“Taller San Jose, a job-training program in Santa Ana founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange, is holding a drawing for a 2009 Chevy Hybrid Tahoe or Silverado,” according to the O.C. Register.

Tickets are $100 each, or six for $500. People who buy a ticket by Friday, July 31 are eligible for an early-bird prize of $1,000 in American Express cash.

You will have to wait until Taller San Jose’s Light Up a Life gala Sept. 19, in San Juan Capistrano, to see if you won. For information, call 714-543-5105 or see tallersanjose.org.

I have taught several OSHA Construction safety courses, for free, for the students at Taller San Jose’s construction school.  This is a truly great program.  These kids are trying to make something of themselves.  Many of them come from broken homes and gang backgrounds.  But they always pay attention when I teach them about safety.

Since 1995, Taller San Jose has helped more than 4,000 high-risk young adults to restructure their lives, finish high school and develop marketable skills. They also teach office skills and medical careers.

I would encourage all of our readers to buy a ticket or two.  Who knows?  You might win a new car!
