SAUSD teacher Isa de Quesada complained to President Barack Obama when he was in Costa Mesa recently for a townhall meeting. You may recall that the audience booed SAUSD Superintendent Jane Russo when Obama mentioned she was there.
Now de Quesada’s complaint about teacher layoffs has made the AP wire:
Santa Ana, Calif., English teacher Isa de Quesada is waiting to hear whether the stimulus dollars will bring her and 10 other teachers back to their school this fall. If not, class sizes at her school and others could swell, hurting the emphasis on quality education.
“Right now, I have 40 in two of my classes; we could go to 50 to 55 next year,” she said in an interview.
Recently, de Quesada had the chance to ask Obama about it in person when the president visited for a town hall meeting: “How are we going to make sure that money comes to our districts?” she said.
Obama replied that “the lion’s share” of the money is to keep teachers on the job.
I wonder if Obama would be interested in the fact that there are loopholes which could enable the state to confiscate all of that money for other purposes?
Most of the teachers who were pink slipped that year were rehired with the stimulus money. Grateful for those funds that kept some great caring teachers employed, and kept class sizes large but not larger. Grateful Santa Ana used those monies to retain teachers.
My name Iakopo Tanielu and Mrs De Quesada was my english teacher at Valley High School. SHE was one of my favorite teachers.
So good to get a comment from you! I hope life is treating you well!
These cheeky bloody PUBLIC school teachers are amazing!
Santa Ana is a failing school district, full of the worst preforming teachers and irresponsible parents. And you De Quesada want money to bring YOU back, so you can waste money in having your lazy arse in the class room. I want ALL of the teachers in Santa Ana fired and hired back only if they have been tried and tested on being competent enough to teach. Santa Ana is a district that is over funded and underperforming. This state spends BILLIONS on a school system that is broken because they have allowed the union and its worthless members to become more important than the actual education of the children.
Go get a job De Quesada, in a McDonalds were most public school teachers belong!
