Chairman Janet Nguyen gives carpetbagger Harry Sidhu the kiss of death

Harry Sidhu has received the “kiss of death,” an endorsement by Chairman Janet Nguyen

Funny timing, isn’t it?  Democrat Tom Daly announces he is pulling out of the race for the 4th Supervisorial District, and on the same day Supervisor Janet Nguyen announces she is endorsing carpetbagger Harry Sidhu for that same seat.

Nguyen has a long history of endorsing carpetbaggers.  Her Chief of Staff, Andrew Do, ran for the Garden Grove City Council in 2008, as a carpetbagger.  He won.  But this year Nguyen backed carpetbagger Linda Ackerman, over conservative Chris Norby.  Ackerman lost.  Then Nguyen backed carpetbagger Sue Perez, for the 34th State Senate District seat held by Lou Correa.  Perez pulled out, just like Daly did today.

Nguyen’s fellow Supervisor, Bill Campbell, endorsed Sidhu a few days ago.  Why would these ostensibly Republican Supervisors endorse a shameless carpetbagger when there is a good conservative, Fullerton Councilman Shawn Nelson, in the race as well?

Nguyen and Campbell also backed Ackerman.  How did that work out?

(Anaheim, CA) – Today, Orange County Board of Supervisors Chair Janet Nguyen announced her endorsement of prominent businessman and Anaheim Mayor Pro Tem Harry Sidhu for the open 4th District Supervisor seat. Sidhu’s campaign continues to gain significant momentum after the recent endorsement by Board of Supervisors Vice Chair Bill Campbell.

Board Chair Janet Nguyen is widely considered a rising star in Orange County politics. First elected in a February 2007 special election, she became the youngest supervisor in Orange County history, as well as the first Vietnamese American elected to the Board and the first woman elected to the First District. Janet easily won re-election in 2008 and has since taken over the duties of Chair on the Board of Supervisors. Her announcement of support follows a strong fundraising effort by Harry Sidhu, who finished 2009 with over $210,000 cash on hand – a total that was more than double that of his closest competitors.

Mayor Pro Tem Harry Sidhu was first elected to the Anaheim City Council in 2004 and was overwhelmingly re-elected to a second term in 2008. On the council, he quickly established a reputation as a tough-minded advocate for streamlined, efficient government and as a champion of small business. Harry also ensured the protection of property rights through the successful passage of a City Charter Amendment prohibiting eminent domain abuse. As a local business owner, he employs over 120 people with annual sales of close to $5 million a year.
