Santa Ana’s high water prices may rise even more if the MWD pension spike is approved
Santa Ana Mayor Pro Tem Claudia Alvarez added an 85a item, at the last minute, to the agenda for tonight’s Santa Ana City Council meeting. The item is titled “Proposed Metropolitan Water District Employee Compensation and Benefits Issue.”
What this means is anyone’s guess. My theory is that she is going to ask the City Council to vote to support the irresponsible proposed pension spike for the MWD workers, but who knows? Perhaps she may be taking the counter view. One can only hope.
Santa Ana residents pay the highest water prices in Orange County, even though we have our own water table, which is to say that we store our water underground, for the most part.

Why does the city of Santa Ana still have failed insurance salesman and former Disgraced City Councilman Dan Griset (You know the guy…sat on the Council in the 1980’s and got rich and built political power building tens of thousands of High Density Apartments ) representing the city on the powerful MWD board???? Most of the Cockroach Councilmembers from this time period are pushing up daisys or playing shuffle board in retirement homes but Danny Boy still creeps along in the shadows. Rumor has it that this guy left his family and lives with some Russian gal he met on the internet in a studio apartment in the French Court neighborhood. Nice. Can’t we do better?
Why don’t they get someone with someone more accountable to the citizens to fill the post?
I bet Sean could write a good post about Griset and let newer residents know who he is. (You can get a photo off the MWD web site I think)
Many who know Dan say he’s a racist. Read more…

Why would an all Hispanic Council choose him to represent the city?
Seems Griset has been convicted of political crimes too.

I wonder why the council would keep a dirty trickster like Griset on the MWD board? He must have naked photos of the Council or something like that which keeps him from being replaced. What’s your theory Art/Sean?
So what happened on this item at the meeting?
I saw some fat flabby
Al Bundy and his friend’s (Jefferson D’arcy etc.) chauvinist group whose … NO MA’AM stands for: National Organization of Men Against Amazonian Masterhood. …
they looked right out of “Married w/ Children’s set!
the bellys portruded 3 feet out–these guys haven’t seen their feet in over fifteen years!!!!!
on their way out –if looks could kill!
things did not go their way! LOL
Art,
Can you explain why Santa Ana resident’s water bill is so high if:
– Santa Ana has it’s own water table.
– Pumps free water from it’s own water table.
– Having it’s own free water source should not need to buy any or as much as cities not having their own free water source.
Does any one know who and how this free water source is managed or mismanaged?
Dr. Lomeli,
Studies have shown that Santa Ana spends far more on administration of its water program compared to other Orange County cities.
On top of that, I suspect that the city has ignored decaying infrastructure – and has had to spend more to fix what should have been maintained in the first place.
And I am told that the city may have paid for their fancy city yard by using water department funds.
We do have to buy water from the MWD, which is stored below ground. In years when we have a lot of rain we get water for free, but the last few years have been dry.
Lastly, I am told we sell water to the Irvine Ranch Water District at a big discount…
Art,
“Lastly, I am told we sell water to the Irvine Ranch Water District at a big discount…”
Why at a big discount? Irvine residents get benefit of Santa Ana’s free water resulting in lower water rates for them while Santa Ana Residents do not and it is their free water??????
Does any one know why Santa Ana sells free water at a discount to Irvine and replaces that sold water buy buying higher priced water from MWD.
Doesn’t the Mayor of Santa Ana sit on the MWD board?????
Why are Santa Ana’s residents subsidizing Irvine’s water costs????
Sounds like a class act law suit in the making.
Santa Ana allow Irvine Water District to pump water out of Santa Ana from a pumping station in Delhi neighborhood. MWD Board Member from Santa Ana is Dan Griset (former Mayor and councilmember) It’s Dan who keep voting to raise our rates Who appointed Griset and who can replace him? He serves at the pleasure of the Santa Ana City Council. They could remove him tomorrow. Why they keep appointing these political re-treds is a mystery to me! There will never be real Environmental Justice in Santa Ana until they replace some of these racist Gringos who continue to sell out our community. That’s my opinion anyway.
How about a new post with the results of the meeting. I can’t find any information.
#12,
I plan to find out what happened later today. Am going to get the update from a Council Member.
Will update then.
And yes, once again the Orange Juice was the ONLY place to read about this story. The Register and the Times did not cover it.
Gracias Mr. Art….That’s why I canceled my newspaper subscriptions earlier this year and now get all my news from your Orange Juice Blog. I check it three or more times each day for breaking news. Thank you.
Mr. Art…I do still read the O.C. Weekly because of the articles by Mr. Gustavo. I trust the two of you only.
