Connie Lee, of Mission Viejo (Picture Courtesy of the OC Weekly)
Connie Lee, who was recognized as a “volunteer of the month” by the OCGOP, at which time she received certificates of appreciation from Congressman Gary Miller, State Senator Mimi Walters, Assemblyman Jeff Miller, OCBOS Chair Patricia Bates and OCGOP Chairman Scott Baugh, was recently appointed Mission Viejo City Chair by the Orange County GOP, OCGOP.
Her duties and responsibilities as City Chairman include active voter registration and leadership in getting out the vote, GOTV. The position includes identifying and selecting Precinct Captains, something that Connie has been quietly doing without fan fare over the past decade.
Mrs. Lee is a dynamo when working on behalf of Republican candidates running for all levels of office be it for local city council and School Board Trustees to statewide and national positions.
The OCGOP was very lucky to get someone with her credentials to take over this neglected City post.
Thank you for the mention. As Larry has said many times, there is no “I” in teamwork. Getting out the vote is so important, and it takes everyone to do it. Members of Saddleback Republican Assembly have worked hard year after year. Maybe not everyone knows Larry Gilbert was SRA president for two terms.
Gee, there’s an entirely different picture Ms Lee painted by Matthew Cunningham on RedCounty today. He’s saying she violated section 11046 of the election code knowingly. If so that would be a crime. I’m so confused as to what to believe.
Dan. Some facts for you and our readers.
1. Jerbal is a close friend of Frank Ury who preceded Connie at our OCGOP City Chair.
2. Jerbal opposes the MacLean recall so he has an agenda to discredit the effort.
3. Be careful buying into any disgruntled paid signature gatherer statements when you don’t have all the facts.
Larry,
How convenient that Jerbal did not mention in his post why MacLean is being recalled…
Email from Saddleback Republican Assembly Board Member:
“Do you remember when Frank was chairman. I never heard a word!”
Art. Perhaps I should check out Jerbal’s web site.
Not being a regular visitor I was not aware of his Mission Viejo coverage
The guy doesn’t sound all that disgruntled in his email text. The tone of his email was very even and sincere. His diction is very matter of fact. And he states that he only did the job for a week or two. It’s implied that this took place sometime last spring or early summer. People who are disgruntled tend not to have that sort of control over diction and syntax. Their passion bleeds through.
I really don’t know who Jerbal is. Is that a nickname?
Dan, “Jerbal” is what folks on this blog call Matt Cunningham.
Years ago, Matt Cunningham and Art Pedroza were both Republicans and friends and ran this blog together. (That is like the book of Genesis)
They had a falling out – fallings out happen with dependable regularity in the OC blogosphere. And meanwhile Art became disillusioned with the OC GOP’s racism and homophobia, and became an independent (and later a Libertarian.) Matt went on to start the OC Blog, part of a group of Republican blogs known as Red County, and known to us as Red-Faced County due to their tendency to embarrass themselves.
During all this time Matt wrote under the pseudonym “Jubal” which he got from, I don’t know, some silly science fiction book he liked. Some time when I was in prison this past year, Art and Tony Bushala – our “fringe” rightwinger from Fullerton – changed that to Jerbal. I guess that was embarrassing enough that Matt now only calls himself Matt.
As I relate all this it sounds so dumb that you were probably better off not knowing any of it. But Matt’s blog really is pretty predictable, as boring a cheerleading site for the GOP as the Liberal OC is for the Dems. The Orange Juice draws your more crazy unpredictable bloggers who like to feel free to criticize or praise anybody. Generally.
Vern,
Actually, I invited Claudio Gallegos to blog with me about a year after I launched the Orange Juice. I never blogged with Jerbal, but he did used to like me when I was a Republican.
And of course Claudio now is at the Liberal OC, and those guys love Jerbal, which I just cannot explain.
Bottom line – the red guys at Jerbal’s blog and the blue boys at the Lib OC are all a bunch of partisan hacks. Jerbal is worse as he is a paid shill.
The Orange Juice gets a bit nuts at times, but none of us are paid shills. And we encourage all sides to participate. It is like herding cats at times but we are never boring…
Wow, you never blogged with Jerbal? My knowledge of ancient blog prehistory has been faulty for a long time! My bad.
Brother Vern. This was an easy test of “Trust, But Verify.”
Thank you Art for acknowledging your Juice family, both past and present.
Hi everyone.
I thought this thread was about Connie Lee being chosen to replace Frank Ury as OCGOP City chair for MV.
Note: Last night I did get a phone message from Scott Voigts, CRA VP, commending her selection.
Who cares who you hear from Larry, if this thread is about Ms Lee? Scott should have called Ms Lee and not you!!! And what about the allegations she has had made against her with having paid people outside of MV to get signatures. You stated above, “Be careful buying into any disgruntled paid signature gatherer statements when you don’t have all the facts.”
Well what are the facts? Enlighten us all mighty “King of your own blog” so those of us will go away.
By the way, nice picture? That’s the best you can come up with? Real flattering.
#13,
Larry did not post the picture. I did. It was the only one I could find online.
The facts, I am sure, will come out soon enough.
“Who cares Larry.”
Folks this is a member of my MV fan club. This person is so clueless that he or she is saying that the Juice is my blog. Wing it from inside a foxhole is in order for these brave anonymous contributors.
Scott and I have been friends for the past 15 years. The fact that he called me was to acknowledge my post commending her selection. Genius. How do you know if Scott in fact didn’t also place a call to Connie?
At last night’s council meeting Connie Lee stated that it doesn’t matter where signature gathers live. But according to state law it does matter. Ignorance never nullifies the law. So all that really needs to happen is to find out if the signature gatherer lives in Lake Forest as he claims. If so then every petition sheet Ms. Lee signed gets tossed. Gotta wonder how many of them she signed.
Wonderful. Dan Avery is now an elections code attorney.
Be careful professing to be an expert on this topic because you are not.
My suggestion to readers is to stay tuned.
And by the way Mr. Avery. How many times do I need to request that your comments stay on the thread?
This post is about Connie being selected by the OCGOP to get out the vote in our city.
Is your angst triggered by your being a registered Democrat and we now have someone will do a much better job in getting Republican voters to the polls than Frank Ury??
Larry I haven’t been a democrat in years. Wait, let me rephrase that, the democrats gave up being democrats some time in the 1970’s. My angst gets triggered by anyone who fools around with our system of elected representation. I’m surprised yours doesn’t apparently. Like it or not Lance MacLean won the election. I haven’t liked anyone who actually won since Carter I guess. But here in the United States we live with who gets elected until the next election. Otherwise, we don’t have a representational republic anymore. But I bet you asked that question about my angst so I’d go off topic and I’d be censored.
Dan.
Why didn’t we permit Gov Davis to complete his term?
Really, you want to use THAT big waste as a justification? You really think that was worth it, spending all that money and going thru that whole circus, just to end up with …
Arnold Schwarzenegger, who by almost any measure has been worse than Gray Davis?
Good morning Brother Vern. While I NEVER voted for Arnold, as stated on this blog, the illustration is valid.
PS: A new post on the MacLean recall election is in process now.
This has been, and continues to be, a very busy week for my wife and myself related to our involvement in church Christmas activities.
A new post, that involves Connie Lee and the recall allegations, will be added later this morning.
Can you still hold this position once you are convicted of voter fraud for doing illegal activities when it came to hiring and getting signatures for the recall? You spent sooo much of your own money on the recall you might as well pay the $270K for the special election if it can’t be stopped in time because of your groups illegal ways of obtaining votes, i.e., paying someone under the table so he can still collect his unemployment money, having signature gathers from outside the city get signatures for a city recall process, etc, etc.
“Hey Connie.” whomever your really are.
The silence from city hall since the Dec 7th meeting is deafening. Was Connie subpoenaed to appear before any court? Was she charged with any crime and found guilty? Me thinks you are too anxious. Get a grip and let the investigation play out before erecting the gallows next to Santa’s house. Do me a favor. Be sure to add your final thoughts after the Feb 2nd recall of Lance.
We look forward to your comments on the outcome. Regardless of the election results I will be posting that final summary.
You (and Connie) still didn’t answer my question. Can she still serve? Speaking of the deafening silence, Larry how about you reporting on the investigation since Connie has already been interviewed and she did admit publicly to having people outside the city gather signatures. What is going on from your investigative perspective since you were in no way involved with this group? You seem to have a good inside on this kind of stuff. Sorry, forgot this is supposed to be about Connie and being appointed to serve as City Chair by the OCGOP to help get votes but with the allegations made I would hope they would reconsider based on the known facts as they have been presented and she even admitted breaking the law by paying someone under the table and then having non-Mission Viejo voters obtain signatures on a city recall which is (based on the law) illegal. Happy Holidays
Hey Connie.
For your information this post was written by me. Are you assuming that Connie Lee sits in front of her computer 24/7 awaiting comments on the Orange Juice blog when she is engaged in the recall that will occur in 48 days? Get real.
We shall have to wait and see if she is found guilty of breaking any laws. Our chief of police services has undertaken an investigation and has not shared his results with me nor any other member of the press. Did Lt. Gavin give you a call?
If so, please fill us in with his outcome.
To your question – Did Lt. Gavin give you a call?
YES he did give me a call but at this time I am working with (him) our chief of police services and can say no more.
Hey Connie. You are a clown. I sent a 3 page email to our chief of police services at 10:21:54 a.m. And until Mike and I connect there is nothing further to say. And should we have a discussion on this issue , what makes you think we are compelled to share the content with you? Nice try.
I’m sure if you learn something juicy, you’ll posted it! But…if it is not good news on your small group of good ole boys to include CL or DT then you won’t share the content with the rest of us. By the way, I was not truthful (kind of reminds you of CL & DT doesn’t it) when I said I got a call from our Chief of Police Services as actually it was the DA’s office…………….
Hey Connie via Larry
Good for you mystery person. I am impressed. You have a friend in the DA’s office. I know his sister in-law Judy. So what! This post is about an allegation against Dave Leckness that I have pursued in covering this recall election.
Let me now update you and our Juice readers. I just concluded a phone discussion with our chief of police services and sent him the email response from the plaintiff, to use that legal term.
So Mr big shot. I have passed the baton to the proper authorities and will wait, like everyone else, to see where it ends up. Say good bye!
Connie Lee, I think your e-mail got deleted and for some reason I had your phone number wrong. My question is why has the Yes for Recall cancell and refused to attend the Cox Forum to debate the issues? I have and am reading everything I can including the Saddleback News on this issue to inform people that ask me about candidates, judges and propositions. So I like to be informed
Lee. Can I help you out? This is not Connie’s story nor Connies blog.
While she does read our posts don’t assume that in the heat of the battle that she has time to take every question from Juice readers in addition to all of her other campaign efforts.
I did see her at 7 a.m. with a dozen other concerned citizens at Alicia and Muirlands. Covering all four corners with a dozen different recall or vote for Dale Tyler banners were men and women waving to motorists who honked their approval of the cause by blowing their horns or giving a thumbs up as they headed to the freeway.
You want to be informed as people ask you about candidates judges and propositions?
Do you know that COX did not invite either of the two recall candidates nor Lance to be on that program where, at the last minute, they changed the format?
Stay tuned. If it aires I will provide the real agenda of that bogus taping.
Wierd, if you are a politician and currently serving in office, you can lie through your teeth as Trish and Ury do constantly. When Connie or her signature gatherers tell people things that are fact, (people tell me all the time ‘it must be true I read it in the paper’), everything she said during the campaign has been printed. But I guess she is held to a higher standard than the council is. What else is new?
