The O.C. Register reported yesterday that the Bowers Museum just received a $2 million donation. But wait, there’s more:
“In February, the museum opened a $15 million expansion, the Dorothy and Donald Kennedy Wing. The Kennedys contributed $2 million in 2005 toward construction of the new wing, which includes two large galleries, an auditorium, a sculpture garden and expansive event space.
Other recent, major contributions include $1 million from East West Bank and $1 million from John M. Lee. Ed Roski and Norma Kershaw each gave $500,000 toward the expansion.”
Apparently the Bowers is able to raise money hand over fist!
You can see their 2005 tax return at this link. (You will have to first register for free with guidestar.com). Their gross receipts total almost $9 million! They also note over $10 million in gifts and grants.
We will take a closer look at their numbers in our next post…and we will have a look at the Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce tax returns too.
How interesting that they announce the $2,000,000 gift AFTER the council votes to give them the city cash!
The SA City Council can now, without reservation, recind that $2million dollar give away and put that money to better use, like in actually watering the grass in the few parks that it does have. How about fixing Standard Street between Bishop and Edinger. $2million should just about cover that stretch.
