The new Harry Potter movie is going to be screened at midnight, this Thursday, in many Orange County theaters. But this might not go well for our young people.
The night of Thursday, Nov. 18 is a very good time to stay indoors, according to the OC Weekly.
Police departments will conduct what they’re calling the “largest-ever Orange County curfew sweeps.” Cops in nearly every city–Anaheim, Brea, Buena Park, Costa Mesa, Fullerton, Garden Grove, La Habra, La Palma, Los Alamitos, Newport Beach, Orange, Placentia, Santa Ana and Tustin–will be patrolling the streets in search of juveniles in public after curfew, which begins at 10 p.m. or 11 p.m., depending on the city, and ends at 5 a.m. the following day. The event, which has been publicized to the media, is part of an “ongoing County-wide gang prevention effort.”
I didn’t even know we had such laws on the books. It is not too late for these police departments to get a grip. I would imagine the Block of Orange won’t be too happy to see their teenage patrons carted off in chains!
Why don’t you cover the bed bugs?…… Pedroza
These laws have been wel established for sometime now. Further, The Block at Orange is actually the strongest enforcers of these laws. Although it is the hip and cool place to go amongst teens, it is also the least considered because security personel strictly enforce the ordinance there.
However, as a teen, I must agree nonetheless that this is a great law, as it reduces juvenile crime at night, and is a safety concern. Further, the law does offer exemption such as in a case of an emergency. Other than that, no teenager has credible business at 2 AM roaming the streets of Santa Ana, or any other city for that matter.
“no teenager has credible business at 2 AM roaming the streets of Santa Ana”……. Hmmmm
Like if there are no homeless teenagers.
Seriously?! You didn’t know 10 pm was curfew? It’s only been that since at least Richie and Fonzie were hanging out. What’s stupid about this is that cops sweep every night, or should be doing so, especially at The Block. This is just a way to keep kids from skipping school the next day which = lame. Just let kids enjoy the midnight show.
I guess Art advocates following the laws that he agrees with and not the laws he thinks are ill advised or stupid. That’s not America. If you disagree with laws or think they are stupid, get them changed. Otherwise, compliance should be expected. By the way, if any of these kids’ parents want them to participate they can accompany their kids to the movie mooting the curfew violation.
All I am saying Geoff is that it is really stupid for all these police departments to conduct a mega curfew sweep on the night that the Harry Potter movie is having a midnight screening.
Do cops not keep up with what is happening in the world? Are they all without a clue?
“Are they all without a clue?”……. Hmmmm
In the Mexico cops are sometimes without a head.
Why would you even announce a sweep in the first place.
First of all, gang bangers would not be caught dead at the screening of a Harry Potter movie. They would probably be shot by their own gang as a punishment. They have standards! Only those that work at the theatre selling drugs at the concession stand will be there! Secondly, arrested juveniles have to be taken to Juvenile Hall as to keep them seperate from the adult violators, which coincidentally, is across the street from the Block of Orange. Due to over-crowding, and severe staff layoffs due to budget cuts, they only take felony cases (muder, attempted murder, or for the protection of the minor). Last time I checked, curfew violations were not felonies and they would have no room to put all these violators. Any teens that are there with their parents, as it should be anyway at a midnight showing – right, need not worry.
A lot of the kids that would be at the theater for the midnight showing would be with parents. And then there are all the adults that would be there who are fans. This is what the midnight showing is for, not KIDS, on a school night.
Just a thought.
