This is of course, like always, a modestly priced charity event for veterans groups. And Republicans, independents and anyone else is invited. That’s what OC Dems do on Flag Day.
If this is anything like previous years, the Republicans will have a $200-a-plate dinner with a celebrity speaker, money to go to the OC GOP. That’s what OC Republicans do on Flag Day. I remember in 2008 the speaker was Charlie Crist. Oh whoops! Not a Republican any more. Wasn’t “angry enough.” Oh well. Maybe this time they can get Rush or Dick Cheney.
Two civic awards will be given: the Consuelo Nieto Award recipient Mr. Phu Nguyen, community businessman and leader that has lived the American Dream. Phu Nguyen displays through his actions and leadership the traits of Dr. Nieto. With roots deep in Orange County, Phu came from humble beginnings, but has established himself as a successful and motivated businessman and community leader.
The Chauncey Alexander Award recipients are George and Louise Giacoppe. Our honorees have a long history of dedicated service to family, community, state and country. George and Louise have made significant contributions to the debate on many issues facing all Americans. George is a graduate of United States Military Academy at West Point. Education has always been an important part of George’s life demonstrated in part by his ten years as an elected member of his local school board. With help and encouragement from Louise, he started the annual Orange County Flag Day event we celebrate together today. In recent years George was the driving force behind focusing our event on honoring the contributions of the nation’s veterans. It is a proud day for O.C. Dems.
Will Joe Dovinh be there? After all, he IS a Democrat… I won’t hold my breath.
CJ, you referred to Phu as a motivated and successful businessman. Could you tell me exactly what he’s done/accomplished the last ten years in business?
