Listen to Councilman Shawn Nelson as he effectively guts the findings of blight necessary to establish the proposed redevelopment expansion. He applies intelligence and common sense to this issue that would, if imposed, negatively effect the future of Fullerton. Undeterred by staff and colleague pressure, he stands on principle instead of prevarication and political expediency.
That would just spark even more corruption and only allow independently wealthy people to run and win.
Tony,
I checked out the video of Shawn Nelson. He’s a very good communicator and I loved how he pulled the nonsense off the table discussions with such grace and clarity. Is he running for Mayor? I know you endorse him regularly for your city’s benefit.
The time, money and needless effort that explanation saved the city of Fullerton is immense. Maybe Nelson can be persuaded to move to Santa Ana and run for mayor here.
Red Vixen,
Shawn recently announced his intention to run for Supervisor in the 4th District (Norby’s termed out). It looks like he will be running against Lewis Daly who will have support from the Red/Blue Klownty blogs.
Unlike Santa Ana, Fullerton does not elect the Mayor, although I think it is time that we should.
What I like the most about Shawn is his ability to know when some consultant/lobbyist/staffer is trying to sell the city a bag of rotten beans, in other words Shawn has common sense. Unfortunately, most often he has little support from the rest of the Council.
Tony,
I am sorry to hear that he’s the odd man out on the council. It does not mean that he is wrong or that he should kowtow to the others. Most leaders suffer peer-less periods before the masses see the light.
John Palacio has the same problem on the Board of Education at SAUSD. He is one of the most connected board members, yet he is constantly dismisssed as an outsider to the board.
My best wishes to Shawn. He does “get it” and he clearly articulates why Fullerton should steer clear of falling for fools data.
I just watched the clip. That’s great stuff. I wish he had been around when I lived in Fullerton!
Red Vixen,
Nelson is “the odd man out on the council”, but, as long as we have one person on council that’s intelligent, responsible, and accountable, it’s a whole lot better than having none 🙂
Tony,
I don’t like the “safety in numbers” type of decision making when it does not make any sense.
There are an awful lot of really dumb people out there that are busy “leading” us citizens.
Shawn looks like a good guy to me.
