The Great FISA Cave-In enabling immunity for lawbreaking telecoms and enshrining warrantless eavesdropping has been successfully postponed till after Independence Day so we can savor our last vestiges of liberty. Keith Olbermann last night, evidently embarrassed at being called out as an Obama shill with double standards, laid out a plan for his boy to support the new bill as announced (and hence not flip-flop) while still not letting the telcoms and Bush off the hook for all the illegal spying on US citizens [reminder – that’s since Bush took office, long before 9/11] An unlikely plan, this new one from Olbermann for Obama to save his soul. Meanwhile, the Senators defending our Fourth Amendment can literally be counted on one hand – Chris Dodd, Ron Wyden, our own marvelous B-Box, and Russ Feingold, explaining it all to you in the short video above.

Personal opinions here….
Verne,
You stated:”…Keith Olbermann …. laid out a plan for his boy…”
Why would you give the nutcases on the left or the ACLU such delicious ammo by calling Obama “boy” ??.
Not that I misunderstand your benign and unintentional refernece, you really should have chosen your words more carefully.
As much as I can’t stand the left, or Obama and his loony, cult-like followers who are as stupid as Larry (Reverend Moon the second) Gilbert’s idiot friends, we ‘righties’ must be careful not to embolden the loonie left (OR the loonie right, like Gilbert).
Capice’ ?
*ahem* It’s capish.

Actually, I should have used proper Italian (“capisce” or “capire”)
“capish” with an “sh” is like eating a flour tortilla enchilada…it’s just an American version.
🙂
post 1 where do you think vern gets his stuff from good old far left loon himself keith o .
Tell that to my Napolitano grandfather and my Italian teacher! And hey, what’s wrong with American versions of Italians? I resemble that remark! Tomato/’tomahto’ I guess.

NHP (that’s what we will call you now as you seem to be one of us)
I referred to Obama as Olbermann’s boy, it first popped out of my fingers because it’s sort of OJ speak (Art’s always all to Sean like “Your boy Sal” and Sean is even all like to Art sometimes “Your boy Vern” until I disarmed Sean the other day by calling him a poet which he’s still trying to figure out if I was being sarcastic or not)
And within a second I knew it could sound offensive what with Barack bein’ blackish and all, then I thought, the hell with it, I’m in a bad mood anyway, and also I thought, if Barack were white I would still say “Olbermann’s boy” so why should I treat him differently being black. So there you have it.
But you righties have gotta find a better all-purpose liberal punching bag than the good old ACLU. Don’t you know offensive speech is what they’re there to DEFEND?
“I disarmed Sean the other day by calling him a poet which he’s still trying to figure out if I was being sarcastic or not”
Vern,
There is no need for me to respond to every pollutant that comes out of your mouth. I could care less what you write or say about me. Don’t flatter yourself by thinking I give a damn about anything you say or think.
Whoa – Sean Mill, still an army of one!
I understand the need and or desire by them to listen in on conversations as well as the internet. The very real need for intelligence (Pray*, God, please give us some in govt. somewhere, please!) in making decisions that we, as a nation make. Point of fact here, the degradation of the human intelligence community (sorry, all the oxymoronic terms) has been going on for many years, under both R & D administrations, both R & D Congresses and is in abysmal shape. I believe it is the reason why we are in Iraq to begin with. The blame for which, spreads like water to both sides of the aisles on this one, if one were to be unbiased politically.
Having worked in the aerial reconnaissance community in the 70’s & 80’s, I have first hand knowledge of the possible technologies that can be used, both passive and active when it comes to electronic surveillance, I am very sure that I would be blown away with what can be done now. Eisenhower was very observant in his farewell speech, frighteningly accurate. The real problem is how we will survive long enough to wean ourselves from it, since history is written by those who survive.
I assume that I have been on everyone’s list for many years. Since I have been vocal and vociferous in my rants and send them to too many electeds. I assume no privacy is evident anymore in my life, but refuse to stop being who I am. Like the barking prairie dog, warning the community of danger, I will either save some of my brethren or have my head shot off. In either case, the general community is served. (Hey, no fair cheering for the individual that has me in the crosshairs!)

It relates to this one as well.
*My hedging agnostic side.
Vern,
You’re my hero. Can I be on your team? Pleeeeeease!!!!
Ha! I think NOT, you silly man. 😛
