A year ago the Republicans on the Orange County Fair Board were busted for giving away expensive concert tickets to themselves and to their political cronies. They also used Fair proceeds to engorge themselves with gourmet meals, again at public expense.
Now these same red-faced bastards want to buy the Orange County Fair from the State of California. This must not be allowed to come to pass!
Of course these wealthy Republicans want to own the Fair – they will then use it as they please. They will return to feeding themselves free dinners and giving away thousands of concert tickets to their red-faced pals.
And they will no longer have to pretend to be non-political. Every day will be Sarah Palin day…
“Thursday, 50 fair vendors protested outside of the fairgrounds to oppose the sale,” according to the O.C. Register.
My advice to the vendors is to get together and submit their own bid! Better yet, why don’t the surrounding cities get together and buy the fair and keep it PUBLIC?
Prediction: The Orange County Fairgrounds will ultimately end up in the hands of the Developer Welfare Queens who will privatize the profits and socialize the costs.
Hey, what is wrong with a group of individuals that want to “privatize” a long running public fairground that has always generated revenue? These people have rights too! They should be able to take over a great county resource for their own benefit and profit. Nothing wrong with this plan to create a new country club setting in our county. These good folks will be able, as a non-profit organization, to do as they like, use money to continue the gravey train and cut out jobs to “save money.” Can’t you see the advantage of this privately run fair? Fewer jobs, lower wages, no oversight by public agencies, profit making to be able to buy more “Al’s Brains” and the like, and continued self-serving decisions by this upstanding Board that will privately control your county fair. Sounds like a great deal!!!

Well somebody has to buy it.Perhaps there will be a competing offer.
Aren’t Bugdet cuts and sales of Public property Fun, this is possibly the end of the Fair and Marketplace as we know it. Another piece of history and tradition gone. It is sad.
High bidders get fair. Party affiliations not relevant. When owners get perks its not free and its not corruption, its just owners using their own stuff.
Note to CJ, nonprofits are subject to oversight to maintain their tax-exempt status. On a broader level, public oversight is a joke as a substitute for the invisible hand of free market. But on an even broader level, its nice to have yet another socialist besides anonster to debate with in this forum.
Where is the fair board going to get the money to buy the fair/land whatever?
A new non-profit (non-taxpayer) has No-credit, No-assets, No-nothing, to bid/buy with.
Are these people going to mortgage their homes to come up with the millions necessary to purchase the property from the state? I think not.
The fair board and the administrative bureaucracy have been soaking the state, the vendors, and the public for years, they do not want the free ride to end.
Let anyone buy the property with the strict stipulation: Land will always be utilized exclusively for the benefit of citizens of Orange County, Ca. Any change in the use of the property must be approved by vote of Orange County, Ca. voters. and cannot be used for political or personal monetary gain! If sale is defaulted or illegally used in anyway, property reverts to Orange County citizens!
State of Califoriin will be unable to utilize property for any reason, unless approved by voters.
Buyers must set up a reserve fund to pay for any court costs involving purchased property.
