MORR Conference on Redevelopment Abuse

Municipal Officials for Redevelopment Reform (MORR) will hold it’s 14th Annual Southern California Conference on Redevelopment Abuse on Sat. May 1, 2010 at the Ontario Airport Marriott.

Our featured speakers include Scott Bullock, Senior Attorney of the Washington D.C. based Institute for Justice.

“Scott Bullock, senior attorney at the Institute for Justice, represented the plaintiffs, including Suzette Kelo, (and presented oral arguments) before the U.S. Supreme Court in the landmark eminent domain case Kelo vs. City of New London.”

Scott will be “speaking on the topic: “Five Years after Kelo.” Mr. Bullock will look at the status of eminent domain abuse nationally, as well as providing an update on the New London redevelopment boondoggle that seized Suzette Kelo’s home. Bullock is a nationally recognized expert on property rights from “America’s most effective champion of fairness and economic equality,” the Institute for Justice.

Also speaking at this event will be Chris Norby, California State Assembly, 72nd District:

Chris has moderated every MORR Conference since 1996 and edits “Redevelopment: The Unknown Government” book. With 25 years experience in local government as a Fullerton City Council Member and serving as an Orange County Supervisor, Assemblyman Norby has witnessed redevelopment abuse firsthand and will be a powerful voice for fairness and fiscal responsibility as he serves in the Legislature.

Philip Klein, award winning producer of the documentary film “Begging for Billionaires” the attack on property rights in America, will discuss government corruption, corporate welfare for the wealthy, and other boondoggles.

As Orange County co-director of the MORR “grass roots” partner, CURE, Californians United for Redevelopment Education, I will be discussing “new tools for 21st century activism.”

The program will include several local elected officials, and expert redevelopment attorneys sharing their experiences and views on eminent domain and redevelopment abuses.  Jean Heinl, Statewide co-director, CURE, will also be one of the presenters.

Date: Saturday, May 1st from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Location: The event is being held at the Ontario Airport Marriott off the I-10 freeway
