A recent internal investigation at Anaheim PD concludes that several officers wrongfully arrested an activist who frequently speaks out against OC Sheriff candidate Craig Hunter.
James Robert Reade is a civil rights activist from Anaheim with a long history of publicly speaking out against abusive Anaheim police officers. For years, Reade has been making accusations specifically against Deputy Chief Craig Hunter, who is now a candidate for OC Sheriff.
Back in October, weeks before Craig Hunter was to announce his candidacy, James Robert Reade claims that he was assaulted by Anaheim PD and arrested on based on false accusations of drug use.

Mistakes will happen. I don’t see the story here.
They say that nearly 110% of everyone in jail says they are not guilty if you ask them. I’d ask O.J. readers (those that have no criminal record) how many people they know who were “innocent” of crimes who got roughed up by police. Happens VERY rarely. Not worth talking about. My experience is that most guys like this are guilty of something.
Of the 300,000 people in Anaheim, it’s funny how “mistakes happen” to the one guy who speaks out against Craig Hunter. Are you really buying that?
Great post, Travis. Thank you for exposing this. There is a pattern of habitual police abuse in Anahiem PD and somehow a lot it filters back to one man – Craig Hunter.
This should be very troubling to the voters since this man is now running for Sheriff at the urging of Mike Carona and Carona’s inside team. Why anybody would support this man is beyond me.
” I’d ask O.J. readers (those that have no criminal record) how many people they know who were “innocent” of crimes who got roughed up by police. Happens VERY rarely. Not worth talking about. My experience is that most guys like this are guilty of something.”
Rarely has a population been so enamored with those that police them. Our founding fathers reminded us time and time again the perils of letting down our guard against the tyranny of government, including its mechanisms of enforcement. This post turns every aspect of the Bill of Rights on its head, and is antithetical to the very things our country was founded upon.
Churchill once wrote, “The power of the Executive to cast a man into prison without formulating any charge known to the law, and particularly to deny him the judgment of his peers, is in the highest degree odious and is the foundation of all totalitarian government whether Nazi or Communist.”
Travis,
When can we expect to see your post about Bill Hunt acting as rapist Greggy Haidl’s chauffeur when Greggy got popped for drugs? Off course Hunt made sure Greggy didn’t get in trouble then made a phone call to George Jaramillo to make sure he let Carona and Don Haidl know that he cleaned things up for Greggy.
You gonna write that one soon Trav?
Travis appears to use facts in his blogs, unlike you Sean, and doesn’t make things up as he goes along.
The Carona indictment specifically addresses the issue. “In or about October 2003, defendant CARONA and co-conspirator Jaramillo caused co-conspirator Haidl’s son to receive preferential treatment from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department in connection with a drug offense.” Carona Indictment, page 19, IV, OVERT ACTS, 15, (65) http://www.ocregister.com/newsimages/breaking_news/2007/10/carona_indictment.pdf
Isn’t this little fact an inconvenient truth for ya?
Flip Flop,
Who was the officer responsible for insuring Greggy Haidl got that preferential treatment? Oh yah, it was Bill Hunt. Hunt called Jaramillo to make sure Carona and Haidl knew that he, Bill Hunt, took care of things for them.
I guess that’s a little inconvenient truth for you.
#7,
Travis is using facts provided by miscreants and scofflaws. As such the facts are questionable at best.
Flip Flop,
Here’s another inconvenient truth for you, besides having deputies take Greggy Haidl home instead of to jail and then have them remove details from the police report of the incident which Hunt signed, Bill Hunt also help a donor/friend in regards to a DUI stop.
You can watch CBS2 video on that story here: http://cbs2.com/video/?id=10772@kcbs.dayport.com
Bill Hunt has already shown himself to be Carona-like. We can’t afford a repeat of that.
VOTE CRAIG HUNTER!!!!
HA! Sean you have to get over the Carona mantra. The weed wasn’t Haidle’s. It was the other kids. You get a ticket for weed. You don’t go to jail. The key word is that Carona and Jarmillo “caused” the prefential treatment.I know words can be somewhat confusing. Hunt wasn’t even working that night. The DUI guy got arrested. End of story.
Art. Since when is a Jury “miscreants and scofflaws”? They are the ones who nailed Hunter not that Nolan fellow.
“The weed wasn’t Haidle’s. It was the other kids.”
So what. A person out on bail and awaiting trial for raping a teenage girl should not be in the same vehicle as illegal drugs. It is a violation of his bail and he should’ve been taken to OCJ, not home.
“You get a ticket for weed. You don’t go to jail.”
You most certainly do go to jail if you are out on bail and awaiting trial for raping a teenage girl. Greggy was out on bail and should have been sent straight back to OCJ, but because Hunt wanted attaboys from Carona and Don Haidl Greggy got chaufferred home.
“The key word is that Carona and Jarmillo “caused” the prefential treatment.”
Bill Hunt was a sworn police officer whose duty it was to uphold the law. If someone, even his superior, directs him to break the law it is his duty to ignore that person and uphold the law. Clearly this demonstrates that Hunt puts self preservation above the law otherwise he would have driven Greggy to OCJ himself, instead he took him home.
“The DUI guy got arrested.”
He got a ride home first after his phone call to Bill Hunt.
“And with that comes the request that you and Art both take an honest look into the facts published about Hunter’s background.”
And Travis we have offered to arrange a meeting between yourself and Deputy Chief Hunter so you can ask him about these allegations face to face. You have refused such a meeting and continue to carry the water for the “Huntista’s”.
Sean. Now you are a legal expert? The babble continues as it is clear that you don’t know what you don’t know. “Violation of bail” What’s that? He hadn’t been convicted of anything yet. Now Hunt’s supervisor was directing him to do something? You are just making all this up as you go along. If Carona couldn’t nail Hunt admistratively or otherwise I doubt anything existed at all.
Flip Flop,
Your spin continues!
If you are out on bail and involved in a incident like Greggy was you aren’t given a ride home. You are taken to jail and brought before a judge for bail revocation hearing.
If you are awaiting rape charges and your name isn’t Greggy Haidl and you get caught up like this your ass ends up in OCJ.
But because Bill Hunt was looking for attaboys from Carona and Don Haidl he made sure Greggy made it home to his nice warm and comfy bed instead of a cell at OCJ.
If I am just making stuff up as you allege then why did the Attorney General smack Hunt down for, “exercising poor judgment in his decision to direct [the deputy] to remove details contained in his report”?
The facts are out there if folks want to see thru the blizzard being created by the snow job initiated by Huntista’s like you.
Sean. You don’t go before a judge because some else has a little bit of weed. That would be a violation of your constitutional rights. Hunter on the other hand is all about violating constitutional rights and a jury of 12 took 300 large out of the taxpapers pockets and handed it to Nolan as a result of the mexican beating and cover up by Hunter. Now we have this article by Travis. I see a pattern by Hunter.
BTW. Supervisors rewrite reports all the time to make sure they are accurate. The deputy said he thought it was Haidl’s pot. The deputies opinions are inadmissable. Just the facts Ma’me
“You don’t go before a judge because some else has a little bit of weed.”
Oh really? Being in a vehicle in which a crime is being committed is very likely a violation that would lead a judge to revoke bail. He was out on bail for a very serious and heinous crime, the rape of a teenager, do you think that if he wasn’t Greggy Haidl they would have taken him home and not to jail?
To suggest that Hunt did nothing wrong is just laughable. Even the Attorney General chastised him for his behavior. Obviously the Attorney General saw something wrong with the “rewrite”.
Funny you would mention “constitutional rights”. Hunt is a big supporter of Joe Arpaio, a man who routinely violates the constitutional rights of people.
“Just the facts”? That is a laughable statement. You are just trying to spin Hunt’s questionable ethics. He protected a rapist of a teenage girl just to get attaboys from the corrupt Sheriff and his corrupt henchmen. What a man of character he is.
VOTE CRAIG HUNTER!!!!
“Now we have this article by Travis. I see a pattern by Hunter.”
An article with unproven allegations against Craig Hunter constitutes a pattern?
Nowhere is their any proof that ties Craig Hunter to the harassment of this scumbag. Travis asks if Hunter is tied to it, but cannot definitively prove that he is.
We can however see a pattern of questionable ethics on the part of Bill Hunt. First Greggy Haidl then his drunk driving donor. God only knows how many others Hunt ran interference for.
Say “NO” to the P.I. and “YES” to a real law man and a respected professional. VOTE CRAIG HUNTER!!!
Sean. Carona had nothing on Hunt. If he had he would of IA’d Hunt in a heartbeat. Now here you are talking stale smack that was unproven then and over 5 years old. Be origional why doncha. I can see that it’s ok with you that Hunter beats the living daylights out of a restrained Mexican with a flashlight but not ok that a kid who didn’t own the pot wasn’t charged with possesion. Sorry. That’s just not rational. Like I said. Hunter has exhibited a pattern of violating the civil rights of citizens. Besides which Hunter has all of Carona’s comrades at his back. You know who they are.
