Jose Solorio backed GOP candidates but now he wants to help the Democrats

Jose Solorio backed Republican Rob Richardson last year AGAINST Democratic school board candidates!

This is too funny!  Assemblyman Jose Solorio is going to hold a “Campaign School” this Saturday, July 18, to allegedly help Democratic candidates.

But did you know that Solorio, last year, endorsed two Republicans?  That’s right.  He openly supported Republican SAUSD Trustee Rob Richardson for reelection, even though Richardson was running against a plethora of Latino Democrats, including several candidates who were endorsed by the DPOC, Planned Parenthood and ECCO.  Needless to say, Richardson won.

Solorio also openly supported Republican Santa Ana Councilman Carlos Bustamante, whose remarks about a water bra and Sheriff Sandra Hutchens forced him to resign from two state commissions.

Solorio also stabbed local Democratic activist Lynette Verino in the back by endorsing her non-Latino opponent for the Rancho Santiago Community College DIstrict’s Board of Education.

And Solorio broke new ground when he asked Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido to shut down a Vietnamese Art Exhibit because it offended the Republican Trannies.

This guy is now going to teach his fellow Democrats how to campaign? What a shameless bastard!

If after all this you still want to go hear Solorio’s spin, here are the details about his “Campaign School:”

Jose Solorio invites you to attend a candidate training academy and luncheon to help elect more Democrats in Orange County!

The training will focus on writing and implementing a campaign plan (e.g., fundraising and budgeting, targeting, voter contact, message development and delivery).

Here are the details:

Saturday, July 18, 2009

9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

(Includes Luncheon)

Location: Laborer’s Union Hall

1532 E. Chestnut Ave.

Santa Ana, CA

In addition to the candidate, one campaign staff person can attend with each candidate.  You must RSVP to attend the Candidate Training Academy and Luncheon. To RSVP and for more information, please contact Denise Peralta at (714) 673-0005 or via e-mail at Denise@JoseSolorio.com.

why the focus on whether dem or rep? just endorse the best person for god’s sake. even worse is you labeling latino and non latino candidates. who cares?

  • 2
    Mr Freedom says:

More of Pedroza’s racist “solidarity” rant. A Hispanic votes for the best person instead of their race and they are “stabbing in the back”.

And so you get Sotomayor without apology.

    #1 and 2,

It is painfully obvious that neither of you have a damn clue about Santa Ana politics.

Lynette ran for a majority Latino ward of the Rancho Santiago Community College District. Perhaps if Solorio had supported her she might have prevailed over her better-funded opponent, Mark McLaughlin.

Instead, Solorio supported McLaughlin, whose claim to fame is that he lives in Floral Park and is a friend of fellow Mexican-hater Miguel Pulido.

Verino would have looked after the concerns of her fellow residents. McLaughlin will bide his time in this office until he can run for something else.

Who lost in this equation? The people of Santa Ana. We have Solorio to thank for this fiasco.

And by the way “Mr. Freedom,” Verino WAS the best candidate. How sad that you would instantly assume otherwise.

BTW, McLaughlin has supported every single increase that has been on our ballots over the years. Despite those millions of bond dollars we still have the worst school district in the county. And now, thanks to people like McLaughlin, we also have the highest property taxes in the county.

May I suggest a new name for you Mr. Freedom? How about “Mr. Redneck,” or perhaps “Mr. Mexican Hater?”

The most comical part about this post is that it is written by someone who can’t win an election about someone who continues to win….hahahahaha ohhh the irony!

i have been on here saying art is racist the more articals he writes the more it comes out . post 1 you hit the nail on the head something art does not get. YOU VOTE FOR THE BEST PERSON . not because he is a latino . mr freedom take a bow also and you can see what happens like i said before IF YOu DONT AGREE WITH HIM he calls you a redneck or mexican hater . someone said once it is wise to be thought of as a fool then to open your mouth and remove all dought . i think that is how it goes oh well . i think we all get the point .

    Mr Freedom says:

It is up to a little thing called the individual to decide for themselves who “the best person is”. I merely said this Solorio, whatever the situation, had a right to pick whomever he felt was the best. How sad you would try and impose your views on others.

May I suggest a new handle for you?

Race baiter? Race hustler? Race pimp?

  • 7
    Mr Freedom says:

It also appears that the other reason you hate Solorio is he is openly bipartisan, something ALMOST EVERYONE wants, except those who want to see the dirt continue to fly.

What? Afraid you’ll have less to write about if people start working together? For shame!

    Let Freedom Ring says:

I think Jose does what is right and supports the best people. I also think he has a great staff in the Garden Grove office. They always help me and are always friendly. I wish more elected officials supported the best person, Rep or Dem. I’m a Dem but now and then a Republican surprises me and I vote for him/her. I imagine Jose feels much the same way. He is a powerful man and those who cross him do so at their own peril.

    #7,

When lame Dems like Solorio work with equally lame Reeps like Richardson and Bustamante the results are bad for the people.

So Santa Ana is #1 in violent crime and has a multi-million dollar budget deficit and the SAUSD is the worst school district in Orange County.

I would hardly call those laudable results of bipartisanship…

    #9,

Solorio is powerful? Perhaps in his mind. In Sacramento he is considered a laughingstock.

In Santa Ana we know him for what he is – a useless Pulido hack.

    #13,

You Reeps shouldn’t talk about the truth, not after the lies made by John Ensign and Mark Sanford.

And today Ensign announced he is running for reelection…be sure to send him a big check!

    Sean H. Mill says:

Anyone who accuses Art of being racist is way off base. He is anything but.

I am white and he doesn’t hate me. In fact I have never heard him speak disparaging against any one race.

    He does call idiots out.

He is a bigot, he doesn’t like idiots, crooks or pathetic political hacks.

  • 16
    curious says:

#1 nailed it here. Art, this is a ridiculous post. And yes, it is filled with non-sensical racism.

The post is not about Solorio being an idiot. That would be a fair post. This post is exclusively about the fact that Solorio endorsed a Republican over Latino Democrats.

I would label this post as racist…but more than that, I would call it very unintelligent. It rips away at whatever small bit of credibility Pedroza has.

I often enjoy Art’s posts calling other’s out on bigotry or racsim, etc. However, I don’t enjoy a post where his own racism and bigotry are expressed.

It is a beautiful thing in this country when people are more concerned about voting for the best candidate than simply by voting down party or racial lines.

    Not good Pedroza.

  • 17
    Art Pedroza says:

    #16,

Are you saying that Rob Richardson was the best choice for the SAUSD School Board last year? Really? Now I am curious. What are you basing that on? The SAUSD has been a disaster since he was first elected to their board. He is an impediment to real change.

I support the best candidate, period. And if that candidate is a Latino I consider it a bonus – in a city (Santa Ana) that is majority Latino.

Last year I co-endorsed George Collins and Michele Martinez for Mayor of Santa Ana. I also voted for and publicly endorsed Jim Walker for the City Council – against Latino incumbent VInce Sarmiento.

I also endorsed Lorraine Prinsky last year, over Latino incumbent Armando Rios, over at the Coast Community College District.

And guess what? I voted for white guy Cam Mangels last year – against Jose Solorio.

So you see, my record is quite clear. When I can vote for a qualified Latino over a hack like Richardson, you bet I will do so every time. And when I can vote for a good white candidate over a hack Latino, you bet that is what I will do, every time.

post 16 his true colors came out . i belive he is a racist . he puts color/race ahead of the other things that make people good . if candidate a is name smith and has a much better record than candidate b who is name is sanchez take a wild guess wich guy he is picking . look he called mr freedom who express his thoughts on here a mexican hater redneck he does not even know him .the poor guy comes on here and is attacked BY A RACIST =ART P .

  • 19
    Art Pedroza says:

    #18,

Do you have problems comprehending English? I think I was quite clear in my response to #16.

Rob Richardson is a lame hack of a politician. I would vote for a homeless guy over him. But last year we had a few excellent Latino candidates and I voted for them. We also had a plethora of lame Latino candidates, like Mike Gonzalez, Roman Reyna and Cecilia Aguinaga. I did not vote for any of them.

I publicly endorsed a number of non-Latino candidates last year, on this blog, against Latino incumbents. Your selective memory is worrisome. Perhaps you should talk to your doctor about early dementia?

As for “Mr. Freedom,” he has made it clear in his past comments that he, like you, is a racist towards Latinos. I do not tolerate such crap. Scapegoating Latinos is one of the reasons that your GOP is a dying party. I am also offended by the use of the word “freedom” in this commenter’s fake moniker. The only party that values freedom is the Libertarian Party – and we do not scapegoat Latinos. “Mr. Freedom” should change his anon name to reflect his red-faced values. He only wants freedom for his fellow white voters.

  • 20
    Mr Freedom says:

You are quite clear time and again in telling people that either they vote for the “best candidate” – a Latino – or they are haters.

You also have a well documented history against female candidates. You are a misogynist hack.

Your diatribe at describing the “exceptions” to your racist behavior matter not. As a libertarian myself (little l), I can quite clearly say to you “Mr Pedroza you are NO libertarian.”

Some of us have friends who are latino, black, white and asian. It is quite clear to readers you couldnt possibly have that diversity because you dont have any friends!

The rock you crawl under is a dark and cold place for people like you. And the world is better for you to go right back there.

If you really believe that registering as Libertarian makes you Libertarian, then I would task you:

List the top ten items for the Libertarian Party and where you agree.

I’ve looked at it. You cant agree with more than three.

You know it. I know it. Now your readers know it.

This Decline to State Voter is waiting…

    P.S. Thanks Great One

    Art Pedroza says:

    #20,

Really? I just today posted a story endorsing Loretta Sanchez for Governor. I endorsed three Latinas for the SAUSD School Board last year. I co-endorsed Michele Martinez and George Collins for SA Mayor. I have a long history of supporting women for political office.

It is true that I do not support racist Republican women who run for office, such as Mimi Walters.

You say you are a Libertarian but you are also DTS? Perhaps you should get off the fence.

The beauty of the Libertarian Party is that we espouse freedom. We are each free to support what we want. I am fiscally conservative and socially progressive. I find the Libertarian Party to be a good fit for me.

Like the not so great one, you too appear to have problems comprehending English. My response to #16 was very clear and concise. I back the best candidate. I back non Latinos against hacks like Solorio. In fact it is ironic that you are saying I am a racist when the point of this post was to rip Solorio. If I was so raza, wouldn’t I be supporting him by rote?

As I said before, you ought to call yourself “Mr. Redneck,” or how about “Mr. Hater?” That would make more sense.

  • 22
    the great one says:

art your a fake mr freedom nailed it we all know your a racist . all the history of all your post and name calling to people that dont agree with you . you call them haters , racist . rednecks its all a yawn now like the little boy named art who cried wolf . you can write anything on here . we know whats in your heart by the things you write and do .you call me a rep you dont even know me . you have no clue what i like and dont like heres one for you art i am pro choice haaaa yet you call yourself a dts haaaaaaa thats funny all of your issues tilt toward far left views so we know what side your really on . some people come on here and they disagree with views that fine =free country. but they do it in a nice respectful way BUT YOU . YOU ATTACK THEM AS LOWER CLASS PEOPLE , THEY DONT HAVE A CLUE . HAVE NO IDEA . NAME CALLING .look in the mirror pal when it comes to no class .

    Sean H. Mill says:

In the 2006 Santa Ana city council election Art, a Latino, supported Thomas Gordon, George Collins and Evangeline Gawronski, all Anglos.

I, an Anglo, supported Latino candidates. Does that make me a racist?

  • 24
    the great one says:

no sean but you dont post crazy racist things on here like art does . if their is someone who disagrees with you or does not think like you i dont think you go off the deep end calling everyone racist or haters . people have different thoughts and feelings for poster mr freedom he happened to have a different opinion than art what does he do GOES OFF BY CALLING HIM A REDNECK MEXICAN HATER .

  • 25
    Sean H. Mill says:

Again let me reiterate this, Art is not a racist. I have never heard him disparage someone based on race.

I have seen Art welcome people of all races into his home and treat them all with dignity and respect.

If he were so racist as you folks claim, why would he welcome us white folks into his home?

If he hates white’s why would he ask us to sit at his table and eat his food?

He has nothing to gain by it. He is not now, nor has he ever been racist against white people.

To the contrary, when I took issue with Art is when he was alligned with the immigrant bashing and gay bashing crowd.

Art joined in with Santa Ana’s racist cabal in their “lynching” of Nativo Lopez.

Would a Mexican racist who hate white folks do that? I think not.

  • 26
    curious says:

    Art,

If you were attacking the quality of the candidates, their record, etc, that would be more than fair. If you are critical of Solorio supporting Richardson because he’s an idiot, say that and explain it.

Your post simply blasts him for stepping outside of party and racial lines. Reread it. Go after Solorio if you have an issue with his policies, record, etc, not because at times he thinks for himself and goes outside of his own party and race.

The post is about that Richardson is a white Republican…and that Lynnette Verino’s opponent was a non-latino….period.

  • 27
    Sean H. Mill says:

I think the point Art is trying to make is that if Jose Solorio is so concerned about getting Democrats elected, perhaps he should try supporting Democrats running for office instead of Republicans.

The GOP does a good job of cultivating a farm team of candidates by helping them along at the school board and city council levels. When an assembly seat or senate seat opens up these candidates are ready to move up.

The DPOC is not very proactive in this area. It does not help when our local Democrat is supporting Republicans for these lower level seats as Solorio did in the last election.

Solorio’s campaign school focuses on electing Democrats. A good start would be for him to support Democrats.

Anyone who believes that Rob Richardson, a Republican, was the best candidate for the SAUSD board needs their head examined.

Richardson is a longtime board member who has overseen the destruction of the local school system. Any of the candidates, regardless of race would have been a better choice.

Art’s criticism of Solorio’s endorsement of Richardson is well directed and well deserved.
