Does God want us to worship in $11 million megaplexes?
“On Sunday, congregants of Templo Calvario, one of the city’s oldest and largest churches, celebrated the opening of their new sanctuary – a 3,000-seat, $11 million center,” according to the O.C. Register.
The pastor of Templo Calvario, Danny de Leon, said that he is spending $90,000 a month to pay the lease at his new church.
Wow. De Leon is spending over a million dollars a year – just to pay the mortgage!
Templo Calvario claims to be a Christ-centered church.
Really? So how did Jesus feel about riches and poverty?
For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich. (2 Corinthians 8:9)
Christ also said, “Wherever two or more are gathered in my name, there I am.” He didn’t say that we need to build a megaplex to worship him, did he?
Jesus also said, “And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.”
Templo Calvario’s”cavernous new hall boasts two 15-foot-high projection screens, a booming sound system, professionally lighted stage and other amenities.”
What would Jesus do? I am pretty sure he would use that money to help the poor, not to build a multi-million dollar testimony to the egomaniac that is Danny de Leon…
