I don’t live in Newport and don’t know Barbara Venezia, but my friends there were enthusiastic about her candidacy. I think it’s sad she was pushed out of the race. Even at the city council level, politics have become so nasty that many good people won’t even consider running.
Ms. Venezia’s greatest “sin,” it appears, is that she’s another Republican who won’t kowtow to the local Party elite.
Good luck to you, Ms. Venezia, in whatever you do in the future. I hope you’ll continue to involve yourself in civic affairs.
