How ridiculous. You would think that local Latino elected officials in Orange County would get behind Lynette Verino’s campaign for the Rancho Santiago Community College District’s Board of Education. But have a look at the flier above – which is being distributed by Mark McLoughlin, who is opposing Verino. McLoughlin has picked up the support of Assemblyman Jose Solorio, State Senator Lou Correa, Mayor Miguel Pulido and Santa Ana Council Members David Benavides, Claudia Alvarez, Carlos Bustamante (who is a Republican), Sal Tinajero and Vincent Sarmiento.
Solorio also included McLoughlin in his “Team Solorio” mailer that was delivered to Santa Ana mailboxes this week (see graphic above). Note that Solorio is supporting all the non-Latino candidates for the RSCCD Board of Education – the only candidate he is NOT supporting is Verino. Well, at least he is consistent.
Remember this folks when these politicians tell you that they support Latinos. No they don’t! Certainly not in this case…
I have endorsed Verino. You may read a post I wrote about her at this link. You may review her campaign website at this link. Verino also enjoys the support of a lot of local elected officials. You may read her complete list of endorsers at this link. Her backers include Correa – who for whatever reason chose to endorse both Verino and McLoughlin. Not cool. You may send email to Verino at this link.
Why do Latino leaders have to support only brown candidates?
I thought that what matters is a persons character and not the color of their skin.
Is this a Mecha site?
anon,
Verino is a great candidate – check out her website. It is terribly disappointing to Latinos to see fine candidates like Verino overlooked in favor of guys like McLoughlin. His biggest claims to fame are helping to recall Nativo Lopez and helping to raise our taxes this summer as he co-chaired the Measure G campaign, which was a property tax increase for the SAUSD. John Palacio, who is an SAUSD Trustee said Measure G was not even necessary!
Vote for Verino. And shame on the Latino politicos who opted to go with McLoughlin instead of Verino!
Seriously? Pulling the brown card already? Where is the logic or rational thought process of picking someone just for the color of their skin and not their qualifications? You make yourself no better than a white man voting only for white candidates.
Have some class and show some real leadership.
You did not address my point Art.
Too embarrassed?
anon, 2:20,
And YOU did not address MY point. If both Verino and McLoughlin are “qualified” why not support her? Is she not white enough for you?
Besides, McLoughlin worked to raise our taxes. I would never support him on those grounds, for any office.
I am not arguing the qualifications of either candidate. You seem to be arguing that the Latino elected officials should have supported Verino solely because she is a Latina.
Solorio has criteria other than color or race to determine which candidates he will support.
Art:
Did Ms. Verino seek the endorsement of these Latino elected officials or any others?
anon (4:51),
I wonder what that criteria is? Solorio also used Democrat money to support a Republican for the SAUSD (Rob Richardson).
I wonder if McLouglin paid for his endorsements with campaign contributions?
Mark McLaughlin is Pulido & Richardson’s puppet. That’s why I will not vote for him. Why do we want four more years of Pulido on the Rancho Board? We’ve been saddled with Pulido’s puppets on SAUSD for nearly two decades and more than 75% of the schools are failing to meet state academic standards.
Pulido owes McLaughlin’s wife for her past & current patronage. It’s time to break the cronyism that permeates Santa Ana politics.
I’m 100% behind Lynette Verino. It’s time for CHANGE. If it happens to be a brown woman – rock on.
