I think that California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger might be schizophrenic. On the one hand, he talks about cutting waste – in fact he often pontificates about getting rid of stupid state commissions. He has in fact called for the dissolution of the State Board of Guide Dogs for the Blind. (No, the board isn’t populated with Guide Dogs for the Blind, like the famous portrait of a group of dogs playing poker – this Board oversees the guide dog industry).
But hold the presses! Scharzenegger “has appointed his children’s nanny” to that very board, according to the San Diego Tribune. Aye caramba! What a hypocrite! She will now get paid $100 each time the board meets.
Schwarzenegger is proposing a sales tax increase tha will make our state sales tax the highest in the country, but he can’t even get rid of the unnecessary state commissions? And now he is using one of them to pay back one of his employees? Unreal.
There is no question that the blind need guide dogs, but why in the world do we need a state commission to oversee this very tiny industry? That makes no sense to me at all.
Neither the Republicans nor the Democrats in Sacramento have the first clue about how to save our state from fiscal disaster.
This board meets 8 times a year. That’s $800.
What is the budget deficit for the state of California this year?
Your false outrage on this issue is compelling. Why not step over dollars when you can quibble over pennies?

“McLear says she fills a seat that must go to a representative of the public rather than someone with expertise on guide dogs.
The board regulates schools and individuals that train and supply guide dogs in California.”
Looks like the Governer is following the law.
No Vaseline,
But if you aggregate how much ALL of these commissions waste, now you are talking about a lot of money.
Arnold is a big talker – but he does not deliver.
Wow, this is suddenly far more interesting.
