I wonder which Vietnamese American politician is going to rule the roost in a few months here in Orange County?  Assemblyman Van Tran is in big trouble.  He angered many of his Republican supporters with his ridiculous campaign against Supervisor Janet Nguyen.  She has now beat three of his Trannies: Trung Nguyen, Dina Nguyen and Hoa Van Tran.  And another of his Trannies, San Jose Councilwoman Madison Nguyen, is facing a recall.  Clearly Tran’s empire is crumbling.

But several of his Trannies will be running in November.  Westminster Councilman Andy Quach will likely be running for Mayor of his city again.  And I believe that Truong “Tomahawk” Diep is running for the Westminster City Council.  Trannies Trung Nguyen and Paul Lucas are both running for the Garden Grove City Council.  Democrat Tram Linh Ho, whose father is a longtime Tran supporter, is also running for the Garden Grove City Council.  Read more…

Light Crude settled at $128.50 a barrel today!  Finding a way to make that number closer to $100 bucks will require all our prayers.  Finding a way to make that number closer to $60 dollars….may require some modern day miracles.

Yesterday, So. Cal Edision and in fact all the utilities said that because they were having trouble with people paying their Utility bills….they were going to have to raise “All Energy Prices by up to 30% in the next few months!”.  For those people utilizing Air Conditioning during these hot summer months; that number could soon choke the proverbial horse!  Among all this jolly news the Food Markets and Manufacturers will be raising their prices by up 40 to 50%….due to the huge transportation and manufacturing cost…caused by the Oil Price Spikes! Is Carlos Bustamante D.O.A.?

Can the last surviving Republican on the Santa Ana City Clowncil survive - in a city dominated by Democrats, and in a presidential election that is sure to bring out the city’s Democratic voters in November?

Bad enough that Clowncilman Bustamante had to quit his two state commission, after his embarrassing “water-bra” comments, but now he is facing off against a progressive Latina who lives in Mayor Miguel Pulido’s Floral Park neighborhood.

Remember that Bustamante was trounced in February of 2007, when he ran against Janet Nguyen for the First Supervisorial District.  In that race Democratic candidate Tom Umberg spent thousands of dollars on mail hit pieces that identified Bustamante as a Bush Republican. Read more…

Sen. McCain’s editorial that the NY Times refuses to publish

The Orange Juice wishes to thank Matt Drudge in advance for publishing this NY Times rejected submission in its entirety. We do not engage in censorship on this blog. Let me recommend readers to check out the Drudge Report, a major source of news leads for this conservative writer.

The DRUDGE REPORT presents the McCain editorial in its submitted form:

In January 2007, when General David Petraeus took command in Iraq, he called the situation “hard” but not “hopeless.” Today, 18 months later, violence has fallen by up to 80% to the lowest levels in four years, and Sunni and Shiite terrorists are reeling from a string of defeats. The situation now is full of hope, but considerable hard work remains to consolidate our fragile gains.

Progress has been due primarily to an increase in the number of troops and a change in their strategy. I was an early advocate of the surge at a time when it had few supporters in Washington. Senator Barack Obama was an equally vocal opponent. “I am not persuaded that 20,000 additional troops in Iraq is going to solve the sectarian violence there,” he said on January 10, 2007. “In fact, I think it will do the reverse.”

Now Senator Obama has been forced to acknowledge that “our troops have performed brilliantly in lowering the level of violence.” But he still denies that any political progress has resulted.

Lately I have written about the city of Mission Viejo’s upcoming council election where there are multiple candidates seeking one of the two brass rings up for grabs.
This post will be about our neighboring city of Rancho Santa Margarita (RSM).

For those not familiar with this south County City let me share some background information. “City of Rancho Santa Margarita incorporated on January 1, 2000, and became the 33rd city in the County of Orange.

The City is a general law city and operates under the council-manager form of government. Rancho Santa Margarita is a Contract City.  Police services are provided through contract with the Orange County Sheriff.  Fire Protection services are provided through the Orange County Fire Authority.’

The Contract City of RSM has 47,214 residents (2000 census) who are served by 22 FTE’s. The Contract City of Mission Viejo, with 98,000 residents, currently employs 157 FTE’s along with 111 HFT’s better known as “temp’s.

Another stat of note is that the Mission Viejo Library has more employees, at 23 or 24, than our neighboring city.

What is wrong with the DPOC blog? Don’t they want to win elections? Censoring speech isn’t going to bring them any readers, and certainly not any voters. So what happened this time? I left a comment on the post which gave rise to Art’s recent entry about our jump in the rankings:

How do you make a difference? By being an electronic spin-room for your party? How does that help anyone but Democratic candidates?

How exactly does that violate Dan’s terms of service? He even went as far as to threaten to ban me completely again:

Neil Lonsinger, former Chairman of the Mission Viejo Planning & Transportation Commission, has just met with our City Clerk and joins the growing list of the 2008 City Council candidates. He will challenge incumbent council members Gail Reavis and Frank Ury in the November General election.

Neil, a 25 year resident/retired business owner, has been in the arena before and told me that he is throwing hit hat in the ring at this time for a number of reasons starting with our council’s “lack of money management (that) is absolutely obscene.” He said there are “a multitude of expenditures such as the cost overrun on the Murray Center” adding we have a council majority engaged in “out of control spending.”

During the interview Neil mentioned the Rose Parade float stating “it’s ridiculous–it doesn’t make any sense–it brings no value to the city.”

Hot Topic #1 -

Let’s start with everyone’s favorite, gay marriage. Both my good friend Art and my arch enemy, the hypocritically and suspiciously bigoted Dan C., agree that Prop 8 will fail. But will it? According to the LA Times, the numbers don’t break down quite that simply. And both bloggers fail to recognize that the 1% advantage each side is claiming puts them in a statistical dead heat. Despite this, Dan goes so far as to call the failure of Prop 8 a certainty.

Progressive Latina to take on Carlos Bustamante for Ward 3 on the Santa Ana City Council

There is bad news for Santa Ana Clowncilman Carlos Bustamante.  A fantastic candidate has emerged to face off against him in November for Ward 3 on the Santa Ana City Council.  Her name is Ana Rebecca “Becky” Valencia-Verdin.  She lives in Floral Park, which is even more bad news for Bustamante.  Floral Park is where Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido lives - it is the most affluent neighborhood in Santa Ana.  It offers a natural power base for Valencia-Verdin.

Her website states that she has “an interest in global social justice, national healthcare, increased awareness in issues of public health affecting women, children, and the elderly,” and that she” has been  a key decision-maker and influential latina-woman business leader within numerous wellness organizations and government funded initiatives.”

You have to love the irony of such an accomplished Latina taking on Bustamante, who recently had to resign from two state commissions after he made an outrageous sexist remark at a public meeting, where new Sheriff Sandra Hutchens was appointed.  Bustamante is also the only Republican left on the Santa Ana City Council.
