Council candidate launches campaign with BBQ

Many years ago Garden Grove’s Al Snook ran for Mayor for the umpteenth time and he decided to rent a hot dog cart and give out hot dogs at a local park.  Snook at the time was a Republican.  The spirit of Snook lives on today but on a far grander scale in north San Diego, where Vista School Board President Jim Gibson, a conservative Republican, is hosting a BBQ this Sunday as he launches his campaign for the Oceanside City Council.

Here is a bit of background on Gibson, from his campaign website:

Jim was born in Philadelphia, PA and even as a small child his goal and desire was to move to San Diego County where it was warm and palm trees waved in the breeze. In 1980, the Marine Corps helped Jim fulfill that dream and moved him and his wife to Camp Pendleton, CA. During the 80’s Jim served in the Marine Corps on active and reserve duty. 1991 started with orders for Desert Storm activation. Jim participated in a support mode from Camp Pendleton. Jim left the Marine Corps in 1991 with the rank of Captain.

Jim has a Masters Degree in Business Administration. He is the owner of Nova Voice & Data Systems, Inc, a hi-tech, information technology equipment company. Nova installs telephone systems and computer networks in Oceanside and throughout the entire United States.

Jim holds strongly to the belief that the free market provides opportunities to all individuals. He is anti-tax and believes that too much of our income goes to taxes.

Note that Gibson does NOT attack immigrants or rely on the Talibani wing of the GOP for his campaign rhetoric!  Very nice.
