February 22, 2010 Source: OCSD Press release:
“Earlier this morning at about 10:55 am, an elderly female driver apparently confused the brake with the accelerator in her vehicle and she subsequently drove through the front entrance of the Michaels Arts & Crafts business located in the 25000 block of Marguerite Parkway. Her vehicle ended up approximately 20 feet inside the store and the collision caused some structural damage to the building. There was one person injured inside the store who was transported to the hospital with moderate injuries. The elderly driver was not injured. The city will be sending a building inspector to the site to determine if the building is structurally safe for occupancy. The collision is under investigation by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. “
This type of accident isn’t unusual, and near senior communities it is more likely a monster behemoth car from the 1980s.
it wasn’t at all a giant behemoth of a car, it was a new infinity G20, didn’t even have plates, or at least there was not one on the back. several employees were right up at the front where it happened, getting ready for a morning meeting. several employees sustained minor injuries. i was there immediately after. i could see the tire marks. it seemed like she was pulling in to the handicapped spot at an angle, then floored it. there’s a huge pillar that would have stopped her had she gone straight rather than a hard left. there is also a huge wall that would have stopped her if she had not steered left. thankfully there were no casualties. a week or more ago some other woman, yapping away on her flippin cell phone (idiot) drove up the curb in her behemoth of a vehicle at that same michaels right where people were standing and smoking. and she had her baby in the car.
Dude wait. Now that GM is government-owned we’re supposed to cheer the downfall of Toyota. They had it coming because they don’t use union labor. Or something. I think.
