I’m confused…I thought that a broad coalition of gay marriage-rights organizations had decided that the best strategy would be to regroup, raise money, re-strategize for a ballot initiative in 2012?
BAAAW HAAA HAAA HAAA HAAA!!!!
“How to piss of the voters even more” By special rights for homosexual activists.
…If you undertake this effort you will only dig a deeper hole for yourselves. The voters have spoken loudly across the nation – Keep your sexual preferences behind closed doors!
Deal with it!!!
Waste of money and time. If it ends up on the ballot it will lose again. Gay marriage consistently loses statewide votes, not only in CA but elsewhere.
#1, that’s true, but certain groups just can’t wait that long – such as my esteemed friends in the Courage Campaign. So I just hope we can pull it off this time and not suffer another dispiriting defeat.
#2 is the same person who commented recently under the name “Clean Sweep” that Santa Ana needs to get rid of the “infestation of illegal immigrants that is dragging them down into the sewer.” So he should be considered less than human and unworthy of response.
Although at first I thought it might be Crowley because of the bizarre characterization of the right to marry as a “special right for homosexual activists.” Maybe he stole that weird idea from Crowley.
If spending a bunch of dollars helps the California economy, go for it. And if it get even more voters to the polls to vote, that is great too.
post 3 is right it will keep losing . just like nobama health care THE PEOPLE DONT WANT IT AND YOU KEEP PUSHING IT .
Yep, Cook, this measure added to the pot legalization measure just may get a lot of young people to the polls, and that’s always good for the forces of progress!

“Young Americans show strong levels of support for tolerance and equality toward homosexuals, and majorities say gays and lesbians should be able to form legal civil unions and get legally married, according to a new national survey of 15-25 year olds. And young people overwhelmingly support equal protection when it comes to housing, employment, and hate crimes. By six-to-one margins, American youth support gay rights and protections related to housing, employment, and hate crimes and those sentiments are held by all ideological, partisan, racial, geographic, and religious groups. One out of two respondents said they know someone who is gay; knowing a gay person has a significant impact on attitudes.
“The breadth of overall support demonstrates that young adults are doing more than showing simple support for fairness and tolerance toward homosexuals,” according to a report on the survey issued by Lake Snell Perry, which conducted the survey. “For them, these values transcend the realm of gay issues and have become part of their larger view of the way America should look.
[…]
Contrary to conventional wisdom, African American and Latino youth are more supportive of extending equal protections to gays on housing, employment, and hate crimes than whites. And majorities of these young people, although less intense, support civil unions, marriage, and adoption.”
Although of course, the Grate One and commenters 2 & 3 are probably in their 60s or 70s.
Without taking sides on the issue, I want to point out that young voters do not tend to vote, older voters do. Most everyone who organizes campaigns knows this and strategizes accordingly.
True, and that’s why we’re discussing measures that might get them to the polls this time.
Actually, young voters turned out in very large numbers in 2008. It will indeed be a challenge to reach those levels in a mid-term election.
45 far left vern post 9 is right YOUNG PEOPLE DONT VOTE . all the mumbo jumbo you wrote on here . they can have civil unions most of the crap you wrote on here they can have so dont try and far left spin it . you have tried 3 times i belive to try and get this and THE PEOPLE RENEMBER THEM. Great One, Most Americans did’nt want a war in Iraq, but that got slammed up our A**.
The fact remains that most (read: populous, not voters)Californians don’t care. The Prop 8 was so badly mismanaged, at perhaps the best point in recent history to pass such a thing, that it forced this civil rights issue into a moral issue like abortion.
The maniacs on each side will continue to lob bombs. while Jesus Freaks raise Gay kids, and Gay kids visit their fundemental families.
We should be glad that the Great Ones, Rick Moores and Too funny’s kids get to drink at the same fountain as the other kids!
#13 kenlaysnotdead,
I have to disagree with you, most Americans DID want to attack Iraq. Just goes to show, with enough propaganda you can convince people to support all kinds of nonsense; George W. Bush, Iraq war, George W. Bush, Prop. 8, Sarah Palin, Teabaggin’……etc.etc.
Yeah, in March ’03, as the US began to invade Iraq, a few of us started a weekly anti-war protest across from Marina High School in HB. Seemed like most people would drive by, yell at us and call us Commies and terrorists. Occasionally someone would pull over for a second, and in a quiet frightened voice say they agreed with us, thank us… and then drive off quickly before anyone could see them talking to us.
A counter, pro-war protest immediately developed across the street, which quickly outnumbered us 4 to 1. They would yell and throw things at us, some of them would run across the street and try to take our signs, we nearly came to blows a few times. They would periodically yell “U-S-A! U-S-A!” and get kind of confused when we joined them in that chant.
It just went without saying for them that invading Iraq was both necessary for our security and appropriate revenge for 9/11. Their signs included “Nuke Iraq” and “Fuck Iraq” which were somewhat dissonant with their beloved leader Bush’s claim that we were freeing the Iraqi people from a tyrant.
One lady explained to us that we needed to overthrow Saddam because she “didn’t want to end up having to wear a veil.” Our heads swam as we considered where to start with that.
The best sign of all was “Kick ass for cheap gas!” At that time gas was under two bucks a gallon, I think $1.67. I wish I could find that person now.
At that time Bush’s approval rating was 70%, and every other car and house sported a flag; some cars four flags which quickly became dirty and ragged. It was depressing – you couldn’t fly a US flag yourself without looking like you backed Bush’s war.
We gave up on our protest after a few weeks. But a couple years later it started being cool to protest the war. And by then it was the opposite – most cars would honk, put their thumbs up and grin; and the rare pro-war person would drive by quickly, flip us off, and yell something stupid like “George Bush!” That’s pretty much all they could think of saying to express disagreement with those of us who opposed the pointless tragic war.
Americans sure can be stoopid sheep, especially in this Red County!
“Kick ass for cheap gas” That is absolutely classic, Vern. Just goes to show how profoundly naive, and wrong, the war hawks are.
And to bring this thread back around, Prop 8 passed not because most Californians hate gays, but because gullible voters were fed a bunch of lies that they unquestioningly believed (just like when they get marched off to war.) Among those:
1. Churches will be forced to hold gay weddings.
2. Your kindergarteners will be taught the fine points of fellatio and buggering.
3. Civil unions give the same rights & privileges as marriage anyway.
All lies fed to them by a coalition of religious fanatics who DO hate gays and cynical Republican operatives who used the issue to get these fanatic haters to the polls to also vote GOP. Managed to work in ’08 despite the Obama wave – partly because they also lied about Obama supporting Prop 8. Shouldn’t work forever, one would hope…
dont forget vern is more n likely like anoster one of these no blood for oil people , too many michael moore movies . and to show you vern i dont care they can drink from the same water fountain i drink at . i will sit with them do everything a normal person does and they can do what ever they want in their own bedrooms . but when they start forcing their way on us . that is when it stops .
The robocalls of 2004, over the weekend before election in Iowa were incredible. The message was clear: “Elect John Kerry and your kid will be learning about Gay Sex in the fourth grade”.
But, I digress, Back on topic. The prop 8 were out gunned and out classed by the Church Machine (Catholic and Mormon). These institutions understood the game and played to win.
A lot of folks right center, like to say that “morals” had to do with the result, when in fact it was classic politics.
As for The greatones comment about “forcing thier ways on us” I have to ask:
1) Force what????? Thats called Rape in America.
2)Who is US?
3)Besides, Nobody never needed an abortion from gay Sex, so there you go!
force what . they want to teach kids their is also a homosexual side too . books , papers showing men living together . small kids asking where is mom . 2 men on the wedding cake these are things they are FORCING ON US . ADAM AND EVE NOT ADAM AND STEVE .
