“Aiming to stake his claim to the tech-savvy young voters who helped elect President Obama, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, 41, today took to the new media to formally announce he’s running for governor – by directly addressing hundreds of thousands of supporters simultaneously via YouTube, Facebook and Twitter,” according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Newsom makes the case, in his video (which you can see atop this post) that he “has created jobs, helped San Francisco establish a rainy day reserve and budgetary “sound fiscal policy,” and has tackled the challenge of providing universal health care to the uninsured.”
“Newsom, in the YouTube announcement that announces his formal bid, indirectly takes a jab at some of his competitors, suggesting the state is sorely in need of fresh blood – and fresh ideas – to tackle its myriad economic and social problems.”
Well, I agree that ther are far too many white Democrats from Northern California running for Governor, and Newsom is at least more progressive than the rest of them. But I find it hard to get excited about this guy. I do intend however to keep an eye on him going forward. Readers?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This turns my stomach and makes me want to vomit.
I do not think the mayor’s support of marriage equality will kill his campaign. His handling of dumping criminals to San Bernardino County and the sloppy sanctuary city policy that allowed a repeat offender who is an illegal immigrant to murder a father and his two sons.
Republicans are going to have a field day with this if he becomes a front runner. Gavin needs to save his money and run for the 8th State Senate District instead when Yeland Yee is termed out.
no thank you just what we need another s f liberal .post 3 has it right they will have a field day with his sanctury policy . when he turns his back on immigration law .
Phil’s so excited about Gavin running. He says he can mooch big time at campaign events. If I am lucky he will let me drive him to them.
Gavin Newsome, Downtown Jerry Brown and Tony the Phony…..all have better chance of winning the CA Gubenatorial Race than Steve Poizner. We need Tom Selleck or Mel Gibson..(with a new wife!)
