Are Bates and Nguyen the best choice to chair the O.C. Board of Supervisors?

Orange County Supervisor Pat Bates has been elected by her peers to serve as the new Chair of that body, and her colleague Janet Nguyen will be the Vice Chair, according to the Red County blog.

The past year has been the worst one since the O.C. bankruptcy for our Supervisors.  They have recently announced layoffs, while spending thousands on expensive furniture and a questionable remodel of their lobby.

And Supervisor John Moorlach has offered his support for Tony Rackauckas’ plan to raise fees to pay for a real-estate fraud program, according to the Orange Punch blog. Moorlach claims that the fee increase is necessary because crime is sure to go up as our economy sours, but crime is going down, according to FBI statistics (except for Santa Ana of course, where rapes and murders went up in the first half of 2008).

I expect Bates and Nguyen to support T-Rack’s request for more of our moolah.

It is hard to believe that Bates and Nguyen are going to lead our Board of Supervisors well in this time of financial crisis.  Nguyen in particular is new to the Board and so far her tenure has been marked by one stupid decision after another.

According to Red County, Supervisor Bill Campbell deferred to Nguyen.  He would not be much better.  What a bunch of clowns!
