Meg Whitman picks up more endorsements despite Poizner’s bleating about her voting record

“A former GOP official in California is dropping his endorsement of State Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner and will instead support his rival, eBay CEO Meg Whitman, in the state’s Republican gubernatorial primary,” according to CNN.

Bob Naylor, a former Minority Leader in the California State Assembly and a onetime chairman of the California Republican Party, said Tuesday that Whitman has a better chance of appealing to moderates and Democrats in the 2010 general election — if she can survive the Republican primary gauntlet.

Finally we can stop talking about Whitman’s voting record.  This endorsement means a lot for Whitman as it signals that folks are ready, despite the voting record issue, to get off the sining Poizner campaign and get behind someone that might actually have a chance to win.

But that’s not all.  “On Tuesday, Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin announced she will support the Republican candidate in the race, and will serve as a co-chair in her campaign,” according to a Fox T.V. station in Fresno.

But both Whitman and Poizner got some bad news today as State Attorney General Jerry Brown finally pulled papers and started up an exploratory committee.  You think that Whitman versus Poizner is rough?  Wait until you see Brown and San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom mix it up…
