Quang X. Pham appears to be serious about running for Congress - his campaign website is up and running. Pham is challenging Democratic incumbent Loretta Sanchez, who has been in the news a lot of late, but not for good reasons. He is also taking on corrupt GOP Assemblyman Van Tran, who is termed out from the state legislature and running for Congress for the first time.
I am still not sure if Pham is running as a Republican or as an independent. But he is a good guy and at this point I rather support him than Sanchez. But if he runs as a Republican I cannot vote for him as that party won’t allow independents and third party members to vote in their primaries.
Sanchez’ latest gaffe is one for the ages. According to the O.C. Weekly, she told a young descendant of President Richard Nixon that she regretted voting for Tricky Dick. That was of course a horrible insult to the young man, who was visiting her office in D.C. But beyond that, the fact is Sanchez wasn’t old enough to vote back when Nixon was running for President. Sanchez appears to be either a liar or a ding dong - or both.
Birds of a feather? Nutty Congressman Dana Rohrabacher and GOP State Assembly candidate Allan Mansoor

The race to replace termed out State Assemblyman Van Tran, in the 69th Assembly District, is heating up. My pajaritos are chirping that Garden Grove City Councilman Andrew Do won’t be running after all. But Orange County Board of Education member Long Pham is running - and he has been known to spend a lot of money on his campaigns.
But the GOP favorite will be Costa Mesa Councilman Allan Mansoor. Predictably, he is already getting ripped by the locals. The award-winning “Bubbling Cauldron” blog posted a very long and comprehensive post about Mansoor in April of this year. Here are a few excerpts:
Mansoor is no slam dunk for the 68th Assembly seat. Even though he’s been the darling of the Orange County Republican Party hierarchy ever since he decided to mount an anti-immigrant campaign in Costa Mesa, the constituency he would represent in the 68th has a much broader ethnic diversity. Congressman Joseph Cao will be partying hard with his well-heeled GOP Viet friends today
Poor Congressman Joseph “Ahn” Cao. He got elected to an overwhelmingly Democratic congressional district in Louisiana. And he is in big trouble. I doubt he will survive reelection. So today he is here in Orange County trying to raise a ton of money by charging $500 to meet with him at a fundraising luncheon in Garden Grove, at the Brodard Chateau, located at 9100 Trask Ave.
Interestingly, Quang Pham appears to have played a large role in putting this together - and he recently announced his interest for running for Congress too, against Democratic Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez and GOP Assemblyman Van Tran, perhaps as an independent.
Afterwards everyone is heading to Beverly Hills for the Vietnamese American Gala. Read more…
Raise your hands if you are being investigated by the House Ethics Committee!
Now that Judy Chu has defeated Gil Cedillo in a heavily Latino congressional district, is Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez in trouble as she is not only facing GOP Assemblyman Van Tran, but now appears to have an ethics problem?
“According to Roll Call, “the House ethics committee is reviewing whether the chamber’s rules were broken when Rep. Linda Sánchez (D-Calif.) put three of Rep. Loretta Sanchez’s (D-Calif.) aides on her own payroll in late 2006 because of a budget shortfall in her sister’s office.” More here (registration required),” according to the L.A. Times.
In related news, a former Sanchez staffer named “Caroline Valdez admitted in federal court Monday that she used Sanchez’s House credit card to buy airline tickets for herself and a family member and get pizza and groceries delivered,” according to the AP. Read more…

Apparently I am not the only one who thinks Assemblyman Van Tran is a corrupt and reprehensible politician. Vietnamese American author Quang Pham, who also used to blog here at the Orange Juice, is considering running for the 47th Congressional District - and he may do so as an Independent if Tran does not drop out of the GOP primary, according to the Total Buzz blog.
Pham is everything that Tran is not. He is a good guy and he is a moderate, while Tran is a Talibani-style Republican who hates Mexicans.
“Anaheim’s Latino population has more than tripled since 1980 and now stands at 186,000, making Orange County’s second-largest city the latest to become majority Latino — at 54.5% — according to new census estimates,” according to the L.A. Times.
No wonder Supervisor Chris Norby’s district is majority Latino - it includes a lot of Anaheim. This could be a boon to La Habra Councilwoman Rose Espinoza if indeed she stays in the race for Norby’s seat.
This is bad news for Republican Assemblyman Van Tran and Republican County Supervisor Janet Nguyen. If they are to prevail against Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez and State Senator Lou Correa, respectively, they need to carry Anaheim. Good luck with that! Read more…
Here’s a question to ponder. Which Jannie or Trannie will run against Assemblyman Jose Solorio next year? Solorio may have bought a free pass by asking Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido to shut down Brian Doan’s Viet art exhibit, but what if Van Tran and Janet Nguyen decide they want a Viet candidate to run with them in the 68th Assembly District?
The OC GOP may well end up with candidates taking on the Democrats in the 68th and the 69th Assembly Districts and the 47th Congressional District. And the candidates might all be Vietnamese. Should make for an interesting political season…
A pajarito reports that he was called today by a polling company that was fishing to see what folks in Santa Ana would think about Supervisor Janet Nguyen running against State Senator Lou Correa.
This is going to happen folks. She won’t be able to help herself. Van Tran will do all the work to get the Vietnamese vote out in his race against Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez, and Janet will get the benefit in her race against Correa. Read more…
“Assemblyman Van Tran, R-Westminster, is practically getting the flowers-and-champagne treatment from Washington politicos who want the popular Vietnamese-American official to challenge Rep. Loretta Sanchez, D-Garden Grove. This story at Politico.com says that Sen. John McCain, House Minority Leader John Boehner and Minority Whip Eric Cantor have all asked Tran to throw his hat in the ring for the 2010 race,” according to Martin Wisckol over at the O.C. Register’s Total Buzz blog.
Are you kidding me? Tran is the best the GOP can do? This guy is as corrupt as the night is long! Have you all forgotten that his wife was indicted for fraud? This loser almost lost to the unknown Democrat Ken Arnold last year! ROFLMAO!
And if you look at Tran’s Assembly District, you will see that it does not overlap Sanchez’ congressional district much at all.
Go ahead Tran - run. it will be high comedy chronicling the extent to which you will attack Mexicans while going after Sanchez. And in the end she will kick your butt just liked she trashed Rosie Avila last year.
There is an interesting article in the L.A. Times about how Vietnamese Americans are suing those who allege that they are communists. These allegations can ruin lives, as the article pointe out.Â
One of the examples given is what happened to KimOanh Nguyen-Lam when she was hired then immediately fired as Superintendent of the Westminster Unified School District.Â
“Some board members later said they did not believe Nguyen-Lam was qualified. But according to court documents, one board member conceded that local community activist Sinh Cuong Cao called board members after the appointment and told them Nguyen-Lam was a communist,” according to the L.A. Times. Read more…
The recall against San Jose Councilwoman Madison Nguyen failed. She “handily won 55-45,” according to the Bolsavik blog. This is a huge blow to Orange County Supervisor Janet Nguyen. Why, you might ask? Because Janet was one of the main instigators behind this recall.
I know this because Janet told me over the past year about her many trips to San Jose, where she attended meetings of those trying to recall Madison - and Janet often spoke at those meetings.
Why did Janet target Madison? For one thing, Madison is affiliated with Janet’s sworn enemies, the Trannies - the followers of Assemblyman Van Tran. Madison is a Democrat, but Tran has several Democrats in his network.
I suspect that Janet also was peeved because Madison backed Trung Nguyen when he ran against Janet for the OC BOS. Read more…
