Product Recall Warning!!!!!!!!!!!
I just received a recorded alert from Costco claiming that Nestle Toll House cookie dough may be E-coli contaminated. The message goes on to warn us not to eat any raw cookie dough. They provided the following toll free number for further information. 1.800.559.5025
As the line was busy I verified the message by the following AP account.
“By LAUREN SHEPHERD, AP Business Writer Lauren Shepherd, Ap Business Writer – Fri Jun 19, 11:34 am ET
NEW YORK – Nestle USA on Friday voluntarily recalled its Toll House refrigerated cookie dough products after a number of illnesses were reported by those who ate the dough raw.
The company said the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control are investigating reported E. coli illnesses that might be related eating the dough.
In a statement, the FDA said there have been 66 reports of illness across 28 states since March. About 25 people have been hospitalized, but no one has died.
The FDA advised consumers to throw away any prepackaged, refrigerated Nestle Toll House cookie dough products in their homes. Retailers, restaurateurs and employees at other food-service operations should also not sell or serve any of the products.
Nestle spokeswoman Roz O’Hearn said “this has been a very quickly moving situation,” adding the company took action less than 24 hours after hearing of the problem.
O’Hearn said the company will “cooperate fully” with the FDA’s investigation.
The recall includes refrigerated cookie bar dough, cookie dough tub, cookie dough tubes, limited edition cookie dough items, seasonal cookie dough and Ultimates cookie bar dough. It extends to chocolate chip dough and other varieties, including gingerbread, sugar and peanut butter cookie dough. It does not affect any other Toll House products, including ice cream that contains Toll House raw cookie dough.”
Larry,
I ate some cookie dough this morning before I read this. I am still alive right now, but call me in about an hour 🙂
Jill
Jill. Thanks for the heads up.
While I have your attention I might pass up on cookie dough ice cream as well.
Here I post a public safety notice and wonder what other comments may be forthcoming.
Regards,
Larry
No, I honestly appreciated this post because I love to have a little bit of cookie dough in the mornings to get me through the day. I bought Nestles cookie dough so I am glad you reported this…I just tossed it….you may have saved my life.
Even cooked foods are loaded with preservatives such as sodium so eating any uncooked packaged foods would certainly be risky. All foods are contaminated to some degree with insect parts, mice hairs, poop, etc. so testing would be difficult.
The poor cookie monster, I hope he lives. LOL
IF everything that could kill us actually did, thier would be nobody left.
