How’s your report card?

Your all fired!

Can someone explain why we punish our children when they come home with bad grades yet many adults continue as enablers when it relates to our elected officials?

In 103 days some of us will decide whether or not to reward those incompetents in Congress. All 435 seats in the House are in play along with one-third of the 100 Senate seats.
In the 2006 mid-term election the voter turnout in House races was 36.8 percent. Only 29.7 percent of registered voters participated in the Nov 2006 Senate races.

As such we ended up having over 100 million registered voters in our country who chose to stay home in the Nov. 2006 election. Perhaps we should mandate compulsory voting as found in Australia, Belgium and Brazil.

The latest Gallup polling, listed below, might explain some of the disenchantment we feel with our members of Congress. However, staying home enhances incumbents chance at reelection.

Gallup’s 2010 Confidence in Institutions poll finds Congress ranking dead last out of the 16 institutions rated this year. Eleven percent of Americans say they have a great deal or quite a lot of confidence in Congress, down from 17% in 2009 and a percentage point lower than the previous low for Congress, recorded in 2008.”
PS: While Gallup included newspapers in the above table they do not indicate if blogs are included in that category. As the Juice is independent of any major political party my sense is that our ranking would be higher than traditional print or broadcast media who operate out of fear of being scooped for jumping the gun as just happened in the case of Shirley Sherrod.

Mr. Gibbs. Trust but verify was overlooked by the White House.
On one hand some in the White House argue that FOX News is not a news source but Shirley is seen stating that her removal will be on the Glenn Beck program so we have to act immediately. Score one for Glenn who did not rush to judgment and praised her candor on his program. Even big Mr. Keith O. chastised the White House last night. It’s a beautiful day in America.

Closing comments. Unlike public schools where if you fail you are forced to repeat the class we must remove not reward those in Congress who have failed all Americans as confirmed by the Gallup polling data.
