Honorable president-elect Obama. As you prepare to tackle the national recession we are pleased to announce that the city of Mission Viejo does not require any Federal TARP infrastructure funding for cities that may become available as part of the proposed recovery plan.
It is ironic that you have selected Senior Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest to deliver the Invocation at your Jan 20th inauguration. Saddleback Church is less than 10 miles from our City Hall. In fact one of our activists brought Pastor Warren’s best seller “The Purpose Driven Life” to a city council meeting and read those four powerful opening words “it’s not about you.” While we have recently indulged ourselves we did not understand what he meant but we gave him his three minutes at the podium. Perhaps it is due to our majority vote doubling our monthly stipend or voting to give ourselves the option for lifetime health care when some of our resident’s are losing their jobs and their homes. On Jan 5th we will be voting to give our employees a raise in salary while other public agencies are cutting back. Some residents in Mission Viejo feel it was our decision to spend over $300,000 of taxpayer money for a float in the 2009 Tournament of Roses parade next week. We surely hope that your family will take 30 seconds to view our float named “Making a Splash.” Based on our extravagance and cost overruns in all of our city projects we expect to once again win another award for our parade entry.
Although a suggestion to seek some of the TARP funds was proposed at our recent Strategic Planning Workshop, we are of the opinion that based on our recent actions it would look bad should you bless us with said funds. There surely are more needy cities in the honorable Gary Miller’s 42nd Congressional District whose city council members and city staff take their fiduciary responsibilities more seriously than us as demonstrated by our actions.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to your entire family.
Mission Viejo
Some cities will ask for Troubled Assets Relief Program funds while Mission Viejo needs Troubled Asses Relief. Nearly all of Mission Viejo’s troubles have been caused by the asses running/ruining the city.
