Is Costa Mesa Councilwoman Katrina Foley running for O.C. Clerk-Recorder?

One of our pajaritos just gave us an interesting tip.  Apparently Costa Mesa Councilwoman Katrina Foley, who this week voted to install an “In God We Trust” sign in her Council Chambers, is considering running for Orange County Clerk-Recorder.

Foley would be the second Democrat in the race for Clerk-Recorder.  Termed out Buena Park Councilman Art Brown, who is a private investigator, is also running.

Foley is an attorney.  That makes her a lot more qualified than Orange Councilman Jon Dumitru, who answers phones for the Orange County Fire Department, at night.  Dumitru is a Republican who endorsed the failed Assembly candidate Linda Ackerman in this week’s 72nd Assembly District Special Election.

Neither Foley nor Dumitru are experienced in the Clerk-Recorder’s office.  The best candidate so far in terms of experience is Hugh Nguyen, who worked for 12 years as the assistant to former Clerk-Recorder Gary Granville. 

Nguyen is a Republican.  So is Renee Ramirez, the assistant to current Clerk-Recorder Tom Daly, who is running for the 4th Supervisorial District.  Ramirez is running to replace her boss.  But Foley will likely quash her dreams by splitting the female vote.

Foley currently has her hands full trying to derail the sale of the Orange County Fairgrounds to a group of unethical, corrupt Republican insiders. 

Foley is quite a talent.  Sadly she cannot move up to the Assembly or the House of Representatives because the legislative districts she lives in are gerrymandered to favor Republican candidates.  Her Mexican-hating fellow Councilman, Allan Mansoor, is the favorite to win the GOP nomination to replace Assemblyman Van Tran in the 68th Assembly District.

We wish Foley well.  It is too bad she cannot move on to a legislative seat.  It would also be fun to watch her run for the Board of Supervisors, but that district also is practically unwinnable for a Democrat like Foley.
