Pres. Johnson’s Secretary of Defense, Robert McNamara, explains why escalation in Vietnam was a huge mistake
Bill Hedrick, Top Democratic Congressional Candidate (CA-44), Reacts to President’s Afghanistan Policy Speech at West Point
Even ‘Short Term’ Escalation Will Cost Taxpayers Tens of Billions that America Can’t Afford
CORONA, CA – Bill Hedrick, the first major Congressional candidate to voice opposition to the President’s proposed troop increase in Afghanistan, reacted to the President’s speech at West Point tonight.
Said Hedrick, “While President Obama is setting clear benchmarks and urging other nations to participate in Afghanistan, I continue to oppose the decision to send troops. It places more American lives at risk for the corrupt Karzai government. Any escalation will cost tens of billions of dollars that would be better spent on creating and keeping jobs in America.”
Bill Hedrick has been a public school teacher for 35 years and, as a member of the Corona-Norco Board of Education, has helped lead California’s 8th largest school district for 21 years, improving the education of 53,000 children. With a grassroots campaign and no national support, Bill came within less than two percentage points of unseating 16-year incumbent Rep. Ken Calvert in 2008. Bill is running again to bring real leadership – leadership we can trust – to the people of California’s 44th Congressional District.

Hedrick almost beat incumbent Ken Calvert, who is a lame Republican, last year. Let’s hope he can finish off Calvert in 2010!
Calvert’s response to Obama’s speech? “I think it is necessary. I understand people are weary of this…” But if the United States is removed or defeated in the eyes of the enemy this would embolden these terrorist organizations to continue to attack the United States and our interests.’’ (Source: O.C. Register).
Here is Republican congressional candidate Quang X. Pham’s response to the Obama escalation, “I support keeping advisers and aid intact but not committing any more American combat troops. We have more than enough there now. America cannot afford another war and we cannot take on more federally unfunded liabilities for future generations,” according to Pham’s website.
