Why didn’t the GOP pray to make Larry Craig ex-gay?

It looks like GOP U.S. Senator Larry Craig will be resigning from the U.S. Senate by the end of the month. I was wondering however, don’t conservative Republicans believe that you can “pray the gay away?” Instead of shunning Craig, shouldn’t they all hold hands and pray for him to not have such compulsions?

Instead, “Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky on Wednesday sent Craig a blunt message that he would face excruciating public hearings into his conduct.”

Where did the Republican compassion go?

According to one news report,”Senate Republicans saw Craig as inviting even heavier political damage, especially on the heels of messy ethics cases involving two other Republican senators, David Vitter of Louisiana, who was the client of a dubious escort service, and Ted Stevens of Alaska, who faces a widening inquiry into whether he traded official favors.”

Ah ha! So this was all self serving! That figures.

According to Wikipedia, the ex-gay movement believes in something called reparative therapy.

Again, from Wikipedia, “Reparative therapy (also called conversion therapy and sexual reorientation therapy) refers to methods aimed at changing gay, lesbian, and bisexual people’s sexual orientations to heterosexual, or at eliminating or diminishing same-sex desires and behaviors. Many techniques have been tried, including behavior modification, aversion therapy, psychoanalysis, prayer, and religious counseling.[1] Reparative therapy is closely associated with the “ex-gay” movement, which is more explicitly religious.[2] Ex-gay groups tend to focus primarily on avoiding same-sex sexual activity, and secondarily (or sometimes not at all) on changing the underlying orientation.”

The best known ministry that works to reform gays is Exodus International. According to their website, “Exodus is a nonprofit, interdenominational Christian organization promoting the message of Freedom from homosexuality through the power of Jesus Christ. Since 1976, Exodus has grown to include over 120 local ministries in the USA and Canada. We are also linked with other Exodus world regions outside of North America, totaling over 150 ministries in 17 countries. “

So I ask again, couldn’t the Senate Republicans have asked Jesus to make Craig straight again? Either they DON’T believe that malarkey, or they chose to disregard it in their rush to get rid of Craig. Either way they are a bunch of hypocrites, just like Craig, who always voted against gay rights.
