Oh my. I knew that Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman had issues, but now I am completely aghast, having read an interview with her in the L.A. Times. She contradicts herself at every turn and appears to be borderline incoherent. Here are a few lowlights:
- She says she does not want to raise taxes on anyone, but her hero is the tax-raiser Pete Wilson. And Whitman wants to pay higher salaries for math and science teachers, while cutting corporate income taxes further. How is she going to do that and deliver a balanced budget?
- She says she would not have supported Prop. 187 but then she says that schools, hospitals and law enforcement agencies should have to report undocumented immigrants to federal authorities.
- She calls herself a lifelong Republican, but she did not register with the GOP until 2007. She was a decline to state voter originally.
- Whitman called herself a champion of the environment, but then she said she didn’t like California’s efforts against global warming. I agree that Governor Schwarzenegger’s anti global warming measures have been hurtful to California businesses, but why would Whitman call herself a “champion of the environment” in the first place when she clearly isn’t?
- She said she supported the recall of former Governor Gray Davis – but she did not vote in that election.
- She says that it is about time for a governor who has created jobs – but she also favors doubling the amount of furloughs of state employees that Governor Schwarzenegger has proposed.
What a mess! Honestly this lady is NOT ready for prime time…
I would of preferred her to start as State Treasurer first then run for governor.
Nice post, Pedroza-Man. Her words speak for themselves, hanging her. You called it – power hungry, overrich, public policy confused. Get it straight now – taxes are going up. I would prefer they go up on corporations, frankly.
OC Martiniman,
Thanks! She is a scary prospect…
Meg Whitman is a superstar, don’t judge her to harshly but one 30 minute speech. Take a look at her track record at eBay, she made it through the mire, while hundreds of others went away
