What a joke. First Senator Obama breaks his promise to only accept federal matching funds in the presidential campaign. Now he hob-knobs with the Hollywood elite at Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills where the price of admission to see the man is only $28,500. Who know how much more he charged to have a photo taken with him.
His web site for donors reads: “This campaign is about building a different kind of politics. We don’t take money from lobbyists or political action committees, and we’re going to build a broad base of individual donors to ensure that this campaign answers to no one but the people.”
While it is reported that Obama has 258,000 Internet donors, “less than 30 percent of his contributions came from people who gave less than $200.”
Larry. After Governor Palin was added to the GOP ticket he needs big bucks to challenge John McCain. That’s strange. Especially after boasting of having hundreds of thousands of donors who probably sent him one to twenty dollars each. You know who they are the common folk like you and me.
As I did not attend this gala I am adding the opening comments from the AP.
“BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) – Barack Obama partied with Hollywood celebrities Tuesday night and with the help of Oscar-winning singer and actress Barbra Streisand raised an eye-popping $9 million for his presidential campaign and the Democratic Party.
The night was split into two glitzy events, a reception and dinner costing $28,500 each at the Greystone Mansion, followed by entertainment by Streisand at the nearby Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel. About 250-300 people were expected at the dinner and about 800 at the entertainment, which cost $2,500 a ticket.”
Query. Did any of our Juice readers attend last night?
If so we would surely welcome your thoughts on the event.
*Lorenzo partner,
Your trip to the Caymans must have twisted your back a little too much. You forgot that John McCain is supposed to be the “Maverick”! Who does he hang
out with again…..oh….Budweiser sales reps? These guys have always been known as the “Mavericks” of the industry! Aren’t they selling out to some German Beer Company? Sorry, we got off point. Obama is working the system! The good news it isn’t a bunch of Buddist Monks…like Al Gore did!
Barb has a great voice….always has! You can fault her for a lot of things but
not for your entertainment value. That $2800 a plate is probably a low budget
discount ticket for most of her private concerts!
The good news is that when we have Obama as President….we will have the best music ever in the Whitehouse! Our apologies to Neil Diamond aside!
*Correction:

*Lorenzo partner,
Your trip to the Caymans must have twisted something! Hey you forget that your buddy McCain…is supposed to be a “Maverick”…he gets all his cash from
Budwieser Sales Reps. They have always been known for being “Mavericks”!
Isn’t Bud selling out to a German Beer Company? But back on point:
Obama is strictly using the system as he finds it. Barbra probably could get a lot more that $2800 a plate for any singing performance! The good news is that the music will be great when he wins the Whitehouse!
Winships it was $28,500 to go to the dinner not $2,800.
It was $2,500 to go to the concert.
I am going to see Neil Diamond on Oct 1st and I could not be more excited.
Hello Hollywood Bowl.
I took a trip to some islands this summer, too, and when I returned with a rested mind and renewed perspective, I sent in my first check to Obama’s campaign. Later that month, after McCain tried to bamboozle us with that fraud and hide-out specialist, Govenor Palin, I sent in my second check to his campaign.
I have never sent money to a presidential campaign before, so you can count me in as one of the new contributors. There are a ton of us who want to throw the bums out. Some wallets are fatter than others and those folks are probably as happy to give those large amounts as I was to give what I could afford.
LOL, Larry. I hear they are absolutely giving away seats to see McCain. He doesnt need the cash anyways, he’s been bought and sold by so many special interests, money is the least of his worries.
Hey, here is YOUR GUY, Senator McCain on the economy:
On Monday morning as Lehman Brothers was going into bankruptcy McCain stated that “he believed the fundamentals of the economy were “strong.”
Hours later he backpedaled, explaining that he had meant that American workers, whom he described as the backbone of the economy, were productive and resilient.
On Tuesday he called the economic situation ““a total crisis” and denounced “greed” on Wall Street and in Washington.”
Last January McCain argued that “Americans were better off than they were eight years ago; by this summer he had released an advertisement that said “we’re worse off than we were four years ago.”
His first big speech on the mortgage crisis warned against excessive government intervention; a month later he released his plan for government action to help people keep their homes.
And according to Phil Gramm, McCain’s economic adviser, the United States was in a “mental recession” and had become “a nation of whiners.””

Red Vixen.
Throw who out?
On Jan 20th we will have a new president.
With the Dem’s controlling both houses of Congress perhaps we should remove our blinders and recognize that we have three branches of U.S. government—legislative, judicial, and executive that carry out governmental power and functions.
While ‘W” has veto powers, he can still be overturned. Furthermore, how many Bills has he actually opposed?
What ever became of Nancy Pelosi’s first 100 days? Check it out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_zZKEtoPpM
You are correct. We do need to throw the bums out. Perhaps we should begin with the Speaker herself!!
HANDS…
touching hands….
reaching out….
touching me….
touching you…
Brother Vern.
Now that is cool
Bro Vern. After further review.
Be careful where you place your “reaching out” and “touching hands.”
We surely don’t have Juice indemnification insurance to bail you out if you get caught “touching” someone you shouldn’t be touching.
Larry,
Would you care to explain how doing fundraising would prevent Obama, or any other person who is so inclined with the right policy ideas, from representing “ordinary Americans”?
Perhaps your next story can be about the millions of ordinary Americans who have contributed to Obama’s campaign through small, online donations.
“McCain doesnt need the cash anyways, he’s been bought and sold by so many special interests”
I do hope your kidding.
BO took at least $126,349 from Freddie and Fannie Mac compared to JM’s $21,550 during the same period of time.
Tell me who the corporate whore is………..
Red.
John McCain asked me to personally thank you for your donation that is part of the $83.8 million in FEC federal funds he promised to accept in the presidential campaign. That is the only direct funds available for his campaign.
From the Net.: New York Sen. Hillary Clinton’s campaign accuses Illinois Sen. Barack Obama of breaking a promise to use public funds in the general election race if he wins the nomination.
Clinton’s communications director, Howard Wolfson, says, “[Obama] pledged earlier in this campaign to opt into the public financing system, if he were the nominee, and then he decided apparently not to. That is not a promise that he kept.”
anon.
Sen. Obama is trying to buy the election. If not why did he reject the FEC offer?
“Ordinary people?” Like those he spoke of when in San Francisco?
Obama’s remarks at a San Francisco fundraiser. Included “an attempt to explain the resentment in small-town Pennsylvania that won’t be appreciated by some of the people whose votes Obama’s seeking:
You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.
And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.
That’s a pretty broad list of things to explain with job loss.”
Yes. Sen Obama feels our pain and wants to represent ALL AMERICANS.
Hey Red. I knew we would eventually agree. We should throw the bums out.
Perhaps we can begin with Speaker Nancy Pelosi. In case you forget her first 100 days in office let me share the following two minute video clip:
http://technorati.com/videos/youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dq_zZKEtoPpM
PS: The Dem’s has been the majority party in Congress with an overwhelming approval rating of nine percent. As such whom should we throw out of office?
And while “W” has veto power how many times has he used it?
We are concerned with a 50 percent drop out rate in LAUSD yet gladly accept a nine percent approval rating by those who make our laws? What’s wrong with this picture? “No Child Left Behind” should be be changed to No Democratic Incumbent Left in Congress.
Sen. Obama is trying to buy the election.
I’m very proud of Obama not pre-emptively unilaterally castrating himself on principle as previous Dems probably would have. He enjoys a huge fundraising advantage over “Raisin McCain”, even during the nation’s Palin-binge, which seems to already be settling into a queasy nauesous hangover.
John McCain asked me to personally thank you for your donation that is part of the $83.8 million in FEC federal funds he promised to accept in the presidential campaign. That is the only direct funds available for his campaign.
Larry, it was my pleasure to help John out. God knows he’s hugely unpopular with his own party and did what he could to secure some funds…. any funds…. to run his campaign. He’s a war hero and I think he’s doing his best.
As far as the Hillary comment, if it is not TOO much trouble, could you provide a link for that information? Republicans are notorious for “getting things wrong/lying” so, I’d like to see if those talking heads you were listening to have it right this time.
The Dem’s has been the majority party in Congress with an overwhelming approval rating of nine percent. As such whom should we throw out of office?
And while “W” has veto power how many times has he used it?
Actually, “Democrats took control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate for the first time in a dozen years in the 2006 midterm elections” http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2006/ so they are relative newcomers to the majority. Again, do you have a link for the 9% number? I know they are not puopular, but that seems a bit… low.
And Larry? I completely agree about Pelosi. You know what did it for me? After voting for every single democrat that I could, just to hammer home to the GOP how disgusted I have been by their antics, Nancy takes her seat as the MAJORITY speaker and one of the first orders of business for her was: Impeachment of GWBush is OFF the table. So, yes, I agree, she needs to go. I think Cindy Sheehan is taking her on this election cycle.
But first, let’s clean out the corrupt and cowardly Republicans (whats left of them – the indictment list is long for those jokers) and when they are flushed out, let’s set our sites on the democrats that have been just as disgraceful, but in lower numbers. I remember how the democrat party locked out all those Iraq vets who returned home and wanted to run for office and were essentially locked out of the process by political insiders.
It is up to all of us to vote for the best person/s and at the same time, keep both political parties off balance and churned every time they forget to serve us, the voters.
It’s those darn rich people who made more than 4.2 million last year under that awful president bush and his horrid economic policies and during the new great depression that suffered most while running for president…ie….barack obama
“McCain doesnt need the cash anyways, he’s been bought and sold by so many special interests”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherry_picking
Cherry picking is the act of pointing at individual cases or data that seem to confirm a particular position, while ignoring a significant portion of related cases or data that may contradict that position.
The term is based on the perceived process of harvesting fruit, such as cherries. The picker would be expected to only select the ripest and healthiest fruits. An observer who only sees the selected fruit may thus wrongly conclude that most, or even all, of the fruit is in such good condition.
Cherry picking can be found in many logical fallacies. For example, the “fallacy of anecdotal evidence” tends to overlook large amounts of data in favor of that known personally, while a false dichotomy picks only two options when more are available.
I’d be more than happy to do a side by side comparision of BO & JM and the monies they took from Fannie and Freddie, or Big Pharm (BO has taken $$$ to JM’s $$) Big Oil, Big Banking….

Go Thomas!
There isn’t a single person who has commented here who has presented a convincing case that a candidate can’t do fundraising AND have policies that will benefit the overwhelming majority of Americans, especially middle and lower-class Americans.
About all you’ve done is make a case for campaign finance reform.
That is one long-ass list of congresscritters, Thomas. I am sympathetic to what a long mouse-pull that must have entailed to copy and paste it – unless you were able to use control – A.
Please tell me what the three sums mean on each line? And also, if you don’t mind – what it proves?
Obama is quickly learning the reality of what it takes to play ball at his new level. It doesn’t come cheap. Hopefully that’s all this is.
SMS
The three sums on each line are grand total-total from PACS-total from individuals
What it proves?
You all claim that JM has been “bought and sold by so many special interests”
BO’s website states “We don’t take money from lobbyists or political action committees”
Looks like BO lied and HAS taken the second largest amount of money from Freddie & Fannie.
BO has taken more than 5 times as much PAC money and special interest money than JM.
Enough of the silly season………lets get down to issues.
Big Pharma, Big Oil, and Big Banking, right? Are the contributions from individuals that work in these areas or are the contributions from big companies in those industries? I agree that this was an impressive cut and paste job. I dont see what it proves either except that McCain raised more money than Biden from the same people.
What I dont understand is if McCain is so … clean …. then why are so many lobbyists working for him? I heard that 134 were involved in his campaign.
Vern says: “I’m very proud of Obama not pre-emptively unilaterally castrating himself …”
No worries there Vern, the Reverend Jessie Jackson will be happy to handle that little chore for Barry O.

What we should all be asking is, what we could do as a nation with this obscene amount of money other than wasting on stupid commercials that are mostly lies and BS.
Thomas,
You’ve misquoted Obama’s website. It actually says;
“Unlike other candidates Obama’s campaign refuses to accept contributions from Washington lobbyists and political action committees.”
See that word “campaign”? That means his “campaign” doesn’t accept contributions from PACs and lobbyists. Has his own political leadership PAC accepted money from Freddie and Fannie…yes, a quite small amount, as shown in the link you provided. That’s not the same thing as the “campaign” accepting PAC money.
anon.
Your splitting hairs.
Let’s face it. It cost big bucks to run an effective campaign for president.
How much do you think it costs for a 30 second TV spot on the Super Bowl?
I’ll save you you the trouble of looking it up. A 30 second spot on XLII cost $2.7 million.
While the Super Bowl is viewed by millions of potential customers, it is the cost of doing business for those who run said ads such as Coke or Pepsi.
PAC or shmack who cares. Fundraising is still a necessary and major facet of the overall campaign effort.
Have you noticed that many firms or groups donate to both camps? That’s like going to the track and placing a bet on every horse in the race.
“What we should all be asking is, what we could do as a nation with this obscene amount of money other than wasting on stupid commercials that are mostly lies and BS.”
*Carl, oh dude…you saw the LBJ Mushroom ad…. How about Nixon and his
committment to honesty in Government!? This stuff goes way back doesn’t
it?
rw
Thomas –
And how long has Obama been in the Senate to amass so much Wall Street money? Two years? That’s why it’s difficult for me to place any faith in Obama to police Wall Street.
