Never Mind the Man Behind the Curtain

Tom Steyer, the Oz of No on 23, and the campaign’s major financial backer, has attacked Prop. 23 because the measure is backed by oil companies. Steyer charges that the oil companies are major contributors to air pollution in California and they are backing Prop. 23 to undermine new regulations. He, however is the great green savior, investing in clean technologies that will make him a mint.

But outside of California the man behind the curtain sings a different tune.

Steyer’s hedge fund firm, Farallon Capitol, invests in a company called Energy Partners, Ltd. This company is a natural gas and oil exploration and production company operating in New Orleans and the Gulf of Mexico. Now for a guy who claims that oil companies are trying to ruin California’s air and economy, he doesn’t seem too concerned about the air outside California – as long as his investments are making him money.

And at the end of the first quarter [of 2010], Farallon’s biggest holding had been Texas oil and gas company XTO Energy Inc, a stake worth $745 million at the time.

Voters are smart enough to pull back this curtain and see the fraud for what it is.
