Of the fourteen candidates running for Anaheim City Council only one is officially listed as “musician.” Dustin Apodaca of the soon to be broken up six-piece indie rockers Dusty Rhodes and the River Band is running a grassroots campaign to represent the city he has lived and grown up in all his life. A musician? For city council? Don’t take him seriously? Well, at least the 28-year old singer/keyboardist doesn’t have anything on his record like voting to return a known bigot back as a trustee of the Anaheim Union High School district!
You can learn a little more about his candidacy by reading my latest article in the OC Weekly’s Heard Mentality blog.:

“Can Dustin Apodaca go from River Band frontman to Anaheim City Councilman?”…… sure, if the young socialist gets elected.
Judging from the number of the comments on this article, no one cares. So he will get a percentage of the bingo votes that is for sure.
I’m just glad there’s an option of an outsider — which in Anaheim politics means you actually live in Anaheim proper and not the Hills.
Go figure.
Plus, if Prop 19 passes, cities and counties will have say over marijuana legalization policy. Most Anaheim politicians would do as the current crop did with dispensaries three years ago…Dustin is right about these career politicians being woefully out of touch.
