When does a “single source” EVER provide better service and product than competition?

Was it better under Ma Bell? Is that what these Single Payer Nutters are saying? We should never have broken up the phone company? Would that work for car companies? Are they saying we should all be buying our cars from Government Motors? That, of course, by their rationale, would reduce the costs of a car for everyone. Or maybe they’re talking about groceries. Certainly we need groceries as much or more than we need health INSURANCE??? So we should all be buying our groceries from Hippie Co-Op Inc. Cut down on all that ADMINISTRATIVE COST, right? And provide a product for cheaper. Of course, those of you who shop at Whole Foods or Stater Brothers might not like what you can buy but hey, we all have to make sacrifices.
That is what should go through the minds of anyone who hears that propaganda on Single Payer. Oh, it’ll work so much better. Just ask yourself, WHEN was the last time that actually worked? And remember, ANYTHING the government spends YOUR MONEY on, it had to spend .25 for each dollar it collects before it ever does a THING. There is no advantage. There is no benefit. There is only people scaring you about how you can’t do it yourself and you need government to take care of you. This from a bunch of folks who are, in turn, too scared to do it themselves.
Terry,
I think all we have to do is take a look at the Cash for Clunkers Debacle, and there should no excuse for govt healthcare….. seriously these guys screwed up Used cars…People cant get service (systems are over run) they WAAAAAAYYYYYY undersetimated the cost (no comment even needed) and now are running around trying to cover up…
Medicare is a Single Payer program and I get information from at least 6-8 health care goups/insurers every enrollment period – all competing for my business with different benefits.
There don’t seem to be a lot of complaints coming from the 65+ crowd. Medicare probably ought to be gradually extended to everyone.
Cash for Clunkers, another Single Payer program seems to be a big success – works much better than paying bonuses to investment bankers who only kept their jobs because of the bailouts.
All those health care groups/insurers wont be there anymore Larry. The government will first control costs with subsidies, which means even though they SAY they’re paying less, we’re picking up the difference. Then once that’s done, its off to the races pal.
“everyone ought to be put into medicare”
Larry, type “medicare going bankrupt” into google and read some of the 82,000 articles.
Not a lot of complaints from the 65+ crowd… good god.
Larry,
You have a strange definition of success?
Getting people to line up for free money, cars, gas lunch or anything is easy. I don’t think getting people to accept free money can be called a “success” in any way. There were 200 people lined up outside Rubys for a $2.70 Burger last week… are they successful??? Should they run Healthcare?
On the other hand, the fact that they now, twice have changed what is a “Clunker” and have changed twice the EPA fuel mileage standards.
They have WAAYY underestimated the number of people wanting the free money, and their system is broken and not working, so now dealers are forcing buyers to agree to return their cars if they get denied the $4500 trade in…FAILURE
It is successful in one way, once again the governmant has managed to control just a little bit more of your life, and you are now being forced to buy a car you may not otherwise have purchased….Congratulations, You just sold some of your freedom…
I thought the concept worked prettywell for Dick Cheney and Haliburton and the NO BID contracts awarded in Iraq.
But thats not really the point right. I am glad that we don’t need to pussyfoot around anymore and defend the GOP. It is clear by the actions that they support hosing the little guy in favor of multinational offshore companies, and they’re hacks.
SCREW EM ALL right guys!
Medicare, like SS, is a “pay as you go” system despite what Mr Freedom & Al Gore type liberals shout about the “lock box”. Change is continuous and if Mr Freedom doesn’t increase his productivity to pay for these programs (as past generations have done), we’ll ship his job off to China and collect more taxes from his ex-employer.
Medicare should actually start to increase its surplus as the growing obese poplulation will never make it to age 65.
And “Cash for Clunkers” at $2-4 Billion dollars benefits poorer Americans as compared to the $10 billion a month spent on the Iraq war to employ thousands of Jordanians, Pakistanis, Egyptians, etc & put profits into the hands of Halliburton & co-conspirators.
