California is on Barbara Boxer’s naughty list in the healthcare deal coming out of Washington. Other states got goodies in their stockings, while all California got was coal. The corrupt bargain gives Nebraska and Louisiana sweet deals (at California taxpayer’s expense), while all California gets is more state spending ($3 billion), higher taxes, and the higher insurance costs that will result from federal insurance mandates. Higher business costs mean lower profits and (hence) lower California tax revenues. And higher business costs mean more struggling Californians will be thrown out of work. Californians strongly supported Obama’s promise of Hope and Change. See how Boxer repays us. It is time for a Change – send Barbara Boxer home.
Great reporting as always, thank you!
i hope we can get together and kick this total loser out of office next nov .
Go home, Boxer!
I voted for her, but ever since the “call me Senator” incident, I want to barf every time I see her face. What an arrogant stuck up bitch.
lam pho i agree so much i want to see her face if we can get someone to knock her of her pompus ass
Really Lam?
I don’t think I’ve ever met a woman who likes to be called “Ma’am”, most women are secretly tickled to be referred to as “Miss”, which has connotations of youth and innocence, whereas “Ma’am”, unless spoken by someone with a particularly sweet voice (think Jack McBrayer on 30 Rock), almost always has negative and snide connotations. Now, I will agree that the Senator should have known better and was out of line, but really it’s a small transgression and probably from a woman of her generation, just a gut reaction.
What we should really be focused on is her legislation, if you bother to go to her website you will see she is sponsoring a number of bills SUPPORTING SMALL BUSINESSES, and let us NOT FORGET that she was one of the very few Senators to be AGAINST the war in Iraq from the beginning (for our “frugal” Republican friends, THAT would have been a SAVING to California of OVER 90 BILLION DOLLARS).
The “Rogue Elephant” and others voicing their phony outrage over our Senators not getting “enough” in earmarks is typical of the new brand of Republicans (no “rogue” about it) these Republicans led by our corporate media (with FOX leading the charge) will take ANY position as long as it is partisan. It’s as if FOX put a ring-through-their-nose and is now “training” them to jump through hoops, there is no principal that can’t be ditched, no idiocy too outrageous, no lie too unbelievable for these folks to embrace and all while being told that they alone are “smart”, “mavericky” and “free-thinkers”.
How does FOX and the corporate media get these folks to support such lunacy?
Well, other than the obvious, that most of their viewers are just plain dumb, the real catch is that at heart, they are mean, petty people who can’t stand the thought of any one getting something more than them and they are willing to do ANYTHING, take ANY position to make sure that doesn’t happen.
To use a Christmas movie (It’s a Wonderful Life) analogy; they are the Mr. Potters of the world, although most of them believe that they are George Bailey. It’s a Wonderful Life is really a very LIBERAL tale, with a very good message, by working together and being generous as individuals and as a community, we can ALL have a better life and a better world.
Happy winter solstice all!
I’ve watched that video a few times trying to figure out what is offensive about a Senator politely requesting a general to address her as Senator.
Of course it’s all patented rightwing FAUX-OUTRAGE, both over a military man not being treated like a demigod, and over a powerful woman asking for respect. Now I’m a little surprised that the normally sensible Lam Pho is also susceptible to the outrage. I have to disagree.
I never understood that exchange as a personal or female thing, so much as a salutory and necessary reminder of the equality of the legislative branch with the executive and military, in these days when Americans still reflexively, incorrectly, and fascistically refer to the President as their “Commander in Chief” and Congress has nearly completely relinquished its voice in matters of war.
Well, if all this makes Lam want to “barf,” there must be something emotional there that I don’t know how to deal with.
omg the far lefties vern and annoster have come out of their hole . its a fox thing oh yes you guys think fox blew up the towers and knew about before hand . check out her ratings outside sf where you guys live and take your politics from .
