This is substantial news in the developing “Green Revolution” taking place in Iran. “In a very important development, Grand Ayatollah Hossein Ali Montazeri, the most senior cleric living in Iran, and one of the top two* marja’ taghlid (source of emulation) in Shiite Islam, issued a series of Fatwas, calling the Supreme Leader illegitimate and saying that he was working with the government against religion. Montazeri has called on people to take action against this injustice, even if they have to pay a heavy price for it. Ayatollah Motazeri, who has long been one of the most outspoken critics of Iran’s hard-liners……..” LINK
So, good thing he was killed, you're saying?
Folks, as you can see the American democracy is gravely disadvantaged.
As we are in disparate need for Fatwa, there is no one to issue it.
Maybe Judge Sonia Sotomayor will issue one on the non Hispanics population.
This is a huge development. This story isn’t over yet.
Interesting that the U.S. has had nothing to do with this.
Imagine what Bush could have accomplished without starting needless wars?
Wow look what staying out of what is not your business is doing. We should have done this long ago.
I agree with you Jim and Art. Its so much better to be a passive audience in these turns of events, rather than stepping in and getting ourselves into trouble like the Republicans were suggesting that Obama do.
This is a story that deserves to be followed. I am cheerleading from the sidelines for the rights of the populace against their violent leadership.
The sole conservative candidate that opposed Ahmadinejad is now speaking out:
IRAN: Nation headed for ‘disintegration’ if crisis festers, former candidate warns

As an Iranian American I would like to thank you for your support and encouraging words. You are doing a lot by being informed and informing your friends. Dictators and murderers loath public attention. As you know foreign news media has been expelled from Iran and Iranian journalists have been imprisoned. Independent newspapers and many weblogs have been shut down (http://www.rsf-persan.org/article16772.html). In these times, it is imperative that all the freedom-loving people of the world to disseminate the news that they find reliable. Each of can act as a journalist. There are also several petitions online which you could read and sign (http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/protest-against-the-june-2009-coup-detat-in-iran.html).
This Poem by the Persian poet (Saadi) graces the entrance to the United Nations hall of the nations
Human beings are members of a whole,
In creation of one essence and soul.
If one member is afflicted with pain,
Other members uneasy will remain.
If you have no sympathy for human pain,
The name of human you cannot retain.
Saeid
Not sure that this is true:), but thanks for a post.
