Democrats like to pretend they are pro-immigrant and pro-minority, but we know better. Certainly here in Orange County there are many Democrats who hate on Latinos and other minorities as much as their GOP counterparts do. And now there is further proof of this, at the national level.
The conservative website Human Events reported that Rep. Paul Kanjorski’s (D-Pa.) appeared to say during Wednesday’s financial reform conference committee meeting that the financial overhaul will help “average, good American people” — but not minorities or “the defective,” according to the Washington Post.
Here is what this Democratic Congressman said:
“We’re giving relief to people that I deal with in my office every day now unfortunately,” Kanjorski said. “But because of the longevity of this recession, these are people — and they’re not minorities and they’re not defective and they’re not all the things you’d like to insinuate that these programs are about — these are average, good American people.”
His staff claimed that Kanjorski was quoted out of context. Was he? Decide for yourself. Click here to watch the full video of his comments.
It should be noted that his GOP opponent, Hazleton, Pa., Mayor Lou Barletta, tried to rip Kanjorki for being a hater. Sure Lou. And you’re not? Give me a break…
Lame gotcha.
Vern,
I thought it was very lame for the guys’s GOP opponent to try to make hay of this statement.
That said, the Congressman could have chosen a better way to say what he had to say.
Sure he could have thought of a better way. This is postworthy? In Orange County California, it’s postworthy to point out some old Pennsylvania hack says something in a way that coulda been said better, and you headline it the way you did? It is grasping at straws, to try to show you hit both sides equally. When the unescapable fact is that Republicans are the biggest dicks hands down.
Vern,
I really cannot disagree with that. However, it is a stark reminder that Latinos cannot trust either party, although we should have less confidence in the GOP, in general.
