Things remain tight in the race for Ward 6 on the Santa Ana City Council – but Sal Tinajero is starting to pull away from fellow Democrat Jennifer Villasenor, at 41% to 39% of the vote. Republican George Collins continues to be a huge factor in that race with 19% of the vote.
Over in Ward 2, Evangeline Gawronski has lost her lead to Michele Martinez, but not by much. Clearly one of them will win this contest – and both have told me that they will be independent of Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido. Believe me, neither one has any reason to like the guy at this point. The fact that Pulido’s puppet, Tino Rivera, is doing so badly is a huge repudiation of Pulido.
In the Mayoral race, Pulido is firmly in the lead, but Thomas Gordon has more votes than other prominent GOP candidates in the county, such as Jack Wu in Newport Beach, who spent thousands of dollars.
Over in the SAUSD race, it still looks bad for Cecilia Aguinaga, as she is 5% behind Audrey Noji.
In the 34th State Senate District, Lynn Daucher is still leading Lou Correa, at 52.8% to 47.2%. She is up by about 2,500 votes. Will that lead hold? Too early to say…

SAL WINS!!! SAL WINS!!! SAL WINS!!!
Yes, Sal prevails. Now is the time to focus on his SAUSD replacement. We cannot let the mayor dictate this appointment.
A Girl named Michele Martinez knows the race of life never goes according to plan. She urges us on: “When the dream is realized, it is sweeter than you can ever imagine.”
Rosie holds all the cards because if Rob and Audrey can’t get her support she can force a special election by not supporting Rob and Audrey’s person. Could be a 2 to 2 vote.
Sean Mill for School board or for Solorio’s Seat!!!! We need Sean’s passion and energy. How do we make that happen?
How about Kim Gerda, Michele (Morrisey) McDowell, or Victoria Zaragoza to fill Sal Tinajero’s school board seat?
What about Jo Ann Ramirez?
Mike Garcia would be a darn good candidate for school board and I would like to opportunity to vote for the school board replacement and Ward 1 as well.
I hope our elected officials heed the voters message and let us vote on these matters.
Why not Art Pedroza for school board? He has children in S.A. schools and cares about kids.
Art Pedroza is an excellent choice. I don’t believe having children attending SAUSD schools should be a requirement, but I certainly understand it would be most advantageous.
Mike’s children will soon be entering SAUSD schools and I think that’s a consideration.
Biggest losers: The Santa Ana Police and Fire Unions. They now have only two councilmembers on the Santa Ana city council that they endorsed and spent their hundreds of thousands of union dues promoting. Miguel Pulido and David Benavides. Just those two. So if a city council was ever going to stand up to these two bully unions and give libraries and parks their fair share of the city budget, now is the time to do it. These paper lions have been exposed and it’s now clear you don’t need these endorsements to win. Let’s see if these new councilmembers have any back bones or get sucked right into the Ream scheme. Any predicitions from those of us who supported them? Isn’t it ironic that the SEIU didn’t spend a penny this time around and will have more sympathetic council support.
I think Mike Garcia would be Robby Richardson’s boy and he’s also a buddy of Noji. I don’t think Rosie or Palacio will go for that!
I hear Jose’s friend Harvy De La Torre is trying very hard to get appointed to something including school board.
Harvey and Roman should not run or attempt to be appointed.
Just a warning.
How about Armando de la Libertad?
Victoria Zaragoza would be great. She goes to every board meeting and has dedicated her life to helping kids in Santa Ana.
Folks, I am flattered, but I won’t be tossing my hat in the ring for Sal’s seat on the SAUSD board. I have my hands full at work, I just started another graduate certificate program, at UCI’s extension campus, and spending time with my family is a priority. Plus I don’t want anything to compromise my work as a blogger – the Orange Juice has had an impact and will continue to do so, despite our detractors – but that means I have to spend a fair amount of time working on articles.
You have all mentioned some great choices – let’s get behind the best of them and get to work! The incumbents on the SAUSD board need to feel the pressure now. We need change – we need improvement – and we need it now! I am tired of waiting…
Meg Robinson would be an excellent choice to replace Sal Tinajero. She’s a dedicated educator!
Yes, Meg Robinson!!
I believe she lives in Santa Ana too.
She has worked for so long as a dedicated high school teacher here in Santa Ana.
Who is Meg Robinson?
