Who killed the Liberal OC Blog?

Liberal OC sucks

The Liberal OC blog is on life support…

What happened to the Liberal OC Blog?  They used to be an OK read, but after their founder, Mike Lawson, left they changed, and not for the better.  Current Lib OC editors Dan Chmielewski and Chris Leah Prevatt have completely wrecked their blog.

But don’t take my word for it, just check out their numbers.  Last November they had over 30,000 visits to their blog, according to Sitemeter.  This month they are at 6,400 visits, with little time left to make up the difference, and Thanksgiving looming on the horizon.

What happened?  Who killed the Liberal OC?

They tried to fix the problem by “acquiring” Claudio Gallegos, the editor of the dead Sunny D blog a few months ago – but their numbers have dropped even more since their acquisition. Today they barely crested 200 visits.

Orange Juice is number one

The Orange Juice blog’s readership has jumped over the past year

For comparison’s sake, the Orange Juice had over 1,200 site visits today.  Last November we had over 41,000 site visits.  This month we are headed for over 46,000 site visits.  Our daily average is over 1,600 site visits, while the Lib OC comes in at just over 350 hits a day.

Folks are taking note.  Blognetnews dropped the Lib OC from their weekly top political blog ranking this week.  We came in number one.  Again.

It is hard to say exactly what killed the Lib OC, but let’s start with their tagline, “Challenging Orange County’s Right-Wing Noise Machine.”  That sounds great, but in reality Dan and Chris often shill for Republicans.  They are pals with Red County editor Matt “Jerbal” Cunningham, even though he was a major backer of the anti-gay marriage initiative, Prop. 8.  And even though he outed the names of victims of molestation.

Dan and Chris are also Jannies – they run cover for Republican Supervisor Janet Nguyen on a regular basis.  They helped her defeat one of their own, Democrat Hoa Van Tran, and have not stopped shilling for her ever since.

Just look at how they went nuts after Trannie Andy Quach had a DUI.  We covered that story too, but the Lib OC went ballistic.  But they have refused to cover a story we broke – that Supervisor Janet Nguyen’s husband’s restaurant, Lee’s Sandwiches in Stanton, has had over 50 County health violations since they opened their doors!

The boys at the Lib OC have also steadfastly refused to cover the fact that Supervisor Nguyen’s chief of staff, Andrew Do, ran for the Garden Grove City Council as a carpetbagger.  And he is a co-owner of the often-cited Lee’s Sandwiches in Stanton.

Now Dan is loyally supporting Anaheim Councilwoman Lorri Galloway, even though she is running for the Board of Supervisors as a carpetbagger, and even though she appointed Talibani Republican Ed Perez, who is anti-gay, to the Anaheim Planning Commission.  And Ed’s wife Sue is running against State Senator Lou Correa.

You might recall that Galloway backed his Republican opponent, Lynn Daucher, a few years ago.  And Dan has admitted to sending a campaign contribution to Galloway this year.

I have a feeling that real Democrats have had enough of the Lib OC.  They have an alternative in the far superior OC Progressive Blog.  And they have us.  Our blog features two of the top liberal voices in Orange County, in Vern Nelson and Duane Roberts, not to mention our lone lady blogger, the inimitable progressive Red Vixen.

What about other readers who are not Democrats?  Why would they want to read the partisan hackery that is the Lib OC?  Apparently few people find them very compelling at all.

To make matters even worse, Dan and Chris recently lost control of two URLs – www.liberalocblog.com and www.theliberalocblog.com.  Their numbers are going to suffer even more now!

It is sad to see the train wreck these two have made of what used to be a fun read back when Lawson was at the helm of the Lib OC.

Interesting history and update, Art. Thanks for the honorable mention. I have appreciated the fact that you have allowed me to make some posts about things I find interesting in regards to current events. I enjoy adding to the discussions.

I USED to read the Liberal OC. But they have devolved into a blog of petty interactions, with very little else taking place. They might have some insider information, but for the most part, they are predictable and boring over there. I don’t really have a reason to click into their site much at all.

Congrats on your own increasing readership, Art. I know that you put a lot of labor and thought into your own endeavors at OJ. Keep it up! ;-)

    #3,

They are indeed. That could explain why the Liberal OC is such a dead blog. Have any of their writers ever amounted to anything? Chris Leah Prevatt does not even live here in the OC. He lives in Long Beach!

Someone pointed out that they keep tabs on Beth Krom’s donations and try to ferret out who the donors are.

That’s pretty creepy and I am surprised that the Krom campaign would allow this kind of intrusive speculation about who private donors are. Is the LibOc associated with the Krom campaign in some way? I don’t know if they have actively supported her of late. Or are they just doing whatever backstabbing they can, as anon #3 suggested?

ANY legitimate campaign would do well to steer clear of weak political opportunists. Those types tend to sell out anyone for even a chance at making a nickle. Weak people cannot be trusted and politics is the ultimate game of confidence in allies.

    STUPID POSTS

Thats what killed them. Instead of engaging political discussion, they post Omama-esqe, prop 8 bBS garnered elsewhere.

Why don’t they use the power of the blog to change things, like pushing Joe Dunn to take on Dirty Garry, Supporting Deb Cook or John Mac Murray.

I have’nt seen a useful commentary from Prevatt since Jesus was a baby. Dan seems to have his heart in the right place but, seems to run a crew of assholes.

The OJB runs a crew of misfits, but seemingly it the best way. They spout off, sometimes wrong, often right but keep nailing on.

As usual I used to many words: TOOLS.

Yeah, I saw that, Vixy, in that post where they named you, Art, Tony & Terry scary bloggers but not me. Dan C’s got a little obsession about figuring out your real identity, since you were rough with one of his pals who came over here. I know how you can be, LOL. I can’t even go to jail without you starting some fracas or other.

SO whenever he thinks he’s guessed your name right, he looks thru all the Krom records to try to catch you up lying about contributing to her. Real important public service, that blog over there. Shame about its numbers.

Lets not overlook the obvious, that last November we had a presidential election, this Nov we have the 72nd up for grabs. I know that I for one spent more time glued to political events a year ago than I do now.

This isn’t surprising. The term “liberal” has been redefined by folks like Rush and that Beck fellow to mean ultra conservative democrats like the Clintons or Obama. If you compare their agenda to that of, oh say, Hubert Humphrey who proposed nationalized single payer health care in the 1930’s, it becomes clear they are not liberals. In fact Teddy Roosevelt proposed both national health care and social security at the 1919 Republican National Convention. Teddy was far more liberal than any democrat in office today. There are very few of us real liberals left in this country.

    Vern Nelson says:

Thom Hartmann likes to point out that Dwight Eisenhower was more liberal in just about every way than Bill Clinton. That’s how far this country has veered to the right over the decades. Just offering a public option in health care actually seems like socialism to some Americans, hard as that is for an educated person to grasp.
