Are Local Dems Giving “Chosen One” A Pass After Endorsement Of Uber Conservative Reep?

Who should be our next O.C. Clerk-Recorder?

Talk to this small but vocal faction of local Democrats about the future of the party in central and north Orange County and one name above all others brings a sparkle to their eye and a smile to their face. Despite the fact the demographic makeup of the party in this geographical area is largely Latino the local elected that garners their excitement doesn’t have a Hispanic surname like Tinajero, Alvarez, Benevides or Martinez as one might expect. The “chosen one” for these folks is Anaheim Union High School District Trustee Jordan Brandman.

Many in this group make up the “Janny” faction of the DPOC, thus called this for their covert support for Latino bashing Supervisor Janet Nguyen. It is not shocking that they would pin the party’s hope for the future in Central/North OC on the shoulders of an Anglo politician. History shows us that many within the DPOC have a track record of opposing Latino politicians in the local area. Loretta Sanchez and Lou Correa did not gain any party support until the won their seat. To this day, much, if not all of Loretta and Lou’s success is in spite of the local party.

While we cannot, nor should we, hold the actions of these folks against Mr. Brandman, we should question his decision to endorse uberconservative Republican Chris Norby for Orange County Clerk/Recorder. From what I have seen Mr. Brandman is a bright and articulate young man, not to mention he is a fellow Anteater alumnist. I would think that Mr. Norby’s politics are the polar opposite of Brandman’s, at least I would hope they are. So why endorse him?

Some will argue that Mr. Brandman is just returning the favor to Norby for his endorsement in the school board race last year.  However I cannot reconcile the fact that someone who folks want to represent Democrats in local elected office would offer his support to an uberconservative like Chris Norby.  I am not saying that Brandman should endorse Hieu Nguyen, Norby’s opponent for the seat, but I would have liked to see him remain neutral.

Not surprisingly Brandman’s supporters have remained eerily quiet about his support for Norby.  Within the local blogosphere the silence is deafening.  Folks who routinely bash Norby and his politics have spoken nary a word about the Brandman endorsement.

Where is the self-annointed leader of the liberal blogosphere Chris Prevatt in regards to the subject?  Prevatt regularly uses Chris Norby as cannon fodder for his self-righteous pontifications.  He has painted Norby as horrific figure in local politics, second only to John Moorlach in regards to his disdain.  Yet Prevatt has not uttered a single word about Brandman endorsing Norby.

What about another Brandman supporter and Norby critic Claudio Gallegos?  I realize that his Sunny D blog is all but dead, but perhaps he could breathe a little life into what is left of it by blogging his thoughts on this issue.  When Sunny D was unveiled with much fanfare, Claudio told us all that his blog was going to “expose the machinations behind the Orange Curtain”.  So far all we have gotten is silence from Gallegos in regards to what is clearly machine politics at its worst.

I wish Mr. Brandman much success in the future.  He will no doubt be a rising star in Democratic politics in the coming years.  He may very well likely be a candidate for the 69th Assembly District seat, the district in which i reside, in the coming years, though I will look to support a candidate that I feel is a better representation of the people of our district.

To all those Norby-bashing liberal bloggers like Prevatt and Gallegos all I ask for is a little consistency.  You would be falling all over each other to bash other Democrats who would dare endorse a conservative Reep like Norby and yet you fall silent when your “chosen one” does.  Why am I not surprised?

It is disappointing that Brandman would overlook a moderate Republican like Hugh Nguyen, who is also a minority.

Nguyen has experience that Norby lacks, when it comes to working in the Clerk-Recorder’s office. Sadly Brandman is playing politics by overlooking Nguyen’s qualifications and doing what his GOP masters tell him to.

How sad. I expected big things from Brandman, but this endorsement is an outrage…

    Art,

Mr. Brandman is probably just playing politics, while ignoring his core philosophy, by supporting Norby. It is a shame that he has chosen to do this but so many of the local Dems cow tow to Reeps like Pringle.

It is these self-righteous leaders of the liberal cause in the blogosphere that get me. They paint Norby as the devil and then turn the other way when their boy endorses him.

    It is a Shame says:

So many Democrats feel compelled to cozy up to Republicans to advance their careers. Jordan with Curt Pringle, Chris Norby, and Matt Cunningham. Phil Bacerra with Janet Nguyen and Paul Lucas with Dina Nguyen and Van Tran. Hopefully one day Democrats will chart a course that is more independent.

    Sean H. Mill says:

    Shame,

How has Bacerra advanced his career? I think he is just hoping to get comped to the fundraisers and parties.

“They paint Norby as the devil and then turn the other way when their boy endorses him.”…. sure!

The fact is that we must start electing the WHITE minority in the OC to restore counties credibility.

The days of the affirmative action in politics are over!

This social experiment bankrupt the California.

    Book’em, Danno!

Sean Mill said: “Mr. Brandman is probably just playing politics, while ignoring his core philosophy ..”

How about this Sean? Maybe Jordan is lending his support to a politician who will have the ability to get the best “bang for the buck” for ALL of OC’s residents and voters (reeps & dems) up in Sacto.

Of course the biggest political hack in the blog-o-sphere would not appreciate THAT! Party uber alles, right Sean?

  • 7
    Art Pedroza says:

    junior,

“Bang for the buck?” Are you referring to the rumors about harassment cases at the County involving Norby?

Norby has ZERO experience as a Clerk-Recorder. He has no clue what that department does. He has become a career politician looking for his next paycheck. He is allied with creeps including John Lewis and Miguel Pulido.

Brandman COULD have endorsed a moderate with years of experience in the Clerk-Recorder’s office. Instead he went the hack route. Shameful!

  • 8
    Sean H. Mill says:

Clearly “junior” puts party over substance. The fact that Norby has zero experience for the job matters little to “junior”.

Norby is a conservative Reep and that all that matters to “June bug”.

    Sean H. Mill says:

    Junior,

I almost forgot, welcome back, AGAIN.

See you had to find a new sandbox after Gustavo tired of your antics over at Navel Gazing.

Good thing for you that the OJ is somewhat lax in their regulating of trolls.

Hey Sean, how about if you get Art to edit out all the “trolls”? You know, all the people who read the site, and especially those who disagree with you. Then you wouldn’t have to worry about people disagreeing with you! How disagreeable!

How ’bout it Art? Of course, you’ll lose readers, but that would be a small price to pay for skating by unchallenged, right?

    Trolls unite!

    Shameless says:

Cladio Gallegos wont say a peep becauase his handler Phil becerra is vying for a job at the norby campaign and future office of clerk recorder.
You ask where claudio is on this? And why he hasnt spoken out against it? Well the reason is simple. His favorite Republican Mexican hater Janet Nguyen has endorsed chris norby. And as a result, claudio goes obediently in tow.

    #11,

I tend to approve most anything but even I have a limit. My suggestion to frustrated trolls is to go post at Sunny D, Lib OC or Red Klownty.

  • 13
    anon says:

    Art,

Perhaps you can define “frustrated troll”, because as far as I can tell, when it comes to Sean it’s simply a person who disagrees with him…and will actually continue a debate instead of shutting up after one comment, like he’d apparently prefer.

  • 14
    Sean H. Mill says:

    #13,

I can define it in one word, “junior”.

It has nothing to do with agreeing or disagreeing with me. Some people, like “junior”, feel as if the have a right to come here attack be as nasty as they want. He generally comes here to make some sort of snide or offensive remark directed at one of the OJ bloggers and the debate is secondary.

“Junior’s” antics recently got him banned from Navel Gazing by Gustavo. So it isn’t just me that has grown tired of his trollish behavior.

As Art said there are other blogs in town for the trolls to haunt. Why don’t they then if they find us so awful?

A quick answer to that would be that they want an audience for the troll-like behavior. The OJ’s readership gives them that, those other blogs are dead zones.

You should see the emails “junior” sends out complaining that people are shutting him up on their blogs. I guess he hasn’t learned how to play nice yet and will be forced to go find a new sand box.

    Sean,

Case in point. Today the Liberal OC has 283 visits so far. We have 852. Their not even in the same zip code as us!

  • 16
    anon says:

    Sean,

I appreciate that explanation, and there are certainly blog commenters out there who border on psychotic. But the other day you accused me of being a troll for no other reason, as far as I could tell, than the fact that I actually had the nerve to continue a debate with you. That’s not being a troll…that’s having the nerve to continue a debate with you.

It’s either that or, when the heat is on, suddenly someone is one of the “Usual Suspects”. It all seems like a bit of a pattern to me.

    #13 anon,

We’ve had to moderate a few people at OJ. Stanley F. was actually banned b/c he was so over the top with cursing – he’s explained it lately as a kind of art form, but at the time, no one really knew how to take it. Stanley has since adjusted his posting style to a more understandable and engaging way that appeals to other posting community members,so his comments are allowed- and even encouraged- at OJ right now.

A guy like “junior” is infantile in his postings. He offends people. He bores people. He’s habitually off- topic and substitutes personal attacks in the place of interesting, substantive posting discourse.

He’s made up multiple monikers to make the EXACT SAME ATTACKS OR THE EXACT SAME COMMENTS on a thread, just for the sole purpose of looking like there is a “horde” of posters who agree with his nonsense. Of course, he’s the only one who has that ridiculous point of view, and he is trying to spam our site with the idea that we’ve got a gaggle of complete idiots who are just LIKE him. It’s like an invasion of maggots at a picnic. Ack!

He retards our discussions. He’s worn out his welcome. He’s a lousy guest. He’s the guy who shows up at your party, eats all your food with his fingers right from the tray, drinks down all your booze and barfs on your fine furniture and rugs before you get a chance to show him the door. His claim to fame is being a BIG MESS!

MOST properly functioning folks would be able to get the huge hint and adjust their posting style and ADD to the discussions, rather that just being a nusiance and an irritant. Junior needs to read up on netiquette for the basics.

Trolls just dont get it. Junior=Troll

    Sean H. Mill says:

    Anon,

You weren’t continuing the debate, simply repeating the same thing time and time again.

It was quite like “spam”. Just posting the same stuff one post after the other.

As you are aware we are able to see the ip addresses of the commenters and thus are able to know who is making what comment.

Over the years it is clear debate for you is simply opposing anything said by Art and myself.

If we say the “sky is blue” you will argue that it isn’t. No matter what we say matters and you will keep repeating yourself and describe that as debate.

I see that as boring and quite nonsensical. All that matters to you is getting the last word.

  • 19
    Red Vixen says:

    #10 anon-

What you are asking for is practiced over at other local blogs. Go there and make comments that get deleted based on contrary content.

We don’t mind disagreement. We mind idiots who insist on dumbing down the conversation with their focus on personal attacks, duplicity, spamming, juvenile antics of distraction, jealous fits of rage on the days that OJ is having a lot of traffic with the purpose of disrupting the conversations….. You know that kind of crap.

  • 20
    anon says:

    Sean,

“Over the years it is clear debate for you is simply opposing anything said by Art and myself.”

That is just patently false. I’ve agreed with things you’ve both said in the past, and written as much. And this comment isn’t about getting the last word…it’s about disagreeing completely with an assertion you made and having the chutzpah to address it in a comment. There’s a difference.

  • 21
    Art Pedroza says:

    #20,

I think we have more in common today than we did a few years ago as I have become more progressive on social issues, to say the least.

But it is true that you often take potshots at me and Sean – and that is OK. We expect that. It just gets old at times.

Besides, do you know any other blogger in town who would include himself in a poll regarding who is the biggest hack blogger in Orange County?

Entertainment is one of our goals – and if we can edify folks in the process all the better. The ongoing conversation with our readers is vital to the latter – and sometimes contributes to the former as well.
