There is an interesting article in the L.A. Times about how Vietnamese Americans are suing those who allege that they are communists. These allegations can ruin lives, as the article pointe out.
One of the examples given is what happened to KimOanh Nguyen-Lam when she was hired then immediately fired as Superintendent of the Westminster Unified School District.
“Some board members later said they did not believe Nguyen-Lam was qualified. But according to court documents, one board member conceded that local community activist Sinh Cuong Cao called board members after the appointment and told them Nguyen-Lam was a communist,” according to the L.A. Times.
Nguyen-Lam is now suing Cao, who is being represented by Republican lawyer Mark Bucher, who is on the OC GOP Central Committee. Bucher also heads up the conservative Education Alliance, which tries to get religious conservatives elected to school boards.
The article also revealed that “In last year’s county supervisor race, both Supervisor Janet Nguyen and Assemblyman Van Tran (R-Garden Grove) called each other communist sympathizers, though it seemingly cost them few votes on election day.”
Unless you can read Vietnamese, you likely did not know that Nguyen and Tran were calling each other commies, as this sort of stuff takes place on Viet radio and in Viet newspapers, not to mention direct mail to Viet voters, in Vietnamese.
Can’t these people all grow up already and stop with the commie nonsense? I am glad that those affected by these slurs are finding remedies in our courts.
