In the first of what will be many sacrificial lambs of this doomed administration, the Obama White House today spelled out their immigration policy. To be brief…
Everyone who wants to be legal has to go to a government office, admit they’re illegal, pay what will be a large or even huge fine by the time it gets through Congress, and wait for the government bureaucracy to get back to them. In essence, he doesn’t intend for anything to change, and the focus instead will go towards penalizing those who hire illegals and border enforcement. Because if illegals wanted to do all that I just mentioned, they could do it today. And they don’t.
Democratic legislative aides said that opening a full-fledged debate this year on immigration, particularly with health care as a looming priority, could weigh down the president’s domestic agenda.

In no uncertain terms, the Obama Administration has made it clear that so called Amnesty is NO BUENO! and would kill whatever capital he has left. Go ahead B. Kill whats left of the left. Wait, take up the gun issue too. That will really help.
In broad outlines, officials said, the Obama administration favors legislation that would bring illegal immigrants into the legal system by recognizing that they violated the law, and imposing fines and other penalties to fit the offense. The legislation would seek to prevent future illegal immigration by strengthening border enforcement and cracking down on employers who hire illegal immigrants, while creating a national system for verifying the legal immigration status of new workers.
It is great to have them admit they are lawbreakers, pay a huge fine, and go back to the end of the line.
JUST THINK OF THE PEOPLE WHO OBEY THE LAW . THEY GET JACKED . LETS REWARD THE LAW BREAKERS . WHAT A TOOL NOBAMA . ANDI WONT FORGET THE OTHER TWO STOOGES PELOSI , REED ,
#2,
The one’s obeying the law are those being brought in by employers to take jobs maybe like yours – if the haven’t been outsourced already. Quit worrying about strawberry pickers & hamburger flippers – there’s no line for them or entry law to follow so their only chance is to jump the border.
Obama is doing the proper thing. He is stating what prior administrations have avoided saying.
The illegal issue is complex and the product of two sources. Employers – the market and workers- the supply.
The Predident is placing proper responsibility on the employer. In the past the attention was entirely on the supply.
This strategy will now force law makers to address the issue because the employers will have a cow on beign held accountable and they will force law makers to take action on the matter.
Obama is a brilliant President.
#1 and #2 are just playing partisan politics.
POST 3 A LAW IS A LAW . OH LETS NOT OBEY THOSE BECAUSE THEY ARE PICKERS OR OTHER THINGS . HECK I DONT FEEL LIKE STOPPING AT THAT RED LIGHT . HECK THE SPEED IS 55 I WILL GO 75 ITS NO BIG DEAL . ITS A TINY LAW . P.S PUT THOSE WHO HIRE THEM AWAY TOO . AND 3 YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I DO MAYBE YOU FLIP BURGERS FOR A LIVING . MR LOMELI I HAVE TO DISAGREE TOTALLY WITH YOU OBAMA IS A BRILLIANT PRES . CMON HE IS LEADING US INTO B.K ALL THIS SPENDING . WHEN HIS TIME IS DONE IN 4 YEARS HE WILL BE RIGHT THERE WITH BUSHY .
#4 So, I guess in your opinion, Bush and McCain are both Brilliant as well! They were the ones who tried to pushi it through last time!
Here is the Flaw, Employers hire illegals because they are cheaper then legal residents. If you make them all legal, why would they hire them? They will get the NEXT Wave of Criminals..er illegals to do the jobs for less.We have a $10,000 penalty per person for hiring illegals! THE LAW IS NOT ENFORCED IT MUST BE ENFORCED OR WE WILL NEVER SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. Once we do that we can have a worker program that alows for free, open and orderly exchange of workers.
Don’t be fools either this is not a Republican Democrat thing there are plenty on Both side for and against it.
Or plan “B” we adopt Mexico immigration policy.
the great one,
Your opinion about the President is yours to have.
69% of the public disagrees with you. He was elected by a majority. The majority of the public also agrees with his policy including the stimulus plan. The rest of the world seems to love him. He has to be doing things right for all this to happen.
#3 did not suggest to disregard any law. He was simply pointing out that the emphisis on the laborer is mis- directed.
Hard right Pepublicans are the minority that disagree with the President %100.
#6 ,
The difference is that Bush and Mc Cain did not target employers. The enforcement was pure woker oriented. This strategy would not and did not force employers to put pressure on law makers to take any action to solve the issue.
The reason illegals take low wages is because they have no one to complain to and by the nature of working outside the law will accept cheaper wages. Legals have bargaining power illegal wokers don’t. They are easy to manipulate and abuse.
Cheaper wages to illegals is icing on the cake for employers. They get hired because they are excellent workers. If made legal they would be hired because of this reason.
Enforcing the law broken by the employer criminals would deter them hiring the next wave.

So Art, I noticed you failed to Confirm that you think McCain, and Bush are Brilliant, for pushing for illegal immigration? Tell me I’m Wrong
Bigmarkod,
I think we make it too hard for folks to come here to work. We ought to have a guest worker program. And we ought to make it easier to come here. Folks pay coyotes thousands of dollars to get over our border. They would pay our government the same money to come here legally…
Bigmarkod & the great one,
Your idealistic reliance on “the Law” and our government to protect your jobs will not happen in the real world unless our taxes are increased to cover all the protection you seem to demand. Your only chance of staying ahead of the game is to continually refresh and upgrade your job skills so that you out-produce the competion – then you’ll have nothing to fear.
Larry, I’m not worried about MY Job, if an illegal wants to come here get 2 undergrad degrees, and his masters, take and Pass his Series 7, 63 and 3 and then become a financial advisor. Hell I’ll hire them! If they want to come over and take my Brothers job as a heart surgeon, after 4 Years of College, A Year of Grad school,4 Years of Med School, 5 Year Residency….and so on….
I’m with art we need a way to have open exchange of labor, but it is not fair for the Taxpayer to pay for the Health, Medical, Education, housing, and everything else because they are subsidizing the EMPLOYER!
Bigmarkod,
I believe if employers did not hire illegals your issues with crime you associate with illegals would be irrelevant.
Why do you not list all the laws broken and crimes associated with employers hiring the workers. I sense a sinister agenda on your part. If not, then spread to blame fairly. Of concern is your attention focused on those with the minor role in this relationship.
You should support Obama -target the employers- in order to calm yourself as this will cause sound immigration reform and a temporary worker program.
I guess I have to be more direct with you on Bush McCain.
The brilliance with the President’s approach is placing responsibility and targeting employers.
Maybe Bush and McCain wanted to also take this approach but right wing Republicans with racial agendas, and/or political election strategies and/or corporate fat cats would not let them.
In any case they would not and did not, so they are not brilliant.
The reason workers now stay in the US is because it is more difficult and expensive to cross the border. When it was easy and cheap they worked and went back home.
This was changed in part to increase the birth rate in order to support the aging population. England and France have attempted the same by importing from the Middle East.
Large populations with proper management are the source of economic strength. Look at China,India and the USA.
mr lomeli 69 percent i think that is a little high what source did you get that form . obama is dropping big time and fast . lots of independents are now breaking away from him as oh no buyer beware . well now we are stuck with . but hey just like all the other ones on this site who bashed bush . and sometimes he did deserve it . obama scares the you know what out of me and his FAR LEFT VIEWS . his true colors are coming out led by pelosi / reed 2 absolute morrons especially pelosi
Could this recent focus by the Administration be an attempt to shift the focus to an on-going volatile issue awau from the embarrassments such as NATO refusing significant help in Afghanistan, the Koreans firing their missle in spite of the Administation saying we would take such action “very seriously”, and the continued plummet of the economy? Just seems that the news on most any front continues to be grim and the Administration’s attempt to turn things around do not seem productive.
