Matt/Jubal Cunningham blew it when he wrote this back in December of last year, “Tim Neely, the county’s director of planning, is retiring and word is Santa Ana Councilman Carlos Bustamante is the heir apparent to succeed him. Carlos is currently the director of administration for the OC Public Works Department. Congrats to Carlos on the likely promotion.”
I got word today from one of our pajaritos that the promotion did NOT go to Bustamante after all. Instead, Administrative Services Division Director Jess Carbajal will be replacing Neely.
I don’t know Carbajal, but he has to be a better choice than the embarrassing Bustamante. Congratulations to Mr. Carbajal.
Art you are well-informed. Apparently this Carbajal fellow has professional planning and public works background in the cities of Baldwin Park and Bell.
I’m wondering who told Jubal that Carlos was the “heir apparent.”
Let me guess…Carlos?
Eye on OC,
Probably, but who knows who Jubal was shilling for that time?
Carbajal has city planning and City Manager experience, and should fit into that job nicely.
I hope this new guy doesnt have any ties to Count Chocula. We don’t need that guy lurking the halls of the County spreading his disease.
Eye on OC, I sincerely hope you are wrong. That would be incredibly unprofessional, and ultimately, self-defeating.
And yet Jubal posted this. Why? Because it was newsworthy? When Art referenced the post I wondered why the appointment of a mid-level County bureaucrat was news. If it is can we expect a post updating the situation? I wonder.
David:
I wrote a post about several actual or potential senior staff moves at the county — including the possibility of Carlos getting promoted.
Why? Because readers of local political blogs like OC Blog like reading that kind of inside stuff. It’s a blog, not a newspaper — the threshold of “newsworthiness” is different.
As for my source, that is nobody’s business. But “Eye on OC” and Art are both wrong in their guess. Gee, what a surprise.
I’m sure Count Chocula aka the Moocher will be sucking up to Mr. Carbajal in no time. I hear he’s been sucking up to Tom Daly hoping to get in on Daly’s campaign for OC Supervisor.
Too bad for Bustamante and all the sexual harrassment complaints filed at the County against him. He should stop wondering why he doesn’t get promoted.
Matt/Jubal,
No, you wrote a post where you openly kissed Busty’s butt and shilled for him. And now you look stupid because your boy was passed over for the promotion. Will you ever be honest with us or yourself?
No, you wrote a post where you openly kissed Busty’s butt and shilled for him.
Whatever you want to tell yourself, Art.
Will you ever be honest with us or yourself?
A question more appropriate for yourself.
Matt,
How are you liking the new guy, Mike Steele as the head of RNC?
Remember the singer Lisa Lisa? If so, then you have to remember Jessie Jess! Well take a close look at his picture… its Jess Carbajal.
Hi Art, a bit off-topic but this is the only way I know to contact you. Wouldn’t it be nice to schedule another “screw-driver” type get-together such as we did at the Cosby last year? We’ve a new group of bloggers and I, and I’m sure other OJB fans, would enjoy meeting them.
You offered back at the last screw-driver to speak to my students here regarding your work in environmental hazards, but I really have a over-filled plate. However, our main environmental science instructor here is very interested in having a speaker in your expertise. She’s a local SA resident (less then a half mile from your house) and would enjoy meeting you to discuss this.
Well, RV, since he’s only been chairman for about a week, I can’t really give a performance rating.
I can say he was my second choice for the job,, close behind Ken Blackwell.
Well, all is not lost for Busty. Apparently, Bryan Speegle the current OC Public Works Director and a genuine fossil, is retiring this year. Guess who is being tapped to replace him as the Director of the county’s largest department besides the Sheriff’s Department? Yup, our very own Busty. Political connections sure do have their privledges!
