The O.C. Register is reporting that there will be a “candlelight vigil and rally” tonight against the recently announced injunctions “targeting 239 suspected gang members in San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente.”
Here are a few excerpts from the Register’s article:
SJC Against the Gang Injunctions leader Sergio Farias said the rally will take place at 5:30 p.m. at El Camino Real Park, on the corner of Camino Capistrano and La Zanja.
More than 100 people attended a previous protest in November the night before the preliminary injunctions were approved by an Orange County judge. Organizers expect a smaller turnout today than at the other protest, saying they had only a week to prepare.
I find it hard to believe that these gang members are going to change any minds with this protest. But if I was a defense lawyer I might show up and pass some cards out. These lads are bound to get in trouble again…
Any gang cop will tell you that gangs thrive on attention because they are usually the dropouts and losers who crave it. These articles and pictures do nothing more than promote these gangs who are hardly a spit in the ocean compared to Santa Ana, Anaheim, and LA.
The judge who approved the injunction was doing his job as was the DA who brought it before him, but the Register just poured gasoline on the fire after making it public.
Two hundred and thirty nine bad boys are nothing that local cops could not have handled quietly. Now south county has a bunch of little punks that want to make a name for themselves. Have you ever wondered why stories about gangs only say they are “related” and not name the gang? No attention value.
I hope the gang cops in south county can land hard on this laughingly ‘major’ menace quickly because what was a minor problem by comparison will simply grow. Thanks to the Register these little bangers have had their 15 minutes of fame and will try to live up to it.

I don’t think the gang members themselves are expected at the rally. Sergio Farias is a respected member of the SJC community. I believe he’s a high school teacher, though it’s possible my memory of that is wrong.
Most of the people opposed to the injunctions are law-abiding Latinos who are concerned that the injunctions will be used to harass Latino males in general without cause.
I personally don’t believe this kind of harassment is taking place nor will take place, but I also believe that it’s groups like that of Mr. Farias that help insure the injunctions are not abused.
More candles, more vigils. Has not done any good in Santa Ana, will not do any good elsewhere other than to make participants feel good and enhance the sales of candles.
Gila;
Mercifully, Art or another administrator took down the picture that was originally part of this blog article. In that photo I counted at least 3 different gang signs being ‘thrown’ by the kids in the picture, including one girl. I don’t know if that picture was part of the first rally or from somewhere else but it wasn’t taken at a pep rally in school.
Profiling is a nasty word, but sadly and truthfully it exists. If it walks like a duck, etc. This doesn’t mean innocent Latinos will be stopped and harassed for just being Latino. It means if they wear gang attire, throw gang signs, or act in a manner that can be articulated as suspicious behavior, they will be stopped and questioned.
Now if you wish your police to ignore those tell-tale signs they will. Then you will have south Santa Ana instead.

I doubt the photo came from south county, but perhaps Art can clarify that. Generally when we bloggers post a photo it’s whatever we can find with a Google image search. Our budgets for staff photographers aren’t very big. ;^)

My understanding is that the injunction applies to several named individuals only. If Art or Claudio, for example, were to come to SJC and throw gang signs the deputies could do nothing.
A Latino man wrote the following comment on the Register’s site:
This goes out to all, I feel ashame of all the violence, caos, and terror most of these hispanic gangs have caused. Gives me a bad name.
An injuction was placed upon my neighborhood and might I say, it’s working real real good. They can’t associate together, they can’t be standing in a corner with another member to his side. If you break the law, Lockdown. You can’t wear your gang colors. An injuction is one of the best things that can happen to a neighborhood. Cops don’t do much they only drive by the bad neighborhoods one’s or twice a day. That’s pathetic, I bet anyone that If we would have patrol cars parked in our neighborhoods? Can you imaging how things would change. There wouldn’t be as much shootings like we get. Let me see I think we had about over 45 shootings in 07. Fatalities 18, I think I’m close. I’m talking about Santa Ana.
I think this is describes the situation perfectly. As I’ve said elsewhere, I live in a part of San Juan that has no trouble with gangs. The gang injunction doesn’t impact me and my neighbors either positively or negatively. I believe the people who are helped by the injunction are those like the gentleman who made the above comment — a law-abiding Latino who lives in an area with a lot of gangs.
Uhm….
Gang in south OC? Are you kidding? What a bunch of pussies. You want to compete for gang territory why don’t you go to an urban area where you have other gangs to content with you stupid pussies.
Why do we even give these retards any press. Someone should run them down with their SUV and save some oxygen for the rest of us.
You are forgetting one thing folks, the gangs are the only “brave and free” citizens who carry guns as provided by second amendment and are therefore, well regulated militia who will eventually overthrow tis fascistic government.
Just keep violating their constitutional rights by these restraining orders.

Thanks for the laugh@I don’t understand the constitution.com
#4 is exactly correct with his second paragraph and third line. The Sheriff’s Department will not abuse the law/injunction, Supervisors won’t allow it anyway. But, if you want to critize them and tell them not to do their job, then you, in SJC, will suffer.
The city of Mission Viejo has a low crime rate. Yes, because of the citizens there, but also because the deputies in that city do their jobs, strictly, enforcing the laws so that MV will always be a great place to live!
Deputies in SJC also do their best and work hard. Let them do their job, and you in SJC will love to continue living in your city too.

It was gangs in the Boston Tea Party.
It was gangs who wrote the constitution.
It will be gangs who will enforce the constitution.
That is how it was and always will be.

Are you for real? Those ‘gangs’ as you call them, were patriot citizens fighting to free their own country of British tyranny. They didn’t kill each other over a street corner. They didn’t kill each other over importation of illegal drugs. They didn’t steal, rob or kill innocent citizens and children, and they didn’t deface or vandalize other private peoples property.
I don’t know where you went to school, or what year you dropped out, but obviously an education was being wasted on you to begin with.

My schooling did not included brain washing.
Someones freedom fighter is someone else’s terrorist or gang banger.
You must always look at labels from the historical prospective.
For example: The Minute Men in 18th century were considered patriots and today are considered to be racists.
Your bran #11 is filled with the American Fascistic crapola where everything is illegal.
Prior to beginning of 20 century a convicted felon released from the prison was given the gun and horse upon the release so he can constitutionally protect himself.
Today a convicted felon must die on the street defenseless because he cannot carry.
This country turned into a hell where citizens will not fight the government so the only gangs can do the job of being freedom fighters.

Are you guys series?
Where are you getting your education from the taliban? don’t tell me the bin laden is your principal.
What’s next? your going to go to a rival gang and blow yourselves up? bunch of levas.
lol! That
It is actually very simple #13.
However, you must first understand the following:
To enjoy liberty is to exercise unrestricted authority over not only your life, but over those extensions of your life that we have come to regard as property. Because every living being must occupy space and be able to consume external sources of energy in order to continue existing, the property question goes to the very essence of life itself.
The GANGS are self rejuvenating living omni-societies ruled by the basic principle to enjoy liberty by exercise of unrestricted authority over not only your life, but over those extensions of their life that we have come to regard as property (the turf).

You may as well save your time. # 7,10,12 and 14 is the same dude. He has no idea what he is talking about and won’t listen to anyone else. Typical Michigan militia mentality. Put him out in SA with about 5 hardcore gangsters and he’d have to change his pants while screaming about the constitution just before they shot him.
“while screaming about the constitution just before they shot him.”

Why would anyone got shot in SA screaming about the constitution?
Does SA uphold constitutional rights or only the illegal one?
It looks like you condone shoting into everything what moves in SA.
All the laws need to change before a revolt happens. It happened in Los Angeles; believe me when I tell you, it will happen here to. The reason why people are protesting is because a lot of innocent bystanders will be targeted. This is where racial profiling happens. If you’re not a gangbanger but to the eyes of an officers you look like one; guess what you will be treated like one. The officers will sit you down and take all your information down. It is like tag and release… The same shit the Crocodile Hunter does to animals in the wild. That is why they protest. Be sure to know that a couple of the middle upper class childern are starting to look like White Cholos.
