Lupe Moreno headed for Sacramento
Lupe Moreno, the conservative Republican candidate for the 34th State Senate District, spoke this evening at the Corona Del Mar Republican Assembly, and she also indicated that she is heading for Sacramento later this week to support a new bill sponsored by State Senator Bill Morrow. Her campaign’s latest press release divulges the details, and is enclosed below:
PRESS RELEASE
Go get ’em, Lupe!
Wouldnt a better campaign strategy be if she stayed quiet? Her talking can only make Daucher seem better. Thats why I have no choice but to vote for the democrat.
Dear O.J. Blog Team: Can you find out if the Santa Ana City Council will be taking a stand on May 1st as well and NOT going to work or thier city council meeting that night to support thier brothers and sisters? Do they expect large numbers of protesters at the meeting if it is held to get more publicity on T.V. ????
Anon-
There are a lot of issues planned for the City Council meeting that monday. My guess is they will be working that day.
You may be new to politics, but politicians like the ones in Santa Ana, rarely stand up on controversial issues. Whatever side of the fence you are on, it is unlikely you will see any of them giving their opinion.
My guess…business as usual for city council members.
Moreno’s a total WAB!! This PAT-LIKE persona will face three DEMOCRATS (Richard Alarcon, Sheila Kuehl y Alan Lowenthal) along with one Repulicano (Dick Ackerman) on the Labour & Industrial Relations Comm … LUPE, whose your papi????
“PAT-LIKE persona”? As in SNL Pat? You are wrong! Lupe is 100% woman!
Thanks Luis for your always straight forward opinions. Can’t those of you in the blogesphere put some presure on the council to cancel the meeting? I was watching cable t.v. the other day and saw Sr. Solario making a big Si Se Puede speech at a Chavez event and I’ve heard him give that rap about picking grapes with his padres in the Central Valley. But are you telling me this son of labor, friend of migrants, lover of all things Chicano will not stay home from a council meeting and miss out on his council paycheck and free T.V. time? I hope you are wrong Luis but I fear you may know our “leaders” only to well. Thanks again for you input.
Anon,
Thank you for those nice words. If anybody would stand up for their beliefs it would be Solorio for the reasons you mention above, but at the same time, he is running for Assembly and probably does not want to upset the conservative democrats, or the non-hispanic vote, by expressing his political views on this issue. Realistically, I would have to agree with his thoughts on not coming out, since he like most politicians are concerned about getting elected, and not on their personal beliefs.
One can hope though!!!
If the City Council members had any core beliefs at all they would go to the meeting on May 1st, do the flag salute, and before voting on anything, state they were leaving in support of the the cause and then walk off. (They would still get thier council cash too but they could offer to give it to some charity.) That would get some publicity, maybe even national.
Luis said of Jose Solorio:
“he is running for Assembly and probably does not want to upset the conservative democrats, or the non-hispanic vote, by expressing his political views on this issue.”
But doesn’t he also have to worry about the core Latino voter since Claudia and Armando are also working hare for thier vote? If he goes to conservative(on issues) in the Primary, there may not be a General election for Jose.
“he is running for Assembly and probably does not want to upset the conservative democrats, or the non-hispanic vote, by expressing his political views on this issue.”
Heh, I know that feeling.

You are probably right as far as trying to get the Latino vote, but I would be no action is better than action, when it comes to voters. There is no excuse if he decides to protest, since it is a direct action. Whereas if he decided to attend the meeting, he could simply state there was an important issue he had to take care of. Either way, you raise valid points, and does put him in a ball of confusion as to what he should do.
Someone should let Lupe know Corona Del Mar isn’t even close to the district.
9:20,
Nice try – but you know darn well that candidates have to chase money as well as votes – and there is plenty of $$ in CDM.
We elected our mayor and city council to represent our interests, not use the dias as a bully pulpit.
If our electeds want to be a part of the protest, they should step down, and declare that they place a higher priority on some meaningless demonstration than the job they were elected to do.

Some would argue those interests you mention are the interests of many of their constituents. Maybe not yours, but certainly a handful of Santa Ana residents. Therefore, it may be in the elected officials best interest to demonstrate his/her support for their constituents.
Amen Brother Luis! The SA council managed to do resolutions and proclamations when they think it might get some union support. I hope the protesters pack that council chambers and each take thier 3 minutes to speak in public comments…make that council sit up there until 3 in the morning listening to you! And you can also fill out a paper to speak on each and every agenda item too..SI SE PUEDE!!!!!!!!!!
At the council’s discretion, they can limit the number of speakers on any topic.
Also, only items under the council’s jurisdiction can be addressed to them during public comments. It is improper to have any discussion of immigration rights at the council meeting, since that is not an item under their jurisdiction.
If the activists intend to hold our city government hostage by interfering with this meeting, I hope the council will shut them down.
Anon said, “It is improper to have any discussion of immigration rights at the council meeting, since that is not an item under their jurisdiction.”
Each city in California chooses in its own way to address the issue of illegal immigration and whether or not to arrest the undocumented. Costa Mesa for example has chosen one extreme and other cities in L.A. have chosen the other extreme. This is very much a topic of current interest to Santa Ana residents and residents are within their rights to address the city council regarding any fears they may have regarding the future of enforcement in Santa Ana or to ask the Council to support a resolution on the issue of support of immigrant rights. While he certainly has his flaws, Mayor Pulido has always gone to the extreme to protect free speech ( He has NEVER had anyone removed from the chambers for any reason) and has always allowed everyone to address the council during public comments and allowed for a variety of topics. While you are correct that the council has the legal right to shut down public comments at any time, it will not happen as long as Mayor Pulido is Mayor of the city. He has had people speak in public comments who are mentally ill and say nothing regarding city issues. He allows them to have their 3 minutes. Better to err on the side of free speech. I can promise you that everyone who goes to the meeting on May 1st and wants to speak will be allowed to do so. If you don
Speaking on every issue on the agenda, this reminds me of a person who did this, not sure if he still does, but went by the name of Will B. King. Interesting guy.
Anon- A few good speakers wouldn’t hurt the city council meeting would it? I kinda miss the days of Ted Moreno and Brett Franklin duking it out. Now the city council meetings are boring!
Will B. King, is a great example Luis. He often wore a dress and almost never spoke about city issues. He was always allowed his 3 minutes. Another example is a woman from Anaheim who sometimes speaks. (not even a S.A. resident) She is obviously mentally ill and rants about Latinos, Jews, and UFO’s and often curses in Spanish. She may be encouraged to stay focused but she is always allowed to speak.
Art,
Please find out how much $ Lupe raised in Corona Del Mar. After all isn’t that why she went there?
7:44,
Lupe did very well. She received several contributions and pledges. She also received a $1,000 check yesterday.
Will B. King-
I seem to recall him causing some sort of ruckus when he tried to attend the OJ Simpson trial in downtown LA.
Whatever happened to him?
