Total Buzz reported today that the pro-Harkey machine Republicans in Dana Point screwed up. Again. This time “four of the five Dana Point council members signed an unofficial resolution opposing the recall of Mayor Diane Harkey…Recall leader Jim Lacy (photo on left), a lawyer, is among those saying that constituted an illegal, unnoticed meeting and decision by the council.”
Busted! Lacy is absolutely right. You can read his “cure and correct” letter at this link. Lacy is “alleging a violation of the Brown Act and asking, among other things, for a public apology by the council.”
A Total Buzz reader contributed these comments to the post:
Well, here we go again. This smacks of the handiwork of the Mayor and her cohorts once again trying to fool the public, and using the apparent official standing of the city to do so. Why does this mayor NEVER do the right thing in the way she reacts to situations, while continuing to make matters ever worse?
So, if it
The Harkey machine is only making it worse for their ‘queen’ as they keep breaking the law by sending out literature that is against the law. Yet, people overlooked the true reasons for the recall:
Harkey thinks that tax laws, which apply to us, don’t apply to her. She has a history of 14 Federal, State and County Tax Liens.
As a council member, Harkey participated in a council meeting in which she had a conflict of interest and refused to leave.
As a council member, Harkey rewarded a campaign holder by giving him permits for development after she held a fundraiser at his property. By the way, he had his contractor’s license revoked and was a convicted felon.
Harkey bullied property owners in attempting to separate them from their attorney and have them accept her proposed settlement. She acted inappropriately as an agent for a developer instead of representing her constituents.
Harkey told a group of residents that the reason they were not able to obtain construction variances awarded others was because “they didn’t grease the right palm.”
These are only a few reasons why she is being recalled. The rest would take up many more pages.
