As if we didn’t have enough reasons to not vote for Bill Hunt, he appears in the video above, giving his support to the racist “Rule of Law” statute passed by the Costa Mesa City Council this week.
“This week’s resolution follows an April news conference in which Mayor Allan Mansoor called for stricter regulations to catch illegal immigrants living, working and driving in the city,” according to the L.A. Times.
It was a unanimous vote, according to the L.A. Times, but Council Woman Katrina Foley says she did not vote for this. Thanks Katrina!
According to Gustavo Arellano, Mansoor, whose parents were immigrants from Egypt and Sweden, has failed in his longstanding war against all things Mexican:
Actually, Mansoor’s campaign against illegals has cost the city much money than it has saved. The city spent tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars both defending against and pursuing an unsuccessful lawsuit against activist Coyotl Tezcatlipoca, all because Mansoor didn’t appreciate Coyotl’s defiance of Da Dum-Dum Mayor on the dais during a city council meeting. Mansoor tried closing down the Orange Coast College Swap Meet, a move that would’ve cost the city thousands in fees. And Mansoor rejected $40,000 in funds that a basketball league would’ve paid the city, all because the league had the word “Aztec” in it and mostly involved Mexis.
A group on Facebook is leading a boycott against Costa Mesa. Click here to check them out. Don’t spend your money at Costa Mesa businesses!!!
And don’t forget to donate to Phu Nguyen, who is running for the Democratic nomination in the 68th Assembly District. Click here to see his website. If Mansoor beats Long Pham, in the GOP primary, then Nguyen will be our only hope to stop Mansoor and prevent him from getting to Sacramento.
Mansoor’s stupidity against the b-ball league and soccer at the park shows that this is much more than “illegals” (it always is) F*ck Costa Migra! (Support the Raza there and support their businesses though!)
I agree gabriel, the boycott should not include businesses owned by Latinos.
Let’s stick it to South Coast Plaza, the Costa Mesa car dealers, etc.
oh selective boycott . lets boycott everyone who is against this law . we will call them law breakers supporters . and what part of illegal do you not understand . and for post one tienne papeles .
Gabriel,
What a complete Racist YOU ARE!
But since Art, agree’s, I suppose it’s LA RAZA thing!
Really Art, you are bitching and moaning about the Arizona law that MAY profile your RAZA, asking people to only support latino’s stores in Costa Mesa, is asking people to profile the people who own the stores!
I say leave the illegal immigrants alone, and cut off their Welfare. But we really, REALLy need to deport “chicanos studies morons”.
Send their racist asses back to their RAZA!
INSANE!
Good for the Mayor for standing up agains’t these whack jobs that are SO MEXICO!
Anyone who urges a selective boycott is a rampant hypocrite.
No Longer First Time Poster,
And anyone who supports the Mansoor Anti-Mexican law is a rampant racist.
OMG Art,
Mexican is not a race. So you might want to call us “selective”.
If it was a toss up of who I think has made the best impact on this society as hispanic’s, hands down it’s been the Cubans.
While I think hispanic from South of the Border have made the worst impact.
So I suppose you could call us “selective”!
Go Mansoor, get the crime and gangs out of your city!
MQ: I’m for Dr. King’s ‘beloved community.’ It is the anti-thesis of racism. In fact, as was had in Prince William County, Virginia, and as is already unfolding in Arizona, racists xenophobes will soon learn that this class of people they outwardly despise through repressive legislation are intertwined and essential to the economy. We are connected in our communities (Even Costa Migra whether your like/accept it or not) We ought to learn to live with one another without the hate. (too preachy for your kind I know!)
NLFTP: Nothing hypocritical about divesting and boycotting where the money talks in the city to apply the squeeze and on the other hand supporting local businesses like El Chinaco that are down for la causa. It’s more principled.
Wise Up!
What you are really spouting is, It’s ok to be a racist if you come from Mexico. I think you wasted way too much time in “chicano studies” I thought a class in women studies was a waste of time, thank GOD I need not need to take a stupid ethnics class!
Cost Mesa and most Americans are truly sick and tried of you moan bags bitching a moaning to get your way.
The American people are done with their schools becoming third world day care centers and their hospitals being used as a Doctors clinic.
I dont hate you, I just find you lot a pain in the ass!
By the way Doctor King fought for civil rights, you’re fighting for control of this country and its people!
It’s not going to happen. The stupid teacher in LA called us Frail White People. I am white, but I am absolutely not frail! This Country made up of all immigrants of all colors have had just about enough of South of the Border CRAP!
Whacko!
Sorry for the typos!
Art, anyone who suggests that Mexican or Latin businesses in CM not be boycotted but all others should be is ALSO a rampant racist.
Art does not like white people, thats ok!
We win so and we lose some!
Go ahead, stay out of the white businesses, and while your at it, keep the kids out of the schools. HOME SCHOOL!
Michelle,
I am white! But I am also a Latino. And I think that this new Mansoor law is racist towards my people.
And no, I see no reason to home school when we are paying taxes that fund the public schools.
But you bet that we will be boycotting businesses in Costa Mesa. If they don’t like it I suggest they let Mansoor know.
Well that does it! I am now spending all my money in Costa Mesa, the city that has a Mayor that will stand up to the criminals. Art, are you completely ignorant? The law is aimed at ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS of ALL Races, but of course you support breaking the law…don’t you? It seems Art your racism is VERY APPARENT.
Don,
There was a time when it was legal in this country to keep slaves. Later it was legal to mistreat people of color.
I assume you supported those laws too?
No longer first time poster,
No. The racists are the Mansoorites.
I see no reason to punish Latino businesses. Everyone else is fair game.
I have an idea lets stop going to businesses that seem to only hire Illegal immigrants!
My first choice: Whoa’s Fish Taco’s!
Have you ever wondered why it is all Mexicans serving you?
Do Asians, Whites, Blacks not apply at Whoa’s?
Or do this just hire for cheap labor. Maybe we need to call the local ICE office to investigate, or at least the Labor board!
OMG!
Art, you’re so called people, mistreat and kill themselves, we whites just give them jobs and listen to them bitch and moan!
Just as we are listen to you bitch and moan about YOUR RAZA!
I would never have a slave, especially not a Mexican Slave, I could not stand the nagging!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ag788uv7xJw
These are just people who come to work here, Yeah and they did not have the common decency to see if the people in the car they hit were ok.
Illegal immigrants may be poor, but they also can be real A holes!
MQ: I only took one Chicano Studies class, haha. It constituted a very small fraction of my overall higher education!
Nice little racist swipe here. Looks like you could have used a few more *humanities* courses:
“I would never have a slave, especially not a Mexican Slave, I could not stand the nagging!”
Stop hating my people and you might just come to enjoy our company. We’re aren’t going anywhere, anyway. Plus, I’m concerned about your blood pressure 😉
I will stick to the Cubans, they are more fun:)
“Nice little racist”
Thanks just trying to keep YOUR people happy, since US REDNECKS ALL HATE DEM YA KNOW!
I am not the one laying in the streets and prancing up and down. I like hiking for the fun!
My blood pressure at resting is 69!
Test your’s
🙂
Something tells me you don’t mean ‘afro-cubanos’ haha
“I am not the one laying in the streets”
and if by this you mean civil disobedience actions, i’m sorry if undocumented immigrants and their allies are down for nitty gritty democracy while tea baggers just mouth hate on misspelled signs!
Besides name calling and race baiting, I haven’t read anything, or any ideas from the “pro-illegal” crowd on exactly what reforms are needed?
Immigration reform? IS that the same thing as a wholesale movement of the USA boarder southward?
When you have 10 percent of a countries population escaping from repression (Social and economic) then would it be right to arms those refugee people and send then back to free their homeland?
Should the USA look at annexing more land to expand our boarders so these new freedom fighters can enjoy freedom too?
Let me offer for discussion “immigration reform” Ideas.
Annex the entire nation of Mexico, or Abandon the entire states of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada. Should there be a poll vote?
cook,
Another amnesty would be nice.
Scapegoating Mexicans is pointless. The turmoil in Mexico is our fault. Americans like to use illegal drugs. They are ruining Mexico in the process.
Art Pedroza wrote: ” I see no reason to punish Latino businesses. Everyone else is fair game.”
So… all Hispanic business owners are against the “Rule of Law City” declaration passed by the Costa Mesa City Council, and all other business owners support the declaration? Like to stereotype much?
Those who share your tribalist mentality and are incapable of rising above identity polictics are pathetic. If you think you are not advocating racism, you’re either clueless or a clown.
Dave,
The only racists in this equation are Mansoor and his goons.
And if you are looking for a clueless clown, look no further than Mansoor – or Bill Hunt.
cook: if the mexicans need liberating, it is from NAFTA – the primary neoliberal reform that has pushed the increase in immigration since 1994. Just ask the EZLN.
I’m half tempted to write in a dead guy…Hunter S. Thompson. Didn’t he try to run for sheriff of Woody Creek, CO years ago?
“Another amnesty would be nice. ”
Art, amnsty is not reform. And most likely not needed.
gabriel, you may be right on NAFTA.
Annexing Mexico would solve both those issues.
Hunter S. Thompson, who did better acting job, Murry or Depp
cook,
Oh yes it is. There are thousands of families whose children have been born here but the parents are not documented. Amnesty will allow them to join their fellow Americans once and for all.
It would be a huge boost to our national economy too.
I don’t support any more wars or any attempts to impose our government or our will on others.
“whose children have been born here “
Those children are US citizens already.
“parents are not documented”
That is a personal choice of the parents, if they DO NOT want to
become US citizens, why do you want to force then to?
(Amnesty is not a pro-choice kind of law)
“huge boost to our national economy “
They are already part of the economy, no change.
“I don’t support any more wars or any attempts to impose our government or our will on others.”
I did not say “(invade)” or “go to war”
Do you think there is a possibility of war? Wait a minute, Mexico is at
war, With the drug cartels, And if like you say it is the fault of the USA,
then that is a good reason to send in the Marines.
“impose our government or our will on others.”
You find fault with USA style freedom expanding southward (WTF)
But you want to encourage the repression, (Social and economic)
of (from) Mexico to expand northward into the USA. How do you justify
that imposition of the will of the Mexican government or Nationals on
the people of the USA? Is that not part of what is happening?
Still nothing on Immigration reform? What is the “REFORM”? Anybody
Oh please cook…sending in the marines into Mexico will solve nothing. Your arguments are as antiquated as Woodrow Wilson! In fact, the whole implementation of NAFTA in Mexico was the conquest of Mexico without the use of arms.
The drug cartels and Calderon’s stupid war is a whole ‘nother issue. Save that for another day.
And yes, dissolving NAFTA and offering amnesty would be two strong moves toward reform. It addresses the existing population in the United States and dries up the major economic impetus for migration. Don’t think that many undocumented immigrants preferred risking their savings and lives in the desert to not having felt compelled to do so. And once they are here, they want citizenship/resident alien status. Haven’t you seen the mega-marches in the major cities of the US?
Of course, since these are two pillars to actual reform, our two party dictatorship – subservient to the interests of NAFTA – can not possibly enact them! Bill Clinton passed NAFTA with robust Republican support. George W. Bush never once considered even tinkering with it. It’s a sacred cow of our corporate dominated political system. What we will have – if any traction gains – is a sad, compromised configuration that will favor so-called “security enforcement” measures i.e. militarization, coupled with a much less ambitious penalty-laden path to citizenship for a fraction of those currently living in the shadows. Republicans will howl at it for political posture. Democrats will act as if it was a fair treatment of the issue. All the while the root causes of immigration will remain intact!
gabriel,
NAFTA and Amnesty problems are both are solved with annexation of the Mexico.
The lives of a hundred million Mexicans would improve starting immediately and the expansion of the USA way (American way) would greatly expand the economy and most likely end the current depression.
A win – win option.
Unless you think the current system of non-resident slave type labor with forced amnesties every 2 decades or so works better for you (them).
cmon dont you people know art is for open borders reconquista toss out all the laws that are against mexicans or what he call immigrants , = cant tell the difference between illegal and regular immigrants in his world they are the same . another amnesty YEAH RIGHT . the last one worked . what is gonna stop another 10 mill from coming over . and he tosses race into every thing because i belive he has racist tendencies . anyone who is agianst the law or has anything to do with stopping ILLEGAL immigration is a racist .
If only Anglo settlers were this strident on immigration laws when they lived in Texas under the authority of the Mexican government! Historical amnesia!
Historical amnesia? I don’t think you have even a clue what you’re talking about. I would suggest you study the history of Texas and Mexico at the time of Mexican Independence from Spain. You might start with learning that Americans already owned a fair amount of Texas via a Spanish Land Grant before Mexico became a country, and they were already living there.
If I were you and didn’t want to make foolish comments in the future, I would learn about Stephen Austin and his dealings with the several government entities that existed in the early years of the existence of Mexico. Perhaps the fact that he was paid 65,000 acres by the Mexican government for each 200 families he could get to settle the land might help your understanding of the immigration laws at the time.
Another area you might study is the Mexican Constitution of 1824 and how Mexican States, including Coahuila y Tejas, functioned prior to the dictatorship imposed by the arguably psychopathic Santa Anna with the Siete Leyes in 1835 which led to the Texas Revolution.

Yeah, we just love guys like this!
And by difference in TEA PARTY people and Illegal Aliens. One has the RIGHT to protest and the Aliens don’t
MQ: i dare you to say something nice or post an article about an undocumented college student with mass potential to contribute to our society. I bet you can’t. it grinds your racism too much to do so!
Obviously, the ability of undocumented people to assemble and protest is being respected by enforcement agencies every may day (save for the may day melee in la years ago) perhaps tea baggers are just upset that despite blowhards like glenn beck sounding their alarm, they can’t even come close to matching the sizable crowds produced by immigrant rights marches.
being outclassed in democracy by a population without papers? best argument i’ve heard yet for amnesty!
senor chicano studies you mean that large crowd that showed up for the phil jackson protest . i think they left out a chapter in your reconqusta class . illegals who are not citizens , cant demand things that citizens have , i want my papers , i DEMAND A DRIVERS LICENSE , I DEMAND THE RIGHT TO VOTE .. = NO SE PUEDE .
This boycott idea is ridiculous and is a sword that can (and will) cut both ways. Just leave well enough alone before Santa Ana looks even worse than it already does.
Garbiel,
For once and for all MEXICAN is NOT a race!
I have nothing good to say about the Dream Act or the students who want it, because I think it is a ridiculous idea. Especially when the taxpayer has paid so much to educate foreign speaking kids!
You just are not getting the frustration level of the American people and of the immigrants such as I and TGO. I am fighting OUSD right now because they are closing schools that have mostly American Children of American Parents because they do not make money of these schools. Hispanics in the country (mostly from Mexico and Central America) have become a way to get federal dollars!
This is not about RACE, this is about the influx of the extreme poor who are used as a source of income for many! There is way too many and way too many of them are criminals. This is about safety, culture and expense!
The rape of that poor woman could have been avoided if the Feds where protecting their country instead of making it into a WELFARE HOLE!
This state alone holes 30% of the Welfare recipients. Who the hell do you think they are? Take a guess?
The tea party people are people who work and have children like myself that have not the ability to drop everything to go to a protest. I work my ass off to pay the taxes so that illegal Aliens can prance in the streets with their Mexican flags. Do you not think that this pisses ME off?
IF you are an illegal immigrant woman who has a child here in Orange County not only will your birth be paid for but also your child’s medical and dental etc…
My husband and I work our butts off to pay for our own kids and so do most American families. I could not go down to the local FRC and enroll my kids in Healthy Families, but I could if I was an illegal Immigrant. No documentation except a birth certificate is needed If you are an illegal immigrant. If you’re An American Citizen you will have to bring your bloody kitchen sink and most likely you will be denied because you have two cars etc…..You don’t think that pisses people off?
So most likely the Illegal Aliens were able to go protest, because they are not the one’s paying the bills!
The above is the best argument that I have for not giving Amnesty to Million’s of poor Mexican’s who have the cheek to demand what others’ cannot get!
The fact that thousands of illegal immigrants protested in the streets with even one Mexican flag is the last straw for people such as myself who is sick and tried of hard working Americans struggling to find a good school in their local area because it is flood with an OVER-SERVED population!
I want to when I have time to stop our local schools districts treating illegal immigrants like the citizen and treating their own citizens like the illegal immigrants.
I want to make sure CAL-WORKS uses the SAVE PROGRAM that was meant to protect the tax payer, but for some reason they will not use it.
I want Healthy kids program eliminated. I also want all the federal and state funding to stop going to corrupt Not-For profits that have figured out that ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS are a great source for income. I want to make Orange Country Healthy Families Commission stop using this program that was meant to create preschools and implement programs to decrease smoking mothers as an Engineered socialized disaster for illegal immigrants and their children.
This is not about race is about being sick and tried of paying for the poor of another country and watching neighborhood become the next TJ!
A couple of years ago Two young teenage girls where raped and their young males friends beaten to a pulp in Black Star canyon by Mexican Gang members from Orange. They and their families should have been deported but they where not, because the supervisors and their friends example… The Catholic Church and St. Josephs use the social justice bull shit to cloud the real truth.. Illegal poor + good for Business!
Yeah, we have just about had enough of the bitching a moaning at this point I who has always be a big supporter of guess worker programs etc…. am swaying to “bus them out!”.
I have become so sick and tried of listening to the ever voice of the” HISPANIC CAUSE”.
IN this country no one is above the law and Equal justice is the back bone of this country!
And you know what Americans are not obligated to like the Mexicans, just as the Irish don’t need to like the English. I tend to like the English because I don’t pay for their entitlements!
So there:P
http://www.ocregister.com/news/english-249849-students-percent.html
This article is a good example of what I am talking out!
“They do not reclassify the kids because they lose federal dollar’s”
undocumented immigrants put in more money into the system than they ever draw out of it. quit peddling your xenophobic lies and misplaced anger and frustration. I’m also so sick of this usage of cherry picked crime stories to insinuate that a majority of undocumented immigrants are violent criminals. give me a break.
and its truly an insult to say that tea baggers have jobs and kids and that’s why they can’t protest like undocumented immigrants. please! they work hard and have children, too.
it’s sad to read your pathetically long rant and all its blustering nonsense.
and your last part is really rich. you have your analogy all messed up! mexicans are the irish to the american’s english, not the other way around! LOL!
Corporations rape the taxpayer more than any other institution and walk all over the supposed ‘safety net’ programs which have been in rapid decay since the onset of neoliberal reforms. But keep picking on undocumented immigrants in your political cowardice and continue letting corporations step on your back all while you wave a yellow flag saying ‘don’t tread on me!’ HAHA
Then I suggest you stay out of Santa Ana, you will not get cherry picked crimes stories, you just might be the victim!
“It’s sad to read your pathetically long rant and all its blustering nonsense.”
Yeah, I am sure it”s breaking your heart, just as your heart I am sure is breaking for the woman who lost her two sons and her husband to an illegal Alien Gang Member! Do you want to take a guess where HE was from!
“and your last part is really rich. you have your analogy all messed up! mexicans are the irish to the american’s english, not the other way around! LOL!”
No, the Irish army are not walking British streets! The Brits are not really liked in Ireland much and of course the other way around! British and Irish relations have gotten much better since the plastic bullets stopped!
I think Americans would have a better appreciation for the Mexican’s if they stopped trying to export their poor citizens by the millions to be served here as the new American poor!
Safety Net programs are just another word for “Poor hispanics = federal money”.
If the feds would man the border the corps would be hiring American citizens instead of cheap Mexicans for South of the Border. And poor Mexicans cannot hire American Citizens but Corporations like myself do!
I don’t need a flag to say anything, I will say it myself!
I make sense and of course YOU do not!
As a hispanic ethnocentric whacko =it’s sad to read you’re pathetically long rant and all its blustering nonsense.
I would ask every Citizen in Orange Country to take a walk down to their local FRC and see who is being SERVED and who is NOT!
Keeping flying the Mexican flag, because I am not feeling the LOVE for Mexico right now, nor is many hard working American families who don’t get the freebees, even when they need it!
Have a lovely night!
“As a hispanic ethnocentric whacko =it’s sad to read you’re pathetically long rant and all its blustering nonsense.”
* My posts are actually quite brief compared to your last two! I must be hitting a nerve with you. Which is why I keep responding…to bring out your hatred and ignorance in full view.
“If the feds would man the border the corps would be hiring American citizens instead of cheap Mexicans for South of the Border.”
*Ha! ‘If only’ statements! This sentiment is not true. Again look what happened in Prince William County, Virginia three years ago. Sb1070-like legislation passed, the immigrants left, and the xenophobes came crying back for them since they evidently, didn’t take up all those new job availabilities!
Secondly, Ms. “Don’t Tread on Me,” there’s a reason why you ‘if only!’ It’s because corporations are the main benefactors of NAFTA. It’s because corporations exploit the division of ‘legal and illegal’ It’s because corporations cast their shadow over governance in this country, while misplaced ignorance exhibited by people like yourself scream ‘don’t tread on me’ at their behest!
Look at your statement! If only the feds would act, the corporations would respond! LOL! You got it all twisted!
Since anti-Mexican – and I’m sure you make no distinction – hatred such as this applauds Costa Migra’s stupid grandstanding, BOYCOTT! BOYCOTT! BOYCOTT! Another lesson in democracy is about to be served. Ever wonder why Tea Baggers never boycott? haha
Ever wonder why Tea Baggers never boycott? haha
Because they are not idiots, they do not want to hurt their own economy – their own people!
“My posts are actually quite brief compared to your last two! I must be hitting a nerve with you. Which is why I keep responding…to bring out your hatred and ignorance in full view.”
MQ says:
Your post’s are brief because you don’t have much to say on the subject, except the same old left wing rhetoric!
I do not like NAFTA, and I think that Mexican farmers are being screw by American Farmers. But that is up to the Mexican government to fix, not Americans Citizens!
Really you can go on and on all day about being Anti-Mexican. The truth is we don’t boo your beauty Queens here in the US. We have more class than that!
So how hates who, if we cant even send a young kids down to Mexico without being harassed!
I think the tea party people are exceptional because they are starting to change politics as usual with their shear determination!
Unlike you I as an immigrant support this country and its citizens, I am not too fond of Mexico because it treats its citizens like cattle!
Keep trying to bring out my hate, but know that I have no time for people who boo young girls at a beauty contest or throw plastic bottles at police protecting a citizen voicing his concerns!
“I do not like NAFTA, and I think that Mexican farmers are being screw by American Farmers. But that is up to the Mexican government to fix, not Americans Citizens!”
I’m going to ignore the majority of the insults levied in your latest rant and instead focus on this one sentence of convoluted logic. So, as an example, U.S. government subsidized corn exports are screwing the Mexican farmer, throwing him and his family off the land, and compelling immigration by any means necessary, but the “American citizen” has no role in fixing this situation? What civic laziness!
How did NAFTA get implemented? By the elected representatives of the US government in part. At least the Mexicans could say that the President in their country stole the election away from a progressive candidate by means of fraud so accepting the terms of NAFTA at the time was not an expression, in any way, of popular democratic will.
I believe, against much evidence to the contrary, that a common bridge can somehow be found. Xenophobia has existed as a means of division so that the ruling elite can continue in the work of perpetuating their dominance. Transcend that, retool the logic of discontent, and maybe, just maybe, a new way forward can be paved.
The immigration reform that you want is amnesty for people who come from a corrupt hole. We cannot take in people just because their government and their country has failed its citizens. This Country is not a welfare state for exports!
If this country needs cheap labor, then allow exchange of labor from all over this world!
Natural selection!
Art, Did the businesses of Costa Mesa even know that the city council was going to make that vote. Is it really fair to boycott the local businesses in the city because of a decision they may have had nothing to do with. I assume your reason to boycott the city is so the local government doesn’t get any tax money from these businesses so that would in your mind justify a boycott. So why would it be ok to just support the Latino businesses. What if many Latinos are employed by non-Latino businesses and they lose their jobs because of your boycott.
You are becoming unreasonable on this topic. I think you should stop blogging about it because you take it to close to home and cannot put a objective opinion together about it. All your posts are pretty racist against anyone thats not latino and you want to boycott and protest everyone.
Have you seen how many businesses have tanked because of the economy in Costa Mesa, they don’t need a boycott. They obviously have a problem but the council needs to figure out a better way to handle it.
Where are the insults?
“Mexicans could say that the President in their country stole the election away from a progressive candidate by means of fraud so accepting the terms of NAFTA at the time was not an expression, in any way, of popular democratic will.”
MQ says;
Yeah, you could say that Mexico’s corrupt government signed NAFTA and screwed over their people, but then again,”whats new”.
The bloody US government is becoming as corrupt as the Mexican government. The big difference is that TEA PARTY people – Average American folk are doing something about it. I don’t see Mexicans protesting in the streets of Mexico!
Instead they are protesting here!
Where the heck is the hero’s in Mexico!
Twenty-thousand people have been murdered in Mexico in the last couple of years due to drug wars. Don’t you think it might not be a good idea to import that here, as seen in AZ.
“common bridge can somehow be found”.
I fully support the Mexican people standing up for their OWN country, instead of asking the American people to do it!
ruling elite can continue in the work of perpetuating their dominance.
MQ says:
What you really mean, that you need more brown votes to over come the whites in this country!
Social Justice!
You lot are out of your friggin minds and your cause is the true face of Racism today!
The whites in this country are under attack for doing what the do best succeed!
You have the wrong ruling class, turn your head to Mexico!
Still nothing on what “reform” should be?
Amnesty is not reform.
The decent people who make a choice come to the USA, pay the price of admission. That is they pay the fees and costs to become residents and or citizens. These people do not need amnesty.
Amnesty main beneficiaries are the “criminal element” who are not allowed to immigrate to USA.
The “Gabriel” poster only complains about the USA and USA laws and that the USA is to blame for all wrongs in the country of Mexico. I bet that this Gabriel person has never even been to Mexico.
On “reform” I have changed my mind on the “Dream Act” that will give the children would grew up in the USA the ability to make the choice (choice to become US citizen) as children they were not allowed to make for themselves.
It is too bad that the education establishment is forbidden to ID these children in the schools so they can take the classes and get their US captainship with their high school diploma.
Ok, it seems like I’m dealing with folks who just want to make false assumptions and cracked logic. Starting with MQ:
‘I don’t see Mexicans protesting in the streets of Mexico! Instead they are protesting here!’
That is because ignorance blinds you. When Felipe Calderon claimed a suspicious victory in the last election, that’s when MILLIONS of supporters of AMLO took to the streets. As for NAFTA, the most poignant response was the emergence of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation in Chiapas. Compare that with the lazy response of those who felt George W. Bush pulled a quick one in the 2000 elections and the response to the passage of NAFTA by the US working class. The stakes are higher in Mexico, but the US populace responds with barely a whimper. They are too busy under the hypnosis of consumption to do much besides bitch and complain (and blame immigrants)
“You have the wrong ruling class, turn your head to Mexico!”
See, the thing is, you must believe that people like myself are apologists for Mexican governance. F*ck Felipe Calderon. The army commits human rights abuses, corruption has always been a problem, and too many neoliberals have taken the seats of power. The Mexican ruling class is complicit in the ‘nightmare of wandering’ to use a term from Subcomandante Marcos. You, however, have displayed a complete abnegation of responsibility for the US government and the citizens who elect it, even though in the balance of power, the US ruling elite was the most influential and stood the most to gain by implementing NAFTA.
And now onto cook:
“The “Gabriel” poster only complains about the USA and USA laws and that the USA is to blame for all wrongs in the country of Mexico. I bet that this Gabriel person has never even been to Mexico.”
Perhaps my focus is on the balance of power in this equation and the fact that I’m a citizen of the US and can more directly influence the discourse and political dynamics here more so than that of Mexico. And it’s shame you didn’t place money on your bet. I’ve been to Mexico. The borderlands have been a constant facet of my life and have traveled all the way down to DF in the course of my life. In my family history, we’ve probably inhabited these lands longer than those who vehemently gripe about the current immigration situation in the Southwest. My family traces roots here long before the US war of aggression that took the land. My grandfather was born in Texas in 1900. Many of my family members were born here only to migrate to Mexico!
If the proliferation of the drug war is to be brought into the conversation also, realize that it has exploded in the aftermath of NAFTA. Realize that Ciudad Juarez’s crescendo of violence can be charted from 1995-2010 (a set of years mostly consistent with NAFTA) Realize that the US government is the main source of consumption and arms. Realize that the US government sends more than a billion dollars to the Mexican army – historically non-existent – without any consideration of the human rights abuses they cause and their overall ineffectiveness in curtailing the cartel’s activities.
In the case of Juarez they do nothing to stem the rate of violence and actually contribute to the torture, rape and killings that go on. And for many people, the industrial wing of NAFTA brought poor paying slave wage jobs to the city for awhile before corporate factories abandoned setting up shop there to go to china . Faced with that situation many have gone into the underground economy of drugs.
Both the Obama and Calderon administrations think that both governments are doing a good enough job and oppose legalization of drugs. Sorry folks, I just call ’em like I see em
Did I not say the American Government has lost touch with the American people. Do you really think the American people want millions of their hard earned dollars going to the Dads Army!
I want drugs legalized, IT IS the only solution. The government should not be telling anyone what they can eat, smoke or freak in their own homes. People do not go around smoking pot in their cars, but many do after getting blocked from a bar!
“Faced with that situation many have gone into the underground economy of drugs”.
Now you’re talking!
As criminal and brutal the drug lords are they are just a product of the environment of Mexico. The Mexican government for too long has abandoned its people. Now a small fraction of the people have taken things into their own hands and gone into the criminal underground.
Obama is a union hack, and Calderon is too late!
Calderon knows his country is f&^%$# the only thing they have left is slaves to send back the money to Mexico!
If I had control I would dismantle NAFTA – let the free market work across all borders. May the best man win!
By the way:
“Just in time” give me heads up on NAFTA and the plight of farmers in Mexico.
You See even though I do not agree with her “social justice crap”.
I listen and learn and do my homework!
Remember that the farmers of today are not the little mum and pop places they used to be. They are very unionized corps and the unions have way more money than the Moms and pop farms of Mexico.
Take away the unions, you crush corruption and the unions ability to control all around them!
Unions have become just another Mafia that is legal!
